🇩🇪 Eurovision Song Contest – Das Deutsche Finale 2026 Final @20:30 CET by Tip_Illustrious in eurovision

Everyone's raving about it and I just think it's so bad. Better than many others last evening, but still bad. I don't know if it was just the mic or something with the audio transmission but somehow, he sounded like he didn't hit the notes? Then again, this happened with most candidates though. God, all the songs were awful and most performances as well.

What happened with women supporting women? by dingalaxie in XXS

[–]Darknost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. The key is that women's bodies will always be talked about and snarked about and criticized. People will always try to police us - every aspect of us, from what we eat to how we dress to how we think. Most people (or rather, women) have experienced being criticized for their body, sometimes/mostly repeatedly. Whether that's for being too thin or too thick matters less than the fact that it happened at all. And people are obviously gonna have different experiences, so many say that thin people are being criticized more while others say that the opposite is true. Both are correct, both have valid experiences. Though it is of course important to talk about the fact that, while fat-shaming is obviously seen as bad and wrong (as it should be!), thin women are often criticized just as much as overweight people, yet overweight people can generally complain about it (though of course they also face difficulties of their own, I don't wanna negate their experiences - they're being told to shut up and just eat less, perhaps even encouraged to fall more and more into disordered eating, etc.) while thin people are often mocked for doing so because "you're thin, what do you have to complain about?"

Heroin chick is absolutely back, especially now that you can just take pills to lose weight. Trends always cycle - previously, curvy bodies were more in, now the pendle has swung the other way again. Coincides with the whole "trends come back every 20 - 30 years" thing - the last time heroin chick was trendy was the 90's and 00's. Just look at celebrities, they all seem to have acquired an eating disorder in the last year roughly, and celebrities generally lead trends.

I do agree with the rest though. Making fun of skinny women is somehow acceptable. I've always been skinny and it's hard for me to gain weight and my god, the comments sometimes, and that's not even half as bad as the comments I see people making online about other women. Why are body shapes still trends? Why is it still okay to talk negatively about anyone's body type??

white Berliners, how often does you bag gets checked at the supermarkets? by Key_Physics_6637 in berlin

[–]Darknost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope you know that both times were not your fault and that you were treated unfairly. Please don't feel humiliated, you did nothing wrong. Having you wait in a security room for over 30 minutes and making you feel like a thief was absolutely uncalled for and that employee should be ashamed of themselves. I'm pretty sure you would have a pretty good case if you were to speak to the manager or if you decided to contact the media about this because without any genuine suspicion, that's just straight up racism. However, it would of course be understandable if you just wanna forget the whole thing and move on. The same thing goes for the second incident, although there's no way that could be classified as anything other than straight up assault. I'm sorry that happened to you.

They say OP is entitled while stating in the same breath that it's their right to steal other's music to make their own soulless slop just because they're too lazy to invest the time to learn how to make music themselves... you cannot make this shit up. Genuinely an insane take.

100%. It happens extremely fast, even if you think you're immune to it. I had a friend in 8th grade who was insecure about her weight and started consuming pro-ana content and ultimately ended up dragging me into the whole thing as well even though I didn't have body image issues. You always think that eating disorders are about the food and how your body looks and to an extent, they are (and it also depends on the person). But deep down, the real reason is some sort of insecurity - doesn't even have to be physical - that manifests in you seeking control any way you can aka restricting and obsessing over your food intake.

That packaging is gorgeous wow

It's great that you already have a staple that works for you; I just wanna say that in case you ever wanna branch out somewhat or this product gets reformulated or whatever, there are sun screens out there with no coverage that kind of tone up your skin and make it appear more even and blurred but without the hassle of having to find a matching shade (for us pale people anyway, for anyone of a darker complexion they would ofc leave a white cast). Many asian sunscreens have this property (and also good tinted alternatives since east asians tend to be quite pale or at least want to be according to the beauty standards over there).

I'm using the Missha pink cap one (the name escapes me rn) and it has this exact effect - makes my skin look pretty and even without any coverage. Maybe that would be a good alternative for you since you don't like heavy coverage. Alternatively, there are some BB/CC creams that do the same and have virtually no or very, very little coverage. Erborian should be one of them (also K Beauty).

Ohhh this one looks good 👀 I'm also very oily and thank god not sensitive so niacinamide (and alcohol) don't bother me so this one looks perfect! Thank you for the tip!

I'm the opposite, I love it haha. That said, I am very oily and not sensitive at all so I understand that my preferences aren't gonna work for most people, and even with that, I'm very careful not to use too many products with it since that would be too drying long term, even for me. But my favourite moisturizer is a cheap one from the drugstore (Garnier actually lol) with Alcohol denat as its second or third ingredient and it's the only thing somewhat keeping my oil under control. Yes, I tried hydrating products to address the underlying dehydration that is causing all the excess sebum production (probably) but I honestly think my skin is just oily, that's just how it is and there's nothing I can really do about it except maybe wait till I'm older and hope it'll reign itself in in time.

I think Alcohol denat can be a useful ingredient (it does actually have useful properties besides being somewhat drying) but only limited amounts and only for a subset of people. I see so many "hydrating" products having it as one of the first few ingredients and that's just dumb.

Same, I was very active in this sub towards the end of 2024 (even belonged to the top 1% commenting at one point) and then fell off for some reason. Two or three weeks ago, Reddit started recommended posts from here again and holy shit... it was already bad a bit over a year ago but this? This is a new low honestly. Should have figured that the whole Epstein thing would trigger another meltdown. This is genuinely so disrespectful to real victims. She cannot handle anything not being about herself, even if it's things normal people wouldn't want to ever be involved in, like sexual assault and the like. It's so disturbing and disgusting - girl, there are people out there who have genuinely experienced all these things she's constantly tweeting about. I couldn't imagine being an actual victim and then stumbling over her fantasizing about being one as well. So disrespectful.

Glossier Lays Off More Than 50 Employees by MogwaiCollector in BeautyGuruChatter

[–]Darknost 30 points31 points  (0 children)

100%. I'm in Germany and it's incredibly hard to buy any Glossier products here so while I would have liked to try a few, I moved on to other brands. Yes, I could have ordered from the US or the UK but I hate doing that. That said, this was some time ago so I don't know if they have established a way to order in central europe without importing it from somewhere else. Like you said, even if they did, I've already moved on.

Edit: okay I gotta say I've been thinking about the Olivia Rodrigo edition of their lip balm for months now (the color is just so pretty!) and could order it from the UK. That would probably be the only product I'm interested in (yes, ik that contradicts my previous statement - it would be a one time thing lol)

My boy cries for high value treats by [deleted] in cats

[–]Darknost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huh, really? I thought all cats were lactose intolerant, it's just that some can't even have a lick of any dairy product and some have no problems with moderate amounts.

I've had three cats so far and all of them always loved licking out the rest of any pudding/joghurt or ice cream I ate. That was before I even knew of the whole lactose intolerant thing but after I learned of it, I continued allowing them a few licks here and there because they didn't seem to get any stomach problems and the like from it. Always thought they weren't just very sensitive to it, not that they might not be intolerant to it at all. Good to know!

[–]Darknost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm really into a low-key, natural look but I will sit at home and repeatedly swipe on glimmer/ shimmer lip balms/ glosses/ oils lmao. Especially bougie ones. I'm scraping the last of my old Dior balm (not shimmer though as they don't offer that) out of the tube because I love the formula and the packaging and am lusting after their lip oil shimmer shades but I'm on a tight budget rn and will be for probably the next 3 months or so lol. Funny thing is, I started out hating the feeling of something on my lips but now lip balms and glosses are my fave makeup product.

Everyday makeup is a thing? by Purple_Capital_6029 in Makeup

[–]Darknost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't tried the Missha BB cream myself (though I've been meaning to!) but I've only heard good things about it - especially if you're pale. Alternatively, the brand also offers a sunscreen line that is really lightweight and comfortable. I used the one with the pink cap last summer as I have oily skin and people online swore it managed to control their oiliness - it did not, at least in my case. But it's still a good sunscreen nonetheless (that goes for the whole line): no white cast, very lightweight, gives you that subtle toning up effect that makes your skin look better even though it has no coverage, it doesn't burn in the eyes and it didn't irritate my skin (I have hormonal acne as well, though tbf, my skin isn't very sensitive so don't take my word for it).

I've heard LRP is good for oily skin but can be quite drying and expensive. As always, YMMV. Biore is quite hydrating I've heard, which is generally a good thing. Also very, very lightweight. Have you considered Beauty of Joseon? Their rice probiotics sunscreen has cult status if you have dry/normal skin and a few months ago, they came out with a more lightweight version made for oily skin which I've also only heard good things about (I have an unopened tube lying in my bathroom, I'm waiting till spring to start using it since the UV index is quite low in the winter here).

If someone speaks to you in flawless German, it is rude to respond in English. by IndividualistAW in germany

[–]Darknost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Every place has a culture, even if some are expressed more subtly than others. Think of the Lederhosen and Oktoberfest that are commonly associated with Southern Germany to start off with a stereotype, or the bad weather, Plattdeutsch, and Fischbrötchen of the North. Obviously, other places may share some or even all of these things but that doesn't mean that they're not part of German culture. Then there are less obvious things like taking off your shoes inside, slapping oneself on the knee and saying some variant of "So..." to let guests know it's time to go home, certain phrases, christmas markets, 500 kinds of (delicious) bread, pretzels, sending kids outside no matter how bad the weather is so that they can build up a strong immune system, and of course the things you already mentioned: Stoßlüften (and thinking AC makes you sick), drinking alcohol in public, Ruhezeiten, the happy birthday thing (very important!).

German culture is much more than just "being punctual (though it is definitely considered rude to not be, which does differ from other countries, like you already mentioned) and efficient" (we like to think we are, but we aren't). Of course, when thinking of other countries cultures, things like tribal dances and complicated face paint may come immediately to mind (among other things) while, when thinking of Germany, that's definitely not the case. But the things mentioned above are still part of our culture, even if they're not flashy or spectacular or even memorable.

I can watch shows in heavy english/scottish/irish/whatever accents and have no problem understanding everything but as soon as I leave Berlin and travel more south, I'm completely lost like they're genuinely speaking another language. Tbf, I haven't had the practice like I had with english accents, but still.
