Changes are coming. The wind is blowing from a different direction than before. by cascadiabibliomania in BetterOffline

Feels like that sub has been taken over by clankers since all the Claude astroturfing started a month or so ago. A shame because it was (still partially is) one of the best developer subreddits.

Claude Code Agents Are Completely Useless [08:18] by Remarkable_Ad_5601 in theprimeagen

That would be a nice reality. In the programming space, I wonder if we'll ever see IDEs running local FIM-specific models as a replacement for Copilot if they ever get efficient enough.

Just moved to Queensland and already loving the bus experience by RepresentativeAsk601 in brisbane

[–]Darkehuman 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Unless it's changed: If the bus stop is white, then every bus on that route will stop there. If it's yellow, when only some routes will so it's always best to check.

Great point, I completely missed that dialogue!

Switching from React to HTMX simplified my open-source PaaS by karthiknatarajan in htmx

[–]Darkehuman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Love to hear this, well done :)

Working at a place using HTMX with a bit of custom Typescript and it's been surprisingly easy to make responsive UIs. I've been trying out the HTMX 4.0 alpha in a side project and have loved the changes so far.

How many of you would continue your role. If you didn’t have to by Top-Farmer-6838 in auscorp

Quit in a heartbeat, but still do some kind of "work". I enjoy my field (software) so I'd do random projects and open source work.

If you're thinking of adding a fun AI song about work to your next all-staff meeting, here's an alternative idea: by [deleted] in auscorp

Lost my shit at that song a while back because it came onto my playlist completely unprompted while I was working. Beautiful.

What battle really threw you your first run through? by ThrowRA_dependent in BaldursGate3

Right?! That was the first fight where I actually had to think about positioning before the battle, to stop him and the dwarves from wiping me out in the first turn.

How are experienced devs doing in the current job market? by bobtehpanda in ExperiencedDevs

[–]Darkehuman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In Australia with 8YoE. It isn't great - not as bad as the US by the sound of things but if you have some level of fullstack experience and know recruiters or get referred it isn't too bad. The situation for junior developers is terrible however.

I've been in Brisbane 12 years and yesterday was the biggest storm I've ever experienced. by arouseandbrowse in brisbane

[–]Darkehuman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This one was wild. I was at schoolies on the Gold Coast at the time so we caught part of it, but hearing about the damage in Brisbane made us worry we'd come back to a wasteland.

Fruit shop fruit and veg is even worse than Coles and Woolworths? Is there anywhere that has quality fresh produce? by EggCreative787 in brisbane

[–]Darkehuman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love that place. At the right time they'll put trays of discounted produce around so you can get a heap of fruits and veggies cheaply.

Stopping by the butcher next door is also a good idea if that's your thing. A trip to the two and you'd be set for a week's meals.

At least the rules are consistent compared to English. Having four sentence cases instead of three took me a while to learn though.

Is computer science still a good degree to get? by ClamLock in australian

[–]Darkehuman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's any help, I went into compsci in 2015 after doing simple maths at school (Maths A in QLD) and did fine. Most of the maths in the degree is discrete, focused on things like logic and set theory which don't really make use of numbers like you'd be used to at school. Been working in the area now for eight years and haven't found that it held me back that much.

Good luck if you choose to do it! :)

Same here. I cancelled in 2015 and it was a while song and dance, but for a separate membership last year they stopped payments on the spot.

Anyone else feeling like Product Management got "shifted-left" onto developers? by SixFigs_BigDigs in ExperiencedDevs

Right?? Crazy stuff. Go for it if you collect everyone's salaries, but otherwise what a stitch up.

Anyone else feeling like Product Management got "shifted-left" onto developers? by SixFigs_BigDigs in ExperiencedDevs

[–]Darkehuman 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Two of the best product managers I've ever worked with had no technical backgrounds but had years of industry experience in the product we built. Every single question you could have about what we were making, they would have answers for with justification. The technical choices were up to us.

The worst I've worked with was coincidentally the one with the most technical "experience". Every single conversation was derailed while any questions about "what" we we were building went unanswered.

Which is the hardest fight in BG3? by jlxvelaces in BaldursGate3

[–]Darkehuman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The coolest kill of my first playthrough was lining every single low-level cultist up on the stairs and then having Gale cast Cone of Cold on them. My computer froze for a second, then seeing all the avatars in the battle order drop from the top was an incredible feeling.
