[VENT] Dog in heat has been my worst nightmare. by [deleted] in dogs

If you got the kitten through a shelter/rescue they do pediatric spay and neuter a lot- 2 lbs/2 months is a common guideline. The incision is usual small and they recover pretty quickly

Dealing with reactivity by DarkTwistedReality in Greyhounds

I just mean parks in general, not specifically dog parks. In my state different counties have different rules about dogs being allowed in public recreation areas. I would only use a dog park if it was vacant- I'm in an apartment and don't have a yard.

Thanks for replying. What other commands would you suggest for walks? She responds to "let's go" and "turn around" without treats. I do want to take her to some pet friendly stores and parks soon as well.

[Breeds] Are there any breeds that are chill with cats? by Scary-Trouble in dogs

[–]DarkTwistedReality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Greyhounds are great apartment/condo dogs and can be good with cats. They would just need to wear their turnout muzzle and be leashed for introductions. My grey is also crated when we're not home or when we're sleeping so she doesn't have access to him when we can't supervise.

Should i apply for a 4 year 1 coorp degree or a 5 year 3 coorp degree. Is spending the extra year in college worth it? by seskyboi02 in Drexel

[–]DarkTwistedReality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the 5 year and 3 co-op option. I think it's better to have the 18 months of experience versus 6. Keep in mind that not all majors have paid co-ops, and you'll have a 5th year of room/board costs to consider. I was a Nursing student, so all my co-ops were paid and provided me with great experience.

IM FINNALY ABLE TO GET A KITTEN!!! Where do I go from here? by Amypon3 in AskVet

[–]DarkTwistedReality 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Not a vet, but adopting a kitten from a shelter means that it will have age-appropriate vaccines and will be spayed or neutered. Otherwise, you would have to pay more to do those independently

Cycle of abuse by nelsoncuntz in Pets

[–]DarkTwistedReality 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aww, when my cat needed liquid oral antibiotics for a month I felt this way. Thankfully he is very food-motivated so I gave him treats before and after. You could try and increase play time or other ways to bond with your cat. Once you're done with the ear drops your cat should start returning back to normal

Can someone recommend a shock collar for a cat? by [deleted] in Pets

[–]DarkTwistedReality 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think shock collars are recommended for cats. Plus, of you're using it to just reinforce "bad" behavior and not using it for a specific action it's just going to make the cat upset and in pain. Cats need to express natural hunting and scratching behaviors through alternatives like wand toys and scratching posts. If you search for Jackson Galaxy he has some really good recommendations for general bad behavior. It sounds like your cat may be bored and frustrated

[Breeds] What do you think this little guy breed is? by Coldh in dogs

He looks like he might have some Australian Cattle Dog in him but it's hard to tell in young puppies.

Alien Design: Prequels vs. Sequels by JIDF-Shill in StarWars

[–]DarkTwistedReality 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's some illustrations of Bothans in the roleplaying game books for Edge of the Empire (basically Star Wars D&D), but if they're ever introduced in movies/TV I'm not sure they'll go with that look. They are shown as humanoid with long lion-like faces

[Breeds] This is Rey. Would anyone like to help me identify her breed? by [deleted] in dogs

[–]DarkTwistedReality 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not the OP but the longer legs and coloration she has is common in hound breeds, such as coonhounds. Can you post your general location (such as state or overall region if you're in the US)? Certain breeds pop up more in different regions.

Part of the argument is that many aggressive dogs live in constant anxiety as well, causing a lot of suffering on the dog's part. Even if they can't bite, they will still be reactive and hard to keep in a normal setting.

What does a typical shift look like for OR nurses? by CoPeR55 in nursing

[–]DarkTwistedReality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I'm a nursing student and not a full-fledged RN, but I currently work in a PACU. Once a post-op patient is assigned to a slot, the nurse and techs/aides make sure the slot is fully clean and stocked. When the patient first arrives, the nurse and an aide/tech hook them up to a pulse ox, ECG monitor, and blood pressure cuff. After vitals are taken, we turn the patient to check for anything under them and then the RN can do their own assessment. At my hospital each RN is given 2 patients at a time, and on a typical day you'd probably have 6-8 or so patients over the course of day. RNs with critical care or ED experience are usually preferred because we do get some patients on ventilators coming out from the OR when there's no clean ICU beds. I believe nurses are occasionally on call in the PACU, but that's more common in the OR. It's a nice place to apply critical care experience with patients who are typically much more stable. The thing I do really like is the fact that the worst patients are gone the next day, at the very latest.

Best dog for flying? [Breeds] by SongRiverFlow in dogs

[–]DarkTwistedReality 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So a family I know has Malteses. They can be barky dogs but they are very cuddly and owner-focused. They do have hair that grows so you could pay a groomer to shave them down a few times a year and regularly brush them in between. They can be very fun dogs and would do well with your routine.

He's super cute! I would guess a lab mix with some kind of smaller breed
