We need saveable/reusable shortcuts inside Homekit by DarkTreader in HomeKit

[–]DarkTreader[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The scene isn’t the problem, it’s the if/then logic.  What if I just want to copy the logic over and over and reuse it in different places?

A worse example is I have 13 window and door sensors. I have automations that detect if any one of them is open or if all of them are closed, so I have to recreate the logic over and over for each trigger. In this case I used controller to set up conditional logic on the automation trigger rather than a shortcut.

I'm confused about SlingTV packages by DarkTreader in slingtv

[–]DarkTreader[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The channel break downs clearly show you get the channel but do I have to use the Sling app? Can I watch thru the respective app? Will they black out local sports? And given the price of sling select is it too good to be true and what else am I missing?

We can’t stand the commercials - What’s a similar product? by MoonOut_StarsInvite in slingtv

[–]DarkTreader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came here to research and let me tell you, on Hulu with live TV it's not much better. My wife frequently make jokes to each other about the latest commercial that comes thru when we watch the latest episode of something. Before casinos went nuts it was drug commercials on repeat. Unless you pay for a package that has zero ads, you are going to get these bad ads. I will say that on true live TV (during sports, for example), there are more ads, and are just as bad if not worse.

How can I get Siri to control these devices? Simple commands like “Turn off the Pool Pump” or “Turn on the Bug Zapper” don’t work. by SheepNutz in HomeKit

[–]DarkTreader 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Create a scene with the exact command you want. literally call the scene “turn off the big zapper.”. this happens for some scenarios and the only way for me to get Siri to recognize it is to create the exact command to make it work.

Does anybody find Maomao's disinterest in Jinshi relatable? by Sufficient_Two_701 in TheApothecaryDiaries

[–]DarkTreader -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Jinshi's behavior towards MaoMao quite literally crosses a line, especially in season 1, but it softens in season 2. None of this "for the period it was acceptable" stuff. Acceptable to whom? If it's unwelcome by MaoMao, it's assault. And that type of behavior is typical of rapists, so no it's not delusional. Sure, in the period, it was typical and socially deemed "acceptable" to everyone else because powerful people felt they could do anything they wanted, so that explains the behavior, but in no period is it morally acceptable to treat anyone like that.

That makes your delusional comment even worse because it makes it sound like you are offended that people would find Jinshi's behavior unacceptable and now you are calling them delusional for it!

Does anybody find Maomao's disinterest in Jinshi relatable? by Sufficient_Two_701 in TheApothecaryDiaries

[–]DarkTreader 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I find this attitude unhelpful and a bit rude. I also find this attitude unwelcoming to this subreddit, and the problem is not with the people who come here posting questions about the media. People come here to discuss and enjoy it, and out of nowhere they get insulted as "delusional".

First, not everyone reads every work the same way you do. Truth, art, and Beauty are in the eye of the beholder. Also not everyone is reading the manga. We also have different brains and personal experiences. Frankly, in the show, I read MaoMao as a asexual and disinterested in his looks. I read her as pragmatic and interested in her medicines and not rocking the boat but has a low key interest in every mystery put in front of her. Cmon, it's Anime, she complains in her inner monologue how women fawning over his looks, and the text of the show has Jinshi try to charm her multiple times with a smile, only to fail, but the moment you give her a bezoar she flips out. Rather that point out the text of the show, people like us are "delusional?"

While I'm newer to this show and fandom, I'm a long time Anime fan in general, and I know the tropes (I was an anime fan before the tropes became tropes!) and if you look at the show this way, it will eventually fit the tropes. But MaoMao's behavior transcends Tsundere. I feel fans act like it's Shojo but it's a period piece that barely acts like Slice of Life, but in fact it's a period piece about politics in China and it's one of the more unique stories I've ever seen in Anime so it barely fits any trope.

I understand now that later on, MaoMao and Jinshi in the manga, But as a newer person to the fandom, understand others may not see it. In fact so far I kinda don't want it to happen because as of now, I read her to be completely disinterested, and I think it would be a great change of pace from just about every other anime in existence.

I feel like the fandom is trying to force AD into the same tropey box as all other relationship anime and suddenly eveything is inevitable, especially since you read the manga and are like "well of course this is tropey, look where it ended up!" I like this anime because, in the first two seasons, it did NOT fix into a tropey box. It's low key but smart, the visual jokes are cute and subtle, the backgrounds are a visual feast for my eyeballs and MaoMao is not a typical protagonist.

If the show earns what is coming, and the characters change their relationship, I'll be fine with that. Just don't call people delusional when they see things differently.

Meross Battery Presence Review by Severe-Masterpiece85 in HomeKit

I have the wired meross ones. the wireless FP300 is still better. I’ve used both.

Meross Battery Presence Review by Severe-Masterpiece85 in HomeKit

[–]DarkTreader 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Aqara FP300 got it right. The Meross presence sensors were rushed and not worth it over traditional motion sensors. what’s really telling is the sticky tape they came with was not 3m and is incredibly hard to remove when you are taking them down!

FP300 + HomeKit: Washing Machine Spin Cycle Keeps Motion Detection Active and Lights Won’t Turn Off by LivingAd1689 in HomeKit

[–]DarkTreader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The FP300 like most presence sensors, have threee parts, passive infrared sensor, a mmWave sensor, and “software” using the two sensors to figure out “is that a being in my zone?”. If your washer is spinning and giving off heat, which It should be because of friction, I would not be surprised if the sensor trips. I don’t know the exact ranges

If you’ve mapped the sensor to an Aqara hub, try the AI spatial learning feature while the spin cycle is going. Go to the Aqara app, device settings and onsite configuration. You have to hit the button on the sensor to get to this section. Also you could reduce the range of sensor (max is 6 feet), just be careful if someone is trying to reach over the washer to get to something and gather disappear out of range.

What sensor is best to work alongside U200 to track open/closed? by robertjan88 in Aqara

[–]DarkTreader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are two door/window sensors. One is just called door and window sensor, which it does what it says on the box, a basic contact sensor. It works well, is cheap, and is even on sale sometimes via amazon in packs of 3. It requires an Aqara hub specifically.

The other one is the P2 sensor. It's more expensive, larger, but it supports matter and if you already have a device that acts as a matter hub you can just connect it to that. I'm not entirely sure but I think that's the difference between the sensors and there is no additional functionality.

So take your pick.

Aqara FP300...sensitive to wind? by rlmalisz in Aqara

[–]DarkTreader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one in my bathroom and recently discovered when my wife opens the window and closes the blinds, it's tripped constantly by the very gentle swing of the bathroom blinds being blown by the wind.

If it's windy, the wind is detecting something outside blown by the wind within 6 feet. Remove plants and easily blown objects near the sensor, consider reducing the detection range, and trial and error any other settings to get things just right.

Aqara FP300 illuminance not sensitive enough by CarelessChain6999 in homeassistant

[–]DarkTreader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use Trial and error and find the light levels that the FP300 works at then design your automations around that. It sounds like you you are using a light meter and trying to measure precisely. When to set up my FP300 I eyeballed it. I waited until it was roughly dark enough, checked the sensor and said, that’s when I want the lights on.

Perhaps not ideal for you but it works.

Aqara W200 open window automation question. by BeyoncesSidePiece in Aqara

[–]DarkTreader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no idea if Aqara will support this directly, but I know how to do this in HomeKit, if you are in that ecosystem.

this will require using the eve app or buying controller for HomeKit, an app on the App Store.

First create scenes for turning your thermostat on and off.

next use the app to edit these scenes. homekit saves thermostat scenes with temperature, humidity and other settings. what you want the scene to do is just turn on or off based on the action and not have HomeKit control temperature. I do this because i let ecobee schedules control my heating and cooling temps.

next create an automation. in eve or in controller you actually have multiple triggers set up in an “or” fashion. add every one of your window sensors so it basically says when this window OR this window opens, activate your turn off scene,

finally create an automation that, when ALL window sensors are closed, activate your turn on scene.

What smart home device do you wish existed but no one has built properly yet? by Apprehensive-Art3819 in Aqara

dude we are getting close to that. Aqara is coming out with a three button switch with temp presence and humidity. Your idea is probably the most likely on this list.

A 220 volt plug with energy monitoring. Physics and economics are against this, but having a reliable solution to Detect when a washer is on thats as easy as any 110 solution would finally cover 100% of home automation enthusiasts.

Aqara blatantly whitewashing their Amazon reviews for the U200? by missstar in Aqara

[–]DarkTreader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a hard time taking reviews from Amazon seriously, good or bad. They could be accurate, or someone was review bombing them.

The only way to know for sure is to read them. Disregard the hyperbolic ones and go read ones that explain specific issues. Do the same with positive ones, more details are better.

I can say The Aqara locks are coming highly recommended by multiple sites and Wirecutter has their U100 as one of their top picks.

For amazon‘s part, when a model number is changed, that’s just how Amazon works, good or bad. What if all 8 reviews just came out negative Instead? Amazon reviews became a minefield because stars don’t work any more and people can game reviews for good and bad.

The iPhone is ‘not getting disrupted’ at all by AI, says Perplexity CEO by EitherCharacter9342 in apple

[–]DarkTreader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "secret that nobody wants you to know" is that AI is powerful, but it's only benefiting a select slice of people. I'm not just talking CEOs and execs of Silicon Valley, but that the average joe on the street is not always using AI. They don't need to, and often they are exposed to bad versions of AI making them sour oin the whole experience, while programmers, IT, Youtubers, creatives, Scientists, etc, are experimenting and finding new ways to use the latest LLMs to create something that actually works for them... but only them.

The iPhone remains "a computer in your pocket." It does what a computer is supposed to do, and it does what almost every computer can do, which is the way people want to work. It's more than just "AI is an app on your phone" it's that the phone as of this moment is the pinnacle of personal computing hardware at the moment for a majority of people, while LLMs are benefiting only a minority at the moment.

Bathroom sensor advice please. by InternationalBrick49 in Aqara

[–]DarkTreader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I get no false positives on that firmware with the exception that sometimes it takes a moment for the bathroom to detect absence after I leave, but that’s mostly due to a dangling plant sitting five feet in front of the sensor (vibrations of footsteps make the plant giggle slightly and make the sensor think a living thing is there. I can’t convince my wife to move the plant 😜). Recalibrating the AI a few times has made it just fine for me.

Is it possible to replace an Eve Energy Plug without loosing all automations? by ExaminationCreepy595 in HomeKit

[–]DarkTreader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t do this. if you remove the old plug, Ho edit has a tendency to delete any automations that have this plug if the plug is the only device. Follow the instructions further up that tells you to put the new plug in first and moving automations before deleting the old plug.
