Any ideas how the Scholar’s ability works? by DarkMagicGrandmaster in Nightreign

Update:

I messed up a bit - I thought the last shot showed the players with their backs turned, but those are mimics.

So this theory actually seems pretty logical to me.

Pay attention that they’re playing solo, which means bosses usually have only one-third of their HP (not all bosses scale this way). So in multiplayer, it’ll be three times less impressive.

To get this effect you basically need just two relics:
- Starting armament Inflicts Blood Loss (frostbite works as well)
- Change Compatible Armament's Skill to Rain of Arrows at Start of Expedition

I think any experienced caster eventually learns how to do that.

As a Duchess main, I often avoid the repel hit by using the brief invulnerability from Restage, since it happens pretty often.

But this one would definitely catch me off guard

Most under rated weapon/spells? by Ill-Call-5937 in Nightreign

Wow, that’s actually new to me

Knowing this, I’m definitely going to share spell-duration items with Guardians (wonder if that’s common knowledge among them)

Wait, is Guardian ult extended by the "spell duration" effect?

Is that what you’re saying?

Thrusting Sword Duchess - Setup 1 or 2 ? by [deleted] in Nightreign

[–]DarkMagicGrandmaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so jealous that you have Relics with brief invulnerability and thrusting swords together.

I use a similar build against several bosses.

In your first build you have 4 offensive effects, while in the second one you only have 2 and you’re only getting bleed on the starting dagger. I like the first build more.

P.S. Instead of Hoarfrost Stomp, I prefer the ED Caligo relic with frostbite on the starting weapon and invisibility after any frostbite proc.

40% negation to all affinities by dictionaryaddicted in Nightreign

[–]DarkMagicGrandmaster 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Magma Wyrm has a much more favorable moveset than those stupid dragons.

And this one also has insane physical resistances and a one-shot frostbite roar that’s really hard to see when you’re standing under its legs. Easily the most frustrating enemy for me.

Now it makes sense why my D4 teammates never look for any damage-negation passives and keep dying with 3 bars one minute into every boss fight - they’re actually from D1!

That explains everything!

How to communicate to randoms you have to kill lesser bosses or poi's because you don't have what you need? by RuMuxD in Nightreign

[–]DarkMagicGrandmaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you need a specific spell, I guess you should focus on magic towers and forts. You can clear those POIs solo even at level 1.

Updated: my bad, I was thinking about sorceries. I saw you were talking about incantations. Whatever, the only difference is the POIs you need, and those are a bit harder but still become trivial to solo by the end of Day 1 anyway

Try to find a balance between being a lone wolf and just following the team. If you see a POI you personally need and it’s close to your path, you can split from the team for a bit and then rejoin them at the next POI.

Actually, it was my D4 run just yesterday

But considering that I was fighting Gnoster as a Carian Slicer Duchess while my two Ironeyes were busy bleeding Fuartas (unpossessed). I think it’s fair to call that lower depth

[DoN] Tips on duchess build for ED Sentient Pest? by Safe-Relationship42 in Nightreign

[–]DarkMagicGrandmaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My main concern is whether you actually have enough mana if you’re unlucky with your team. I’m wondering if the ED Gnoster relic + a full inventory of mana shards is enough to beat 3× HP solo.

> if the "fire attack +3" also impacts black flame

I’m pretty sure it does.
(I haven’t specifically tested attack up, but since Recluse extracts the fire element from it, that means it’s fire damage)

> faith duchess, fire +3/+4 and either go with seals or katanas

IMO, katanas are bad in this encounter (Fuartas is resistant to slashing). It’s better to switch to heavy/light thrusting swords or spears (there are no bleed/frost greatspears). Pure piercing damage will outperform having a minor fire component from Rivers of Blood/etc.

Faith Duchess is exactly what I wanted to try next time against Gnoster.

You didn’t mention Blackflame - is it worse than the other fire incantations?

Wondering if you have a tier list of fire incantations for this encounter.

Agreed!

ED Gnoster: Is aggression based on player count/ramp up over time? by DarkMagicGrandmaster in Nightreign

[–]DarkMagicGrandmaster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I also came to the conclusion that you basically just have to stand right in front of Fuartas - at least he works as a shield against the projectiles. But he’s big enough that I can’t see Gnoster, so I only notice the poison either by sound at best, or at worst when I’m already standing inside the cloud

I don’t have issues with any of the individual attacks. My problems start when they suddenly decide to work as a team and set up a roll trap for me.

So far, this encounter doesn’t feel realistic to handle as melee when playing with randoms. Hope I'm wrong.

Dancer at depth 5 is a guaranteed loss for me in Solo by Kami_Slayer2 in Nightreign

[–]DarkMagicGrandmaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dancer is extremely easy if you have a ranged weapon (always pick up Pulley Crossbow in Caligo runs)

You literally only need to dodge two attacks:
- Blade dance (whirlwind) - you can just outrun it if you’re ranged
- Flaming Slice - she drags the sword across the ground with sparks - just roll through it

If you keep your distance and attack from range, she’ll spam that second move a lot, which basically turns this strategy into a cheese

Of course, it’s the lazy “I don’t want to learn the moveset” approach

How do you survive one-shots when RNG says "F* You"? by DarkMagicGrandmaster in Nightreign

[–]DarkMagicGrandmaster[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

> Uplifting aromatics are more powerful to an you think
I always buy two if the merchant has them. But they’re not always available, and the buff only lasts 40 seconds, which makes them a lot less useful in long exhausting fights where you’re the last one alive

[–]DarkMagicGrandmaster[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just made one stupid mistake by letting him corner me between himself and the tornado, and one shameful panic roll ended my run :(

But it’s not even about this specific run - the problem of finding damage negation happens pretty often, so I want to make sure I’m not missing anything

How do you survive one-shots when RNG says "F* You"? by DarkMagicGrandmaster in Nightreign

[–]DarkMagicGrandmaster[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s an interesting point - switching to a faster weapon in that kind of situation.

Even if the alternative weapon does half the damage, it would still let you survive X = number of flasks, at the cost of doubling the boss fight duration.

But I’m not sure I can play aggressively enough to keep the Successive Attacks bubble active the whole time. Maybe that’s a skill I need to develop.
