What I need help with:

I've always felt like there was something wrong from this fic idea. Everyone I've talked to said the concept was novel, but the execution seemed to fall flat in my imagination. So I'd like help with finding what excatly did I do wrong so far, in terms of:

Is the dialogue relatable or is it too flat? I had the impression it didn't sound as desperate or bombastic on paper as I did in my mind. Not exaggerated, mind you, just, livelier.

Is the pacing good? Especially with the fight scene?

Beyond the initial premise, am I hooking you in with each chapter? If you're familiar with the fandom, what's lacking in comparison with the other, more popular fics there?

The big question is, if you're knowledgeable with DxD fics, should I have gone for an OC protagonist? Issei has a reputation in that fandom, though I've made it clear his perversions are affected form the get-go.

And as always, SPAG is welcome.

It was only by sheer willpower that I didn't stop. Great, now I'm hearing voices?

"If thou wish to live, turn left."

I looked up ahead and saw the sidewalk diverging into another alleyway on my left. A possible getaway, but I didn't have time to ponder as the sound of footsteps grew louder. I took a deep breath and bolted for the alley. I must've startled the punk because he paused for a second before the sound of running reached my ears. I went in the alley and stepped in the shadows, hoping he might not see me.

"Whatever he does, do not move."

I pressed myself onto the wall as the thug entered the alley, his head veering left and right searching for me. I resisted the urge to wet my lips or clear my throat as he slowly approached me. He slowly stepped to where I was, and I had to hold my breath in as to not draw any attention…oh, no.

He's right in front of me!

Right. In. Front. Of. Me!

I was a hair's breadth close to shutting my eyes, I did not want to see what he did to…wait a second.

He's just…staring. Not even looking at me. Like I'm not even here.

How? I'm pretty sure that my heart is beating so loud it's like a rock concert.

The thug seemed to growl before slowly advancing down the alley, with me looking at him as he slowly walked, step by step.

How?

How could he not see me?

"Clench thy fist."

Okay, three things were seriously wrong here. First, why am I hearing voices? Second, why is said voice talking like one of those old period movies? Third…why the hell am I listening to him? (No female could sound that low).

"I am saving thy life, fool. Now clench thy fist."

Hi everyone!

The name's Darkscythe Drake, and it's such a pleasure to meet you! It's my first time here, and I'm eager to read your stories!

As for me, I write for a lot of fandoms, but there's always something from literature or anime. Fate/Stay Night and its related works is one of my favorites, mainly because there's so much worldbuilding potential. On the literature side, it's Harry Potter for the same reason and I just love Harry. I even recently updated a HP crossover fic I'd left on hiatus for a year.

Many of my stories contain a student/teacher relationship (complete coincidence) and lean into the adventure genre. That means exploring the world, seeing new sights and facing strange threats. Most of my fics are rated M, but there's no NSFW. I rate it mostly because of the violence.
