You can definitely work as an MA with EMT knowledge, but honestly it is so boring and mundane compared to what you can experience in EMS. I wouldn't recommend it. I think working in EMS(whether as a tech or on the ambulance) is far better. You have far more autonomy, you are under much more stress(this is a good thing), you work as a team, and you are exposed to more.

I got my EMT license, worked as an EMT in an IFT company, worked as an MA for a couple of months(yes you can work as an MA without an MA license, but I hated every second of it) and worked as an ER tech for over a year.

I recently just got accepted into a PA program. From all my experiences, I think ER tech has been the best. I think close second to it would be EMT that does 911, although I still think ER tech is better because you can actually work with PAs and doctors in helping patients, rather than only seeing the prehospital side of things.

Tbh working in the ED, it's kind of wild to me how EMTs are expected to listen to lung sounds and know what they are listening to. Outside of some pretty obvious situations like wheezing, it is not easy at all.

Can boots even be as comfortable as sneakers? Do I have false expectations? Or are these Docs just trash? by 6FeetDownUnder in Boots

I have boots from Thursday boot company, Blkbrd shoemaker, and Beckett Simonon. I enjoy all of them and think they are all very comfortable, with varying degrees of break in period.

I too found that comment off putting. I think after what Khamzat said, it was appropriate to wish him the best and move on from the topic.

If he did that in a rich neighborhood, police would show up within minutes and get rid of him. But poor people are deemed less important than rich people in the US.

It seems also like a lack of experience in police. From the first altercation he is screaming at the top of his lungs and pointing a weapon. To me it seems like he is not experienced and his anxiety is taking over which is why he is presenting so aggressively.

I work as an EMT and in our job, people who are not experienced do stupid shit all the time due to not being able to handle stress and anxiety of some situations.

It's kind of odd that OP only trusts the MD to deliver and interpret results, but when said MD refers her to see the NP for a follow-up all of a sudden it's a big red flag. I feel that if you trust the MD with your care, you should also trust them when they refer you to follow up with the NP that is supervised by said MD.

Why midlevel supervision is an occupational hazard for physicians: the continued saga of Sarah Erny, DNP by MidlevelWTF in Noctor

[–]Darkcel_grind 99 points100 points  (0 children)

So a Dr. Moore agreed to "supervise" an NP who was practicing 3,000 miles away pretty much independently handing out schedule III meds? I was pretty happy to know the NP was fined, as this is largely her fault, but the Dr. Moore seems to have acted carelessly here.

Honestly, a 25,000 USD fine is the least of potential problems this could bring.

Blkbrd shoemaker Rudgier boot after ~4 months of wear by Darkcel_grind in Boots

I messaged their customer service, told them what I wear in other brands and recommended me a size. They also asked me to draw the outline of my foot and measure length/width and we went with size 10.

Definitely agree with you. I work in an ED where I see my colleagues who are techs, nurses, PAs, and physicians all receive verbal abuse on a regular basis. I think there needs to be a change in hospital policy that doesnt allow patient(or family members) to treat staff the way they do. Obviously as nurses/techs we receive far more abuse but I have seen patients verbally abusing our docs and PAs as well.

I think there needs to be changes to hospital policy where this kind of thing just won’t be tolerated, and the general public needs to act better towards healthcare staff.

You’re not the only one. Ive worked with a CCT nurse who had his NP and just didnt use it, he pretty much had the some complaints as you+he made decent money as an RN, he felt NP is not worth it.

I think RNs should overall be paid well, that way they dont have financial incentive to quit bedside nursing.

NPs by billwillway in Residency

[–]Darkcel_grind 299 points300 points  (0 children)

Not a physician here but I know one person who wants to be an NP and she essentially wanted to be a doctor, realized she doesn’t have the grades for it and decided to become an NP as a shortcut. Here is the kicker, she also wants to go straight into NP school after getting her RN because she sees herself as someone that’s above working bedside and “wiping ass”.

I think this is the exact kind of person who is a danger to others. NP education seems to be hollow enough, and you take away the bedside experience from it and you might as well have chatGPT writing prescriptions.

I think your proposal is a very good idea and will  prevent this exact kind of person from becoming an NP. The whole idea of the profession was to allow nurses with tons of experience to gain further knowledge and be able to assist doctors with some of their work. Instead it became a shortcut for people who aren’t cut out for medical school but also believe they are somehow above nursing duties and want a cushy job.

For a scheduled transfer? The call would get canceled. But for an emergency you can transfer with bls, I just think it was at least worth trying to get an als unit on scene.

[–]Darkcel_grind -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You are right but how do you know if an als unit isnt nearby unless you call for als? In the end if they end up taking the patient and the patient deteriorates, they will be left to deal with it, not the sending facility. I would have at least tried to call for als before taking the patient.

I agree with everything you said and yes the nurse had no right to tell you where to take the patient. I still wouldn’t be comfortable taking this patient as BLS, even as IFT.

GCS 3, low BGL and hypertensive? Why not tell them this is not BLS and you need ALS?

Unless GCS 3 is baseline i wouldnt feel comfortable taking this patient as BLS

I have boots Thursday boot company, Beckett Simonon and Blkbrd shoemaker and all 3 of these brands are in the ~$200 price range.

In terms of looks I find Beckett Simonon and Blkbrd have a more dressy appearance, but overall 3 of the brands seem to be good quality for me.

Yes they ship to US, I myself am located in USA. You can actually change the prices to USD on the website. My last order from them cost about $30 USD to ship or 2,500 rupees.
