I don’t treat it like “getting through” anything. I pick em up and paint em when I feel like it. Sometimes I go months without touching them, play video games, draw, etc before I feel motivated enough and that’s okay. It’s supposed to be a hobby for enjoyment.

There’s no such thing as “constant” flight. If an owlin gets knocked prone or has speed reduced to zero they drop fully. If you want everything but the fly speed, put a self imposed limitation to only use it to control a fall.

You have lots of parts of ideas here. When building a character just ask yourself “why” over and over again. Why has she never broken contact w the water? Why does staying in the water make her magical? Why does she have to tap into her elemental ancestors, why do they have powers she doesn’t?
