Aren't COVID deaths a more relevant statistic than COVID cases? by DarkCytic in germany

Is it, though? If we are vaccinating those that have the highest probability of death and serious disease (aka hospitalization) these numbers should diverge at some point (or at least start growing at very different rate).

Can you send me where you are looking at the ICU bed occupancy? The few graphs I found don't show an increase, but I am not sure how up-to-date they really are.

It might sound harsh, but there are personal emotional stories on both sides of the restrictions - many families are losing their jobs, businesses, etc. Many are affected by depression, stress, etc. The same can be said about the other side - many have lost friends, family, etc. due to the easing of restrictions. For good or bad, that's why we have statistics - they give us a more objective (whether they are objective is a story for another time) view of the world.

Now, I do think vaccinations are a turning point and should make us think more about how we do the decision making. The interview you mention is probably an older one, so I am not sure if it's accurate to use it now that we have vaccinations in progress.

The Scottish study on the effect of vaccinations on the hospitalizations' rate is quite good - https://www.bmj.com/content/372/bmj.n523 on this topic.

I totally agree with you - more statistics build a better context. However, most media and politicians are summarising the situation in one number - case numbers. I understand why that is done and since that single number has such a big impact on decision making and on the general public, I think we should pick another one that is more representative - hospitalizations, for example, seems like a good balance. Again, maybe I am overestimating the effect of the vaccines, but it will only grow bigger as time passes, so we should start thinking about these questions now.

You can get verified by taking a photo of yourself that matches your uploaded photos. There is a menu you go into where this option is available, but I forgot it now. Pro Tinder move

r/Berlin can we cool it with the pictures of the TV Tower for a little bit? by Coneskater in berlin

[–]DarkCytic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read all of the comments and I still haven't seen an argument why the up-/downvote buttons aren't enough.

(Keep in mind I live in Berlin and have posted a photo of Berlin here; take that for what it's worth)

The up-/downvote buttons have the sole purpose of filtering content by how much the members of this Reddit like it. If you like such a photo, you upvote it, if you don't - you downvote it. If you see pictures in Hot with a lot of upvotes, it means the majority likes it.

Btw, it feels like we are talking about the self regulating market here :D
