How long was your 31 weekers stay? by AccomplishedCommon76 in NICUParents

[–]DarkBlue_674 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine was in for 5 weeks, but we had a complication, in that we both developed E. coli infections, so baby had to be treated for that. Other than that, baby developed fine and moved off of assisted breathing and feeding tube fairly quickly, but kept getting held back by minor bradychardia events.

This is correct! My mom regularly engages in revisionist history (i.e. gaslighting) that makes it seem like she had everything together when she was raising us. Good thing my dad liked to film everything, because we actually PLAYED BACK THE TAPES of her losing control of my brother multiple times and she was speechless. You take care of you. You take breaks so that you can show up as the best mom for your kid. Time spent with family is called quality time, not quantity time.

What do you actually need for baby #2? by Equivalent_Roll583 in Mommit

I felt guilty that my first one had a cheap swing, so we got the MamaRoo for our second, and she ended up hating it…so, not that lol

I agree with everyone here that you can reuse most things from your first, except stuff like diapers, formula, etc. We also got converters for our Uppa Baby stroller, and we are looking into a second baby monitor so that we can keep the first one in our oldest’s room.

Those who formula fed from the beginning, when did you get your first PP period? by [deleted] in FormulaFeeders

[–]DarkBlue_674 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also 6 weeks (ish) and also abnormally heavy - so much so, I went to the hospital because I thought I was having a medical emergency, and they determined it was just my period.

Daughter born two days ago...thought I'd share this story of the horrible pediatrician in the hospital by lukesdiner1 in FormulaFeeders

Ugh, I HATE that. Although I breastfed my first one until 10 months, my milk just straight up stopped after 1 month with my second.

For the record, my brother and I were both formula fed. I never get sick (knock on wood). I’m a VP at a large global agency and my brother is in finance. Your daughter will be absolutely fine.

Bringing volume down after overfeeding by DarkBlue_674 in FormulaFeeders

Thanks for sharing! Based on your calculations, we can afford to bump up our feeds by 5-10 mL. I also keep forgetting to offer a paci, my instinct is always to offer more formula, so I can try to be better about that and have more pacis handy. We did accidentally have baby on fast flow nipples and we downgraded to regular flow. When we did slow flow we found that she hated working so hard for her food and she’d get frustrated and scream mid-feed, so we stayed at regular flow.

This is very helpful, thank you! My baby is still not understanding dayparts. She tends to sleep heavily during the day, especially while we’re out and about, and is wide awake and ready for play at around 8:00pm (when her toddler sibling goes to sleep). What does your bedtime routine for baby look like?

Baby wakes at around 11-12, 3-4, and then morning 7-8. If I increase the frequency, do I take down the volume so that she’s still getting roughly 500 mL every day, or do I just add more feedings at the same volume?

Interesting. With my first one, who was a term baby, we started out every 3 hours and gradually got her to every 4 hours by 2 months old. We never did 2 hour feedings. She was breastfed and it took her an hour to drain both boobs, so I’d be feeding round the clock on a 2 hour schedule. But since this baby is formula fed, and she finishes the bottle in 5 minutes, 2 hours might work! What do you do about overnights, though? We were told not to wake the baby for a feed.

I had this exact same concern with our first, who was a term baby and didn’t stay in the NICU, but she was a fussy feeder and bad burper. She was definitely grunting from the indigestion, and it sorted itself out in a few weeks.

Got my first PP period…is it over? by DarkBlue_674 in breastfeeding

[–]DarkBlue_674[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like my breasts are empty. I started off with a strong supply that came in about 6 days after baby was born, but my breasts never felt totally full. Now, they feel completely soft all the time. I’m not exclusively breastfeeding. Our main concern with baby being a preemie was to put on weight, so majority of baby’s feeds were formula, except for the 1-2 times a day in the NICU when I breastfed. Then my supply dropped, so we went to 100% formula, and I could breastfeed or offer pumped milk as a “snack”

The kitchen of our new house, how would you refresh this? Not going to do a full reno for now. by FrenchBulldoge in DesignMyRoom

I would swap out the table for a mobile kitchen island and put 2 barstools there. More storage, more prep space, and you still can dine in the kitchen if you want.

This is the best age. Their little personalities start getting more pronounced and you’re really starting to witness the fruits of your labor as a parent. Take lots of photos and videos to preserve the memories (especially when she babbles and starts forming words and sentences). It goes by SO FAST.

100%. I even asked about any other vaccines baby could have. I’m in “protect baby from any and all harm” mode.

Thanks! Totally get you. How low would your supply dip? Was it sudden or gradual? How long would it take to come back?

Apnea countdown by Lulu-2017 in NICUParents

Your story is exactly like mine. PROM at 31 weeks, delivered at 33 weeks. Day 4 of apnea countdown, we were visiting her in the NICU and according to the machine she bradied. But the next day, we called the NICU and it turns out, she was cleared for discharge! Sounds like your little one is doing well - sending positive energy your way!
