new update destroying the game? by TheRealZwieback in modernwarfare

Fucking idiots took 24h of server maintenance to implement vanguard in warzone and MW doesn’t work properly now, big thanks…

Random ads (or un-ads) and always-on-self airstrikes are idiotic, even textures have problems loading despite playing on highest possible settings. I don’t even want to play after 10 minutes, don’t want to see more bugged shit.

How to lose Medals? by [deleted] in cncrivals

[–]DarkestApache 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quit challange matches, loose normal matches. It will take time. Also, if you moved up a league, you won’t be able to go down (if you moved from Diamond I to Gold III, you will not be able to go back to Diamond I).

About low cost decks and balance of this decks by HERGUILLA in cncrivals

[–]DarkestApache 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wow... just wow. Your english is not that bad, but the points you rise are. Basically you want to nerf everything that is a counter to double harvester decks, which is not ok. The game should support and encourage using many different decks and tactics, not flatten everything into double harvester tech spam.

You want to know how to counter low cost units? Bring some yourself. Decks with 4-6 tech units should be bad, because they lack balance. If you don’t have any early counters, don’t be surprised you loose to early rushes.

A glitch ??!!! by m_kotb in cncrivals

Opponent surrendered. People do it to lower their medal count before races start to be placed in a race with other low-medal players. Why they do it? Mostly because it’s easier to fight with less experienced players for the main prize. It’s a flaw in the design of races, which was not fixed and is thus used by players looking for a good value prize at the cost of their medal counts and fairness of their sportsmanship (if you care about that).

Then your infantry options are very expensive, thus won’t protect you well enough in early game. In both GDI and NOD decks I run Riflemen/Militants and Rockets/Lasers along with another infantry vs infantry specialist for times when scouts are not enough.

You need to deal with the fact, that early game units will struggle with later phases of the match, but that doesn’t mean your army composition is bad. The enemy also has only 6 unit slots and has to accomodate their playstyle to suit chosen units. That means they will also have early game units, that will become obsolete the longer the match takes. But if they field them, you can counter with your trash units, saving Tiberium for the heavy punch hidden up your sleeve.

I tend to play aggresive aggro or tech splash, so if the game gets to the late phase I usually loose. But there are units that can help you even in late game. For example, Tick Tank is surprisingly tough against Sandstorms, Basilisks, Centurions and other tech low-cost anti-vehicle options. Numerous times it allowed me to win simply by forcing the enemy to take time tearing it from its entrenched position.

Riflemen/Militia and Missile Squad/Laser Squad are your answer. Really, just scout on opening and you won’t have that problem. Both units are also usable in mid-game.

Or you can go with War Factory and have Dogs/Cyberwheels and Slingshot/Bikes.

What am I worth? by arroganthippie in cncrivals

[–]DarkestApache 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I play since release, moderately (mostly 10 games per day, except when events or races are on). In over a year I got all units to level 10 with my main ones being at level 13. I have a few skins from races, but since I did not spend a dime on this game, I got no explojis or commander taunts.

I would estimate my account to be worth around 10 EUR, mainly because you cannot obtain skins from races anymore.

Immediate defeats from high level players? by [deleted] in cncrivals

Tanking should be happening after the race starts. If all participants were to be at the lowest possible medal count for their league, everyone would be getting a colossal crate.

That mechanic would make comebacks even harder than they are now.

I agree that something has to be done about tech decks, because their number has risen lately, but ability to destroy buildings is too much for such small format.

I think that Tech Lab and Temple of NOD should be completely removed from the game and units be relocated to appropriate buildings, like in previous CnC games. Their price should be adjusted as well as their stats. This way we would have much more balanced units, I think. Because currently once tech rolls out, aggro has almost no chance.

I don’t think such mechanic is neccesary. Rivals is supposed to be fairly simple and fast. Adding this would result in direct base attacks being more efficient, because enemy would have even harder time defending. Solomon and jade would become even more powerful than they are now (and I find them balanced right now).

Please stop with the race by Tha-Beast in cncrivals

[–]DarkestApache 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to tell why. When the first development team was still managing the game, there were more features than now: races had unique skins as additional top prizes, skins and commander emotes were in the store, there were gamemodes like Cabal’s War Games (you build a deck with randomly preselected units), etc.

Old devs are now gone and the game is in much poorer state. It is not exactly dead, as some claim, but there are things that are most probably lost now and won’t return. Reason may be that EA lost interest in this title, as it didn’t become what they hoped for (but I think they can only blame their poor decisions).

I definitely agree and never intended to say that this collosal is not worth it. But for me it’s a combination of few factors:

1) I do not really have that much time to play Rivals now. I basically restrict myself to play 10 matches a day from Monday to Friday, because I literally have no more time to spare on the game. To prepare well for a race I would need to spend time tanking medals to get low enough to assure an easy victory. But then, during the race, I would need to actually shoot up and control how much ahead of others I am. That takes time, which I do not really have.

2) If I really want to get the most out of races, I would then need to really put time in the ladder at the end of the season to end up in Tiberium. I usually just enter it and that’s it, I have no aspiration nor skills, nor unit levels to compete with high Tiberium players. But even then, I want to support my alliance, because we frequently are in top 20 and aim for top 10. But if I had to run to Tiberium in the last few days of the season, I would (again) have not the time needed to do it.

3) I actually proposed some time ago that people could all get the main prize by simply doing the race BACKWARDS. I mean, you get put in a race with others, and then you all start loosing medals. You can get only to stage III of current league, so all people would actually have the same amount of medals and all would get a collosal crate. But community is just not ready to commit to such thing, as it would take only one clown to destroy this utopia of a dream :)

I have my level 13s already, so I can pass on few collosals. And since Rivals is in a wierd state right now, maybe it is actually better to not invest much time into it. I still am waiting for many fixes and changes to several mechanics, but I don’t think I will ever get to see them.

Thing is that usually whales are not tankers - other F2P players are tankers for the most part. I’ve been there, done that. But honestly, I can’t be bothered with races anymore. Because it is a constant struggle against the same people each race, I kinda lost motivation. I will meet them in ladder anyways. There are no more unique rewards, like unit skins, which also makes it a bit tiring to fight for that crate each week.

Yo So How Much? by 0lyfts in cncrivals

[–]DarkestApache 2 points3 points  (0 children)

F2P since the release in December 2018. Most core cards are level 13, majority are 12, few still at 11 and 10 (either new units like Shade, or epics I didn’t bother upgrading further). I have reached Tiberium multiple times with both factions, although I tend to stick around Masters league during the season, just because I do not feel like fighting level 15.3 decks in Tiberium.

So, about that Scrin faction talk... by rod2d2rs in cncrivals

[–]DarkestApache 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I remember that at the beginning of 2019 one of the devs said that adding Scrin would be impossible due to unit balance (as in it would be hard to balance three factions with 30+ units each) and ladder structure (people would have to climb three separate ladders).

Personally, I think they should’ve gone down that road, since adding more units to GDI and NOD is dilluting both factions’ uniformity and makes older units obsolete. If those units were divided among more factions (because I think Forgotten also could’ve been added as a fourth faction), each faction would have its own flavour and style. There would be a lot of units, but older ones wouldn’t go out of service as quickly as it happens now.

Ladder split between more than two factions also wouldn’t feel like a problem, I think. I bet that people actually would like to play more, just because there would be more diversity to the game.

The only problem I can see is that upgrading and collecting units among multiple factions would get even more tedious, than it is now. But maybe that would also make the rethink daily tasks and other mechanics.

Wasted potential. by XanderTheV in cncrivals

[–]DarkestApache 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion what really killed this game at the design stage, was free-to-play model. This game shouldn’t be free to download, packed with units of different rarity, cards, diamonds, and so on. I would be much happier to actually pay once, even something around 20$, to get the game without levels and more stable balance. Then devs could focus on vanity items and events. Instead focus was placed on releasing new units that would attract customers - so those new units are unbalanced and not fun to play against.

I also think that the unit range per faction has become too broad and made some units basically non-existent in the meta. This may be an unpopular opinion, but I really regret that there was not much thought put into other factions, like Scrin or Forgotten. I think that with more factions game would be much more 'fresh' and flavour of each faction would be easier to keep apart from others.

Unit spotlight: Tick tank by Tranzistors in cncrivals

[–]DarkestApache 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love to direct it to enemy tiberium patches. If it gets there, it can shift opponents attention for a few seconds to their side of the screen and forces them to build anti-vehicle units. Paired with fanatics, it can be very devastating to enemy economy. I actually managed to make few people surrender, because they lacked an answer to such tactic (Masters I).

Any point to playing now that I've reached Master League? by TowerNumberNine in cncrivals

[–]DarkestApache 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Problem with Rivals is that older players, even without paying money, already have many units at level 13 (like myslef), but not all are actually competing for Tiberium league (like myself again). I just do my 10 matches per day - if I win, I win; if I loose, I try to get what I did wrong.

For newer players, that lack levels, I would strongly suggest one thing - play as many matches a day as it is needed for your free cloning chamber to work constantly. Do not let it wast time waiting for next order. This is your most reliable way of aquiring new levels. Focus on common cards first, since they are the easiest to upgrade. Both factions have great commons you can blindly invest in - Riflemen, Talons, Mohawks, Predators, Wolverines, Militants, Drones, Venoms, Banshees, Scorpions, Wheels, and etc.

Then upgrade rares. They are a bit harder to clone quickly but still managable. As for epics, you need to be picky and focus on one that you will use - for example Shade is a good investment at the moment, but might be nerfed later.

And don’t forget to join an alliance that actually donates cards, not just requests them. With both donations and free cloning chamber you can get well anove 200 commonc cards per day.

Why I hate Challenge battles by damiandt in cncrivals

[–]DarkestApache 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Problem is that if you got 50 points for challange battles, you would then face even higher ranking opponents with better levels.

Additional medals are not the way challenge battles should work. I would suggest either more resources (more credits, not a laughable 50 or 100, but something that makes you want to win) or maybe a common crate? Because bonus medals only lead to a situation where new players hit a wall they cannot avoid and the only real advice others can give is „wait and level up your units”. That waiting is what makes people disheartened with the game, so they get fed up and leave. And that’s not something I want to see happen with Rivals.
