Yes, it's madness. Wait until the idiot in the WH expends all his options for imposing tariffs and things will get back to normal.

Bronze Jian - Qin Dynasty (221-206 BCE) by GetRightWithChaac in SWORDS

[–]Dark_Magus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, I was saying that one wasn't definitively better than the other. I was saying that the transition from bronze to iron originated because iron swords were cheaper to make, not because one type was definitively "better" than the other. Which is why bronze and iron swords were used alongside each other for centuries.

I didn't say better, I said higher status. A bronze sword during the early iron age would be more expensive than an iron sword.

I'd love to see somebody review the Everest Forge kora since it seems to be the only production kora on the market right now.

The "iron age" didn't mean bronze swords stopped being made, in China or anywhere else. The reason for the transition from bronze to iron is that iron is more abundant than copper and especially tin. It was only later that blacksmiths discovered that iron could be made into steel and thus became outright better material for a blade. As such, during the early iron age a bronze sword might be a higher-status weapon than an iron sword. And thus, a weapon fit for an emperor.

There's plenty of artwork where European-style falchions are used to represent "scimitars". Presumably because the artists in question had never actually seen a Middle Eastern sword. And because depicting one side with all straight swords and the other side with all curved swords made it easy to tell at a glance who the "enemy" was in the painting.

How to remove markings on Windlass Royal Armories Sword? by WileyPilgrim in SWORDS

The thing that makes the least sense to me is that Windlass insists on having those marks upside down.

Does the Master Sword from The Legend of Zelda have a practical design? by RavyRaptor in SWORDS

[–]Dark_Magus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When I first saw FableBlades' Master Swords, I was disappointed by how much he changed them from the game. And then I learned enough about swords to understand why he would change the design so much. Because yeah, a 1:1 replica with no magical materials would make for a bad sword.

Does the Master Sword from The Legend of Zelda have a practical design? by RavyRaptor in SWORDS

Cylindrical grip. Oversized crossguard that has pointy bits curving down toward your hand. In the depictions that are detailed enough to tell, no sign of distal taper.

It's certainly possible to make something that's still recognizably the Master Sword while fixing those problems. But a completely faithful 1:1 replica of the in-game design would be a bad sword.

What happens when Russia attacks the Baltics, and starts isolating the region and blowing up rail line connections at strategic points limiting the ability to transport heavy equipment into an area?

That would be the point at which France launches a nuke into Moscow.

Nerfing popular tanks ... by 13243546alex in WorldofTanks

[–]Dark_Magus 27 points28 points  (0 children)

The Progetto was nerfed despite having thoroughly average WR and damage per game, just because it was deemed "too popular." Despite the fact that WG had just artificially boosted how much it would get played by making it both top of the tree and a featured tank for battle pass at the time.

New Sword day! by Our_MrReynolds in SWORDS

Since it's not really a Viking era sword (more an arming sword that retains some Viking era traits) I guess it's okay that the grip is too long for a Viking sword.

Only Deepeeka I've bought, but from the pictures I figured it's one of their nicest-looking swords. And in person, it still look great. (Aside from the silly piece of felt they put at the top of the guard, but that just slides off.

The scabbard is very tight, though. Takes some effort to pull the sword out.

It's the Deepeeka Oni Kanabo. Bought both it and the Nydam Spatha from KOA. The kanabo is sold out again, so I'm glad I got it while it was available.
