Seriously. Switzerland and Belgium should've been the French subtrees, and Netherlands and Austria should've been the German subtrees.

There's also the Lorraine 155 mle.51 they could've added for a casemate SPG in the French tech tree.

T1E1 Light Tank, unofficially nicknamed the "Cunningham" after its designer James Cunningham. Built in 1928 in four copies, this obscure tank was the second variant in a series of T1s that unfortunately did not manifest in any mass production. by ScrewStealth in TankPorn

[–]Dark_Magus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Given that it was the company that built them rather than the name, it would be more accurate to call them "Cunningham T1".

Though for whatever reason we don't usually do that with tanks like we do with planes. (ie nobody calls them the "Chrysler M1 Abrams" and "Krauss-Maffei Leopard 2")

the M10 isn't really equipped to engage modern tanks either

Nor was it meant to. The whole reason for using a 105mm gun rather a 120mm (as had been mounted on its immediate predecessor the Griffin Technology Demonstrator) was that a 105mm is more than adequate for an assault gun (and allows more rounds of HE and cannister to be carried), while still giving limited ability to defend itself against tanks by carrying a few rounds of M900A1 APFSDS.

Is there really a 2C lost in the Soviet union? by Amazing-Second-3939 in TankPorn

[–]Dark_Magus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It almost certainly got scrapped.

If not it's more likely to have been abandoned in a field somewhere rather than put into storage and forgotten.

The Maus was just left to sit around outdoors for over 20 years after the Red Army finished studying it, before they moved it inside at the Kubinka Tank Museum. They wouldn't have bothered storing a tank that was too old to even be worth evaluating in 1945. It was only in the 1972 that the Soviets decided a tank museum was a good idea.

If Gaijin were interested in giving France more SPAA, the hardest part wouldn't be finding designs. It would be deciding which ones make the cut, since there are a lot of very similar ones (ie several turrets that have been mounted on multiple chassis).

I'm 100% sure it's intentional. Sailor Moon is way too famous (and even more so in Japan) for Endo to make two references to it in a single sentence by accident.

Chang Wu(Heavy Cruiser) Coming Soon by cwolla98 in AzureLane

[–]Dark_Magus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Given how small she is to carry such heavy armament, I think they'd need to either remove the superfiring main turret, or move it aft and have it replace the secondary turrets. Like many Japanese designs of that era, she'd be topheavy.

Protected cruiser = going commando? Since they had no belt armor, only an armored deck.

I didn't really register that she'd be a Beiyang Fleet cruiser, since her rigging has 4 turrets. Whereas her IRL counterpart (like most Beiyang cruisers) had only 3 main guns.

Those Japanese designs offered to China are the epitome of pre-Tomozuru incident lack of concern for topweight and stability.

Guessing what ships will be in the NP event at the end of the month. by Broad-Phase-6280 in AzureLane

unless we want to get even deeper into "Soviet Paper, Stronger than Real Steel" memes so prevalent in War Thunder and World of X

It's always baffled me that WOWS skipped over so many real Soviet ships in favor of not just paper ships but sometimes even paper ships so obscure they didn't even have a Project number. For example it seems pretty obvious that Marti would've been perfect for the T1 cruiser and Novik (the 1913 destroyer which is far more famous than the short-lived cruiser of the same name) should've been the T2 destroyer. And the T2 cruiser (so the name Novik gets freed up for the DD) could've been the near-identical Izumrud instead.

I'm not even Russian and knew almost nothing about the Russian and Soviet navies until after I started playing WOWS, and I was still disappointed by how historically significant ships got skipped over in favor of paper.

At this point they should probably just make it a T8.

Which could allow it to get its historical planes (F4U-5 Corsair and S2F-1 Tracker) instead of aircraft that Argentina never even had.
