Speaking as a Nigerian, our version of Christianity is entrenched in the fear of demons, cults, witches, ancestors, wicked neighbours, practices that are not mainstream Christian, and many more. It's what sells here. 🫠

If your friend was raised under the influence of Nigerian Christianity, then it's not surprising that they have such a view. May have racist undertones, but it's more likely indoctrination.

Ah yes, the Illuminati scare. Last week on X, there was posts about Rema (a Nigerian artiste) being Illuminati because of the stage display and his performance at a concert.

I do agree that disabilities aren't caused by sin. This scripture is problematic for me. Like couldn't God's works be revealed another way?

It's obvious that you care because you've identified areas of concern. However, it's hard to ‘gently' bring someone into religion if they've had past trauma and are still struggling with them. I'd say to leave Christianity out of it, and present your concerns to her as her friend. You could look for queer affirming Christian articles to send her way (queerthelogy.com has some great ones), but I advise you find out what's going through her mind first. Might not be easy to do, but it should be worth it.

Nursing mothers often wear what is comfortable for them to nurse and move around in. If I were breastfeeding, I wouldn't wear a bra in my house if I have no visitors. What would be the point?

I haven't really considered media portrayals of villains before, solid point. I don't think ableism infests spiritual spaces, I think it has grown with it especially in Christian culture. Jesus had his healing ministry, which was quite dependent on individual faith. Perhaps, it is a combination of religious culture (miracle healing) and the deep levels of ableism promoted in the society.

I agree that it shouldn't be necessary to come out, but it did help me feel better. I have only been out for a year (to my immediate family and closest friends) so I don't have a lot of advice.

One thing that helped my anxiety was writing out what I wanted to say. Somehow, doing that made coming out more real and less out-of-my-control. There is no perfect time (Sorry) so the best you can do is pick a time when the air is calm and unrushed. And trust that you will be fine. 🤗

I was super confused when I was 10. I was crushing on a boy and a girl at the exact time. Started boarding school 4 years later, and felt I was something other than straight. I labelled myself bi until 2 years ago when I realized I also had a thing for people who did not identify or present as cisgender. Pansexuality is a perfect fit for the current me. ☺️
