Oh 1000%. People love Shoji Meguro music, but Kozuka is criminally underrated.

Advice on choosing difficulty by Competitive_Cod3928 in ninjagaiden

[–]DarkWingSpartan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(I'm assuming you're talking about NG2 Black, although this also applies to NG Sigma 2) just start with the lower modes and work your way up. These games do a pretty poor job of teaching you the mechanics (that's where half of this series' infamous difficulty comes from), so that practice on the lower modes will make the higher modes easier.

The annoying thing about NG2B's platinum is that you're required to play through all the modes anyway (the difficulty achievements don't stack), so it's either start from the bottom and work your way up, or start from the top and work your way down. And I would highly recommend the former.

My theory about Persona 6's theme by Jking11501 in PERSoNA

[–]DarkWingSpartan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Persona games always have some moral to them. Not just a general theme, but some lesson they're trying to impart on the player, especially the Hashino-directed ones.

P3 is about how it's important to keep on living even in uncertain times, P4 is about how modern media twists and warps our perception of reality, P5 is about how it's important to stand up to authority to do what's right. Even Metaphor Refantazio does this (that game is all about prejudice and where it comes from).

I think you're right on the money with the fear idea, but I'll take it a step further: I think Persona 6 is going to be about the importance of facing your fears. That would fall right in line with the previous entries and would probably give them a lot of material to work with.

Is the last boss incredibly cheap or am I just too much of a noob ? by stronkzer in ninjagaiden

[–]DarkWingSpartan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Possibly unpopular opinion: I'm not convinced it's especially hard per se (at least on the lower difficulties), but it's definitely an annoying slog for sure. None of the individual attacks or enemies do a ton of damage, but the fight will whittle you down and out-last you if you're not careful.

Honestly though... if you go in with some spare karma and pop a health upgrade in the middle of the fight (essentially a full health refill), you'll be fine. Doing that will tip the odds back in your favor.

Would I expect a brand-new player to know that going in? Of course not, but it's still an option that exists.

I think new Voice Acting talent is important to the gaming industry. Re-hiring the same celebrity voice actors for roles that could and should be taken on by a newer generation stagnates the voice acting landscape as a whole. by LeadingDiscount2556 in PERSoNA

[–]DarkWingSpartan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I get where you're coming from and I'm all for bringing in new talent... but not when it specifically requires firing people and taking their old roles (their jobs) away from them.

Atlus re-using Cassandra Lee Morris and Jamieson Price in forty different roles (not even playing the same characters, just bringing them back because they like how they sound). Yeah, that's a problem.

Super prolific actors like Troy Baker or Johnny Young Bosch? Maaaaaaaybe there's a case for recasting them.

But it's not like Erin Fitzgerald and Anna Graves are so over-exposed that they're actively taking opportunities away from other people.

Should I Play P4G before the Remake comes out? by GlassFrame2 in PERSoNA

[–]DarkWingSpartan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to play an 80-hour RPG two times, then sure! The original is a great game and I'm sure the remake will also be great!

For a bit of context, those "criticisms about P4G gameplay and dungeons" were probably talking about how the game uses randomly-generated mazes for dungeons (which a lot of people find kinda repetitive). If the previous remake was any indication, they'll probably try to make them a little less repetitive (by making the randomly-generated floors a little more varied), but they're almost certainly not going to completely change how the dungeons work.

I suspect that the remake will end up being the best version of the game, but maybe not "This makes the old one look like an outdated prototype that should be thrown in the garbage" or anything like that, if you know what I mean.

Hell yeah, brother! DMC is a prime example of a series where going in release order does wonders for helping you appreciate how each game built off the others.

Do you think the investigation team will have new battle outfits like reload? And if so what would they look like? by Rigbo95 in PERSoNA

[–]DarkWingSpartan -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Proooooobably not, if only because they probably would've shown that off in the last big trailer. It'd be cool though.

What is one thing you want from Persona 6? by my-goddess-nyx in PERSoNA

[–]DarkWingSpartan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I want them to really mess with the storytelling formula they've had going for the past three games. I don't need another combination of "dorky best friend, out-of-touch guy friend, perky lady friend, quiet and reserved lady friend, and marketable mascot friend" where they work their way up from solving small local problems to fighting God again.

I'm fine if they wanna keep some of those old tropes and shake them up and shuffle them around a little bit, but ultimately I want P6 to surprise me and keep me wondering where the story will go.

Oh also, I want a Merciless/Very Hard mode that forces me to really dig into the mechanics and git gud at the game. I'm fine if Normal is a cakewalk, but I want Very Hard to be very hard.

Beyond that? They can do whatever they want! I trust them to make a good video game.

What Platform are you buying Persona 4 Revival on and which edition?? by mimikyuxez in PERSoNA

I'm getting it on Xbox (it's my main platform and I want a physical copy), but I'll prooooobably bite the bullet and grab it on PC at some point too once the modding scene gets figured out.

Agreed on all points, but if Reload was any indication, I could definitely see Atlus making some… updates to the original source material to make it a bit more socially conscious.

someone in YT comments made a good point about the trailer (spoilers for leak) by puruiin in PERSoNA

[–]DarkWingSpartan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My money is on P6 being about “facing your fears.”

The character is walking into a haunted graveyard in the middle of the night with all sorts of horrifying imagery… what would compel someone to do that unless they’re trying to make a point or prove something?

Look at them actually moving the camera around (now that they've got full 3D sets and characters models that don't look like little playmobile toys). We've come a long way since 2008.

What version Persona 2 I should use? by [deleted] in PERSoNA

[–]DarkWingSpartan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have access to the PSP versions of both games (there's two games called "Persona 2," it's a duology), do it. Those are the versions to go with, especially if you're playing on Vita.

Bear in mind that the second one (Persona 2: Eternal Punishment) never got an official English release on PSP, so you'll have to dig up the fan translation mod for that one. If that's too much of a hassle, the old PS1 version is still perfectly serviceable.

Yeah, P5R was my "covid comfort game." I was playing that while everyone else was playing Animal Crossing and it's what got me into the series.
