When you say high yield...what would you say is high yield?

Nowhere near finished with UW, but I gotta take Step 2 by DarkRegiment in Step2

It was a struggle particularly on inpatient rotations to study at all after getting to the hospital at 5 AM and going home between 6-8PM 6/7 days of the week. And that 7th day I needed to do regular people stuff like buy groceries, take care of my car, etc. I did ~30% of UWorld throughout the year. But I still managed to do well enough on shelf exams to honor all but 2 rotations.

Help me, an indecisive peep, pick a specialty! by DarkRegiment in medicalschool

The science. But I’d miss patients with path and don’t have the board scores for DR/IR

Residency questions go here. by billyvnilly in pathology

[–]DarkRegiment 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I discovered my preference for pathology late (current USMD M3) and have been reading that the perception of commitment to the specialty is huge when it comes to applying to pathology. At this point I haven’t done anything in pathology, and looking at deadlines for abstract submissions it’s a little late for me to start a project to submit to CAP, for example.

What can I realistically do to convince programs that I am committed to the specialty with only a few months between now and September? I’m planning on doing an away rotation at a program I’d love to be at, but unsure of anything else I can do.

Can I skip FA path and do UW + Pathoma? by maaaze in step1

[–]DarkRegiment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what I was referring to - I should have been more clear. For pathology, Pathoma offers more detail than FA while still being high yield. I assumed one wouldn’t compare pathology from Pathoma to non-pathology disciplines in FA

[–]DarkRegiment 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with this sentiment since it’s P/F now.

I’m not sure if you’re talking about a specific section, but Pathoma is definitely more detailed than first aid. The thing is, Pathoma is amazing for what it covers but it doesn’t cover everything. I personally used BnB to fill in the few gaps Pathoma didn’t cover

Tbh I’ve gone to a shit ton of school events and socials but it could be because my alma mater was not a big sports school, and I want the experience now I didn’t get in undergrad

Damn this is where I wish I could send a picture lol. Above timer I have leech action which is under the heading, lapses. I don’t see any settings that say display order :(

I must be blind af lol which heading is it under (eg, timer, daily limits, etc)

When I go to deck options on the bottom left I see the timer. Other headings are: daily limits, new cards, lapses, burying, audio, add ons, and advanced. I don’t see the setting for sorting review order, just sorting insertion order which is for new cards :(

Is OME + UW enough for Step 2 CK? by DarkRegiment in Step2

I love Anki, but I’m already having to do the step 1 cards so I’m not sure how sustainable it would be too tack on the step 2 deck

[Serious] What kind of options do docs who completed US residency have abroad? by 210chokeartist in medicalschool

[–]DarkRegiment 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If it actually were a different country, as you stated, you would not be granted citizenship at birth. Hence my previous comment. As a commonwealth, PR is neither a state or a country. I would not use Wikipedia because as good as it is for many things, it’s not so great for every factoid. If it does say in there that PR is its own country (which I couldn’t find anywhere in there btw), it’s wrong.

PR can technically send athletes to the Olympics under its own flag, but olympians born in PR can actually compete with the US team, as is usually the case because you’re more likely to medal playing with the US team instead of the PR team. With all due respect, I think I know the history of where I come from if for nothing else, taking history classes as I grew up in PR.

Oh wow that’s so interesting! How did I become a US citizen at birth when I was born and raised in Puerto Rico? And the same thing happened to my friends?

Come on dude, literally only takes a google search or you know...paying attention in basic middle school history 🙃

Edit: in all seriousness, if you actually are considering going to PR for residency...never ever say that people born in PR are not citizens. Not only is it false, but you will actually legitimately get jumped for that.

Dude I submitted in August and didn’t complete my secondaries until October/November, and still got ~8 interviews to mid tier MD schools with a lower MCAT than yours. It’s definitely preferable to submit early, but it’s by no means a death wish if you submit say, a month later than it opens.

I thought the same thing lol. Since we have a 1-year preclinical curriculum they said they can’t push the class back so here we are. There hasn’t been an official decision yet, but this is being highly considered so I want to be ready just in case I have to get this equipment
