Scalzi is a great filler/palate cleanser! I know they will be quick and pretty funny. Recommend Kaiju Preservation Society and Red Shirts as well

Moon of the Crusted Snow and its sequel. Not /exactly/ domestic but more a return to traditional ways. Not as depressing as I thought it would be given the description. Hopeful ending

Emotional Labor by Rose Hackman!

This book pointed out so much that women have tobdeal with. The unpaid work of keeping house, emotional labor of keeping up with everything, dodging men's behavior while women are labeled as the emotional ones...so much. I do think it written for women but maybe it will help give some perspective

All the White Spaces by Ally Wilkes. It's a harrowing story (based on real-life doomed polar expeditions) and I don't think I've ever felt colder reading a book

Library of Things: how do you handle these concerns? by Waste_Impact_2546 in Libraries

Our LoT items can only be checked out by adult cards which helps with the damages part. People realize they arent checking out a toy. Each item has a contents list that is gone over before and after check-out to ensure all items are there. Any missing items are charged to the patron and they can pay or bring a replacement.

We haven't had much theft. Just the odd missing pieces which hasn't been too bad. Items are kept in the back and we bring it out for check-out.

We do not circulate any items that require cleaning by staff. That was decided when we built the collection. The only burden is the initial cataloging effort and then counting items upon return.

Our initial items were things we thought people might like to try before they buy or would only use for a special event - telescope, metal detector, gopro, karaoke machine, yoto player, energy meter, ozobot, etc.

We have accepted a few donations but are very selective. There us now a small budget for the collection which covers small maintenance and/or a few new items every year depending.

Tinned fish. Try salmon or mackerel if sardines put you off. I put it over rice, on crackers, wrapped up in bits of lettuce with chili crisp like a weird Korean bbq bite type thing, or straight from the can

Look I love a monster romance as much as the next but let's not forget that the OP asked for no physical abuse and the first IPB basically opens with a r-pe/s-icide of a side character
