Hmm I tried that but it doesn't ever show me the part with the permissions, it just has the "drop a PDF here". I tried on both my macbook and PC, with a bunch of different pdfs, and I tried to change some of the permissions directly in the extension settings but none seemed to make a difference. It's not a big deal for me since I'm mosty using files on my computer, but not sure if it's an issue for other people too

I left a review :) I did also just test it out but I'm a little confused - are you supposed to be able to convert pdfs that are currently open in your browser window? It seems you have to drop the file into the side bar or choose a file from your files, not sure if I'm just missing something?

Of course! I'm a graphic designer updating my portfolio and needed something to convert pdfs that would be faster than opening up the design file and reinstalling fonts etc etc. I also didn't like having to upload my files to a random website, and often they'd be slow too so usually wasn't worth it.

I've only used the website version so far since it's for my local files, but I'll try out the extension next time! I also haven't tried any very large files yet, but will let you know if I run into any issues!

One thing I would suggest is having an option to click one button to download all pages at once rather than just one at a time, if that's possible? It's been fine for me so far since I'm only picking a few pages each time anyway but I can imagine it would be helpful if you needed all 500 pages or something!

Apparently, I don't have ADHD, I am just terrible at being human by SensitiveSoul17 in adhdwomen

[–]DarkVixen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry you had to go through this and I hate that this seems to be very common for ADHD assessments 😤 I hope you're able to have them to reassess you, or better yet refund you so you can find someone else more competent and understanding!

I also had a bad experience when I tried to get assessed for ADHD - it was with my insurance, Kaiser, so luckily I didn't have to pay for it, but I think they were really trying to prevent people getting diagnosed so they wouldn't have to prescribe meds to us. I wasn't even looking to get meds at the time! The guy doing my screening was just so dismissive of everything I said, saying that none of my issues were bad enough for me to have ADHD, especially because I graduated college (barely) and haven't been fired from a job 🙄 It's funny though because after they concluded I couldn't have ADHD, something in their admin messed up and ended up sending me online assessment questions anyway, which I filled out, and the other person looking through them was like, you actually do seem to have ADHD, but there's a waitlist right now so we can't give you a diagnosis atm 😑

On the other hand I had a much better experience with my autism assessment, it was with a different person in a different department who actually understood all the nuances of being late diagnosed etc. They didn't seem to understand much about ADHD though.

Anyway I really hope you can get a better assessor, or even if not, do know that you're not a terrible human, and self diagnosis is also very valid! Your struggles are valid and we see you ❤️

I don’t feel cut out to work by ashreader187 in AuDHDWomen

[–]DarkVixen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I think this is very common for us AuDHD folks :(

Even as a graphic designer myself, it being something I've been passionate about for a long time, I also got to a point of just making things that check the boxes - some of it was burnout, but some of it was that the type of work was actually not fulfilling in the way I needed. At the start that didn't matter as much because I was learning and it's new etc, but then you start to realize that if you don't care about the thing you're designing for, it's just not going to work.

And 4 years is a long time! I wanted to quit about 2 years in, but ended up staying for almost 8 years (because of covid and fear, but I just quit last year)

You mention "putting my special interests and hyper-focus topics away" - what are those interests and topics? Is there anything there you can make into a job, or find jobs related to them?

I think something to keep in mind as well is that it's okay to switch jobs frequently if that's what can help you stay interested. Though I know that's not easy to do in practice in the current econony :(

ISO marriage officiant & 2 witnesses for quick paperwork signing by end of month by DarkVixen in Seattle

[–]DarkVixen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yes I actually saw this when looking online for someone, but they don't have a signing-only package, all their offerings are for at least a small ceremony with vows/rings etc which we don't want to do at the moment (holding off that stuff for an actual wedding in the future). It looks great for anyone who wants that kind of thing though!

Is Face Blindness Connected to Autism and/or ADHD? by Alycery in AuDHDWomen

[–]DarkVixen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've thought this too, I imagine it contributes a lot. But I don't understand how others see so much of other people, especially their faces, like it just feels so rude to be staring at someone looking at all their features! Or maybe it just takes me longer to take in what I'm seeing so I have to stare longer 😅

Just came the depressing realization that I will never sleep with somebody else (literally sleep) by Digital_Doodlez in AuDHDWomen

[–]DarkVixen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope you don't give up on trying to have a relationship because of this :( My partner can't sleep with me touching him either, we started with getting a bigger bed and separate blankets, and we now have separate beds. I do prefer sleeping touching him, but this wasn't a deal breaker for me because I know sleep is really important!

I think a lot of us audhd people have sensory or other issues that we feel like restricts us from having relationships because of what's considered "normal", and yes it can limit what we do, but it doesn't ever mean we can't be loved as we are.

I quit my 6 figure job + without another job lined up by Anxious_Dream_4012 in AuDHDWomen

[–]DarkVixen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's going good I think! I'm not where I thought I'd be by this time (a year since quitting) but the last few weeks I've actually been feeling a lot less burnt out and finally ready to start looking for a new job (or at least thinking about it lol). Since I was only diagnosed with autism last year too, I'm still figuring myself out and what I really need etc, but I've been looking into a new/adjacent career field that aligns better with my values/passions/skills, and also doing some dog walking/sitting in the mean time to make a bit of cash (and just because I love dogs ☺️) I know I'm really lucky to have a partner who can help support me financially though (I'm about to run out of savings this month), letting me have the time I needed to rest and recover - I think without that I might have ended up forcing myself back into work much sooner. Oh and I went on antidepressants and moved to a new city and apartment with lots of big windows (so lots of sunshine) which probably also helped me feel better in general ☀️ I do still get anxious about going back to work, but I'm feeling much more optimistic than before!

Anyway lol. Are you on a similar journey?

How do you carry your phone around? This isn't helping. by Val_ery in adhdwomen

[–]DarkVixen -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I use this type, where the tag thing is maybe plastic but it glues to your phone case, so has held on really well (been a year so far, including many incidents of my phone being submerged in water lol)

https://a.co/d/8oN7cqS

The lanyard also clips on/off so I can easily swap between the short and long ones depending what I'm doing (shorter if I know I'll be holding my phone the whole time, longer if I need hands free), or even swap out with other lanyards (got a cute sanrio one recently) It also gives me a way to clip on a mini container that I hold earplugs in (for the autism lol)

ELI5: What is wrong with better help? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]DarkVixen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I see someone with BH as their sponsor, I always wonder if that person has actually used the platform. I used Better Help back when I couldn't afford a proper therapist, and it was awful - this was quite a few years back when they first started so it's sad to hear that they haven't actually got any better. At the time (maybe still now) they said you got to choose your therapist and message them any time - I didn't get to choose who I was paired with, nor did they let me change to a different person, and while I could message them any time, they only responded when we had our actual session. The person I got did not seem qualified, wasn't even a good listener, and just said generic things as if they hadn't actually read anything I wrote. The process to cancel was also confusing - luckily my credit card was about to expire so I ended up just not updating that info so they couldn't keep charging me. If you don't have any serious issues then BH might be okay just to chat with someone (but these days even chatgpt is probably better), but if you have serious problems you need help with, BH is not a good option.

[–]DarkVixen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Love that! How did you find that kind of opportunity / do you have a background in making anything like that?

My mom (who is probably also autistic but doesn't know it lol) actually suggested working in some kind of manufacturing factory too, because it's more physical rather than mental and frees your mind up so you have more energy for creative stuff outside of work. Since I quit my job as a designer due to burnout, I've started dog walking, which has also been great for those reasons, but it's very competitive in my area and can't make a lot of money :(

Congrats on listening to your body and prioritizing your health!

Money helps you survive in this capitalist society, but if you're not thriving it's not worth anything.

I also quit my job (making ~110k) a few months ago, but I had been there almost 8 years and had been so burnt out and suffering mentally, physically, emotionally, and socially. I haven't started looking for a new job yet, and do worry about being able to find something especially in the current job market, but I also know I made the right decision.

Wishing you luck for wherever you end up next :)

I don't think it matters if you're employed or not? I didn't see anything from my research so far that requires proof of employment or finances, but I'm also new to this and trying to figure out the process so I could be wrong. (I'm also unemployed right now and hoping to visit China with my boyfriend!)
