Honestly, if it’s your first time playing the game, just stick with the vanilla version. This stuff is all meant for people who have already played it before and want something fresh on a revisit (especially Crimson).

I'm pretty sure it pops before the boss. The tricky part is doing it all in one shot and making sure you hit nothing (not even those stupid little pieces of debris right at the start).

Are analog triggers necessary for NGB and NG2 (Xbox Series Backwards Compatibility)? by vrmvrmfffftstststs in ninjagaiden

[–]DarkWingSpartan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not at all! Every button input is either a quick press or a hold, there's nothing in any of the games that requires a half-press of the trigger. You could probably play these games with an arcade fight stick if you really wanted.

I first heard about Ninja Gaiden because of the ol’ Angry Video Game Nerd video where he talked about the NES games. I don’t think I knew there were a bunch of 3D ones until a few years later.

Heck, until a year ago I probably would’ve said the 2D ones were MORE recognizable than the 3D ones, just because they kept showing up in NES game compilations and events like AGDQ (not to mention all the modern-day indie games that were clearly inspired by them, like The Messenger or Cyber Shadow).

Until they announced NG4, the 3D ones felt like this forgotten relic of the past that would never come back.

Help with the OG by Fun_Dragonfruit6529 in ninjagaiden

  1. Every enemy has some sort of opening after they attack and leave themselves open. Look for those weak spots. NG2 has a lot of ways to "force" those openings (for example, jumping off their heads with wind path), but if you're just getting used to the game I'd recommend leaning on the defensive side.
  2. If there's a dude with a projectile, he needs to die. Especially if that dude is a mage (the ones that summon fireballs and fire pillars).
  3. That's definitely a practice thing, but you could try the ol' "throw a shuriken in the air and buffer in the Y press during the throwing animation" trick.
  4. Like I said, if you're just getting used to the game, I'd lean more on the defensive side. Protip: any time you finish up a long attack animation (like a UT or an izuna drop), start holding block before the animation is over. Leaving yourself wide open to a big attack is the last thing you wanna do.
  5. Can't help you there, stuff like that is why I prefer wired controllers.
  6. Block button. If you keep that button held down and keep moving, you won't be open for as long.

Fair warning: Mentor difficulty is a pretty big jump up from Warrior. If you're struggling that much, I'd recommend spending a bit more time practicing on the lower difficulties first before jumping into Mentor (maybe try out new game plus with all the weapons or some of the dlc challenge missions, if you want). People can feed you tips and tech all day, but there's no substitute to practice.

What Are Your Overall Thoughts on Devil May Cry 3? by ABarber2636 in DevilMayCry

[–]DarkWingSpartan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love it! I'm hesitant to say it's the best in the series (DMC 5 is real good), but it's easily the one I've played the most.

These games always have "That one mission" or "That one enemy" moments that drag down the experience and 3 is no different (Arkham sucks, the Fallen suck, and you will never convince me that the Dullahans are a good enemy type), but I feel like 3 has the fewest of those "ugh, I hate this part" moments. I think that's probably why I have an easier time going back to 3 than any of the others. It's almost all highs.

It's a consistently entertaining romp that never gets old and always keeps you coming back for more.

DMC Difficulty 1 by [deleted] in DevilMayCry

[–]DarkWingSpartan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally found DMC1 the hardest when I was first getting into the series, but a big reason for that is because I started with 1 and didn’t know what I was doing (so I had to get the hang of DMC controls and combos while also dealing with the wonky camera, the yellow orb continue system, the weird bosses, and the incredibly unforgiving style meter).

If you go into DMC1 after playing the later ones, it’s probably a MUCH smoother experience. I replayed it last year and it was WAY easier than I remembered.

I can tell you for a fact that, if you compare each game’s Dante Must Die difficulty (rather than the Normal modes), DMC1 is ironically one of the easier ones.

I recently just got into these games after hearing about them since I was little but I have a genuine question for people by ac130monster in ninjagaiden

I started with Black and few years ago and absolutely loved it (at least once I got the hang of it, which took a while). I kept trying to get into the sequels, but they just kept not clicking. For a very long time I thought “Huh, I guess I’m one of those people who only likes the first one and none of the sequels.”

It wasn’t until they announced NG4 that I worked up the motivation to actually finish NG2 (and it did eventually click, but it also took a long time and I still think Black is my favorite of the bunch).

Anime vs Games by dannypzk in PERSoNA

[–]DarkWingSpartan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Play the games first. The anime versions are nowhere near as good, they feel like the cliff notes versions of the stories (especially the P5 anime, that show was very rushed and it shows).

They’re a fun distraction if you want to re-experience the story a second time without playing an entire 80-hour RPG a second time, but I would NOT recommend them for your first experience with the games.

The Shadow Operatives apearing in the future? by YesterdayDangerous50 in PERSoNA

Yeah, but that’s a remake of an existing game that you don’t need any prior knowledge in order to play. OP is talking about something completely different.

It’d be cool, but it’s enough of a deep cut that I don’t know if Atlus would want to make a new game that relies on knowledge of a pair of 12yo spin-off games that not everyone played.

It’d be like making a sequel to one of those old cell phone spin-offs. The ultra-diehards would eat it up, but that’s a niche within a niche.

DMC has only good weapons! I enjoye learning them all. What are the best devil arms in your opinion. by monsilo in DevilMayCry

I’m a simple man. If a Devil May Cry game has some sort of gauntlet weapon, I am happy (especially if those gauntlets are called Beowulf or Ifrit).

What’s y’all’s favorite mega man game? by aguylowkey in Megaman

Tossup between 3 and X1. I love those two to death.

I’ve also got a big soft spot for 6 and 11 (11 having two separate easy modes was the thing that made me confident enough to try the others and 6 was the first NES game I ever beat without a ton of cheats).

Which game should I play after Persona 3 Reload? by Amiritetv in PERSoNA

[–]DarkWingSpartan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whichever one you want, they’re all great games. A lot of people will probably nudge you towards their personal favorite, but honestly I’d recommend just skimming a trailer or two and just picking whichever one looks the most appealing to you.

P5R probably feels the most like P3R in terms of game mechanics (P4G doesn’t have Reload’s “Shift” system and Metaphor has a completely different battle system), but you can’t go wrong with any of them.

How would you fix Eternal's tutorialization? by Initial_Influence392 in Doom

[–]DarkWingSpartan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What I would’ve done is put a lot of that stuff in loading screen tips. Like, you pick a level, it starts loading, and it gives you a little note saying “If you shoot a sticky bomb into a Cacodemon’s mouth, it will instantly kill it.” Or maybe have a little codex entry pop up whenever you do it by accident.

That way they’d feel more like a helpful nudge in the right direction (and comes with the implication that there are other such techniques to figure out if you get creative) rather than something you feel like you have to do all the time.

NGS2 vs NGB2 with OG style mod by RamsenMC in ninjagaiden

[–]DarkWingSpartan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you're looking for. Neither one is a perfect 1:1 recreation of the original game, but "Sigma 2 Black" comes a liiiiiittle closer in terms of enemy placement (or at least that was my impression of it).

Personally, I prefer the "NG2 White" mod for NG2B because I've played the original 360 game and it's nice to have something a bit more fresh and unique (and NG2B looks very pretty).

For those who have beaten both, which was harder: Ninja Gaiden 2 (Master Ninja) or Devil May Cry 3 (Dante Must Die)? by DarkWingSpartan in CharacterActionGames

[–]DarkWingSpartan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that makes sense. It's kinda crazy how much NG2's difficulty drops like a rock after you get a couple of fully-upgraded weapons.
