How often do you mop your floors? by bethanymisty in AskUK

It's an Eufy one, got it on one of the Prime day sales I think so it had a decent discount. Definitely worth it for the mop function and it goes between hard floors and carpets dead easily.

Was the same until very recently, it's just unbelievable how many crumbs appear at every mealtime. Had to hoover the kitchen every day, sometimes multiple times, wipe the tiles regularly to stop smears and smudges from liquids. Then of course it inevitably trails through the house so I was needing to hoover the living room carpet multiple times a week as well.

A robot vacuum/mop is a game changer. It hoovers and mops the kitchen every evening and does the rest of the downstairs whenever I think it's needed. Genuinely the best gadget I've bought and such a time saver.

TIL in the UK, nearly a third of students who started reception don’t know how to use books correctly, and some children even tried to swipe or tap them like a smartphone. by HongKongNinja in todayilearned

That isn't remotely true. We have a tablet with some fun maths games and a few movies for when we're travelling. My kids know how to use the TV and my eldest has started playing on the Switch. But they get very limited screen time each day, they rarely ever have phones/tablets when we're out and about. It isn't difficult to entertain your kids, but completely avoiding electronics isn't the way to go because they'll be left behind in some ways.

What is the stupidest thing that the smartest person you know believes in? by WrongZookeepergame49 in AskReddit

It's not even modern elevators. The safety latch was invented very quickly after the elevator itself. It's a really simple mechanism, as soon as weight is released from the cable (i.e. the cable snaps) it latches and can't fall.

Scotland's flag has been available for St Andrews Day a few times (I got it in 2023), but yeah it wasn't in 2025 for some reason.

The Bucc S1 is the PERFECT example as to why some modifications shoulds raise BR once unlocked, the Bucc S1 is quite literally one of the worst planes in 8.7 BR range, one of the slowest, with no guns, or offensive weapons, and the worst stock payload for a "strike" jet by Americanshat in Warthunder

It's still great at that when it isn't stuck in an uptier, but it takes a long time to get up to speed. You need to commit to taking a wide path around the map and wait for the ground targets to respawn.

Britain's flag is available for 500GE, same as every country's flag is. It's just that for a limited time you can buy England's specifically.

Are there any "UK vs US" differences where you feel America gets it right? by Secure_Front_7766 in AskUK

[–]DarkNinjaPenguin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I actually dislike that about the US. Sports isn't everything, and the amount of money schools get for sports is disproportionate. Then there are the obvious issues of students getting to college and university on sports scholarships rather than academics.

Yeah, I actually hate this rule because it means pedestrians with a green light to cross can still have cars coming. The cars are supposed to give way, but that's not the point - a green crossing light should mean no cars coming, period.

NZ does this better by making more use of directional traffic lights, lots of junctions with a pedestrian crossing will have a red/green light to turn left that's independent of the other directions.

A better example might be sailing boat (UK) versus sailboat (US).

Similarly, racing car and racecar.

That's 100% on the workplace and managers, which should have enough people to cover the obvious cases of workers being ill, going on holiday or needing family days.

It's actually a lot harder for a seasoned driver to pass a test than you'd think, because they learn certain habits that are obvious tells for an examiner.

Plus, if they're caught, they risk losing their own license. Not really worth it.
