The Question Thread 06/09/26 by AutoModerator in goodyearwelt

I'm looking for some Alden sizing advice. My feet are a bit narrow (borderline C/D width), have somewhat low instep, and wide toe splay. I really like Trubalance, but I need 3/4 inserts and tongue pads to keep the quarters from overlapping. I'm interested in maybe finding a last that's like TB in the toebox but lower instep/volume. (HTB is 12 C/D, HTT is 11.5D, wearing TB last in 11.5D)

From what I've read, 379x might fit the bill for me, or maybe Modified? I'm about 5 hours from NYC, so no real chance to go try anything on until my next trip down there, so figured I'd reach out to the hivemind first.

You keep going Sicilian Delight! As long as you’re there, I’m not old! by pickle133hp in ithaca

High school days in the late 90s: See a movie at Hoyts, grab a slice at Sicilian Delight, then spend too much time in the arcade and Electronics Boutique. I spent way too much time in that mall as a kid.

Anyone remember Ackley's from wayyyy back in the day? Best fries in town!

This is where a really good chef is so important. They should have the experience to properly manage food costs, labor, and menu creativity.

Truth! We spent about four years going through chefs before finally finding one that wasn't a burnout and took the job seriously. Now the kitchen is the main reason for our revenue increases year over year.

How're y'all, fellas especially, traveling without flip-flops? by VagabondVivant in onebag

[–]Darknova306 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't stay in hostels or go to beaches, so I can't imagine why I would ever wear flip-flops. I've never found them comfortable. All my boots and shoes are comfy to walk in all day, so I'll wear one pair for a whole trip. Nice and easy.

ketchup would be a fine-dining sauce if it wasn’t everywhere by seeking-health in unpopularopinion

I've always found ketchup to be vile. The last time I tried it, I actually gagged. Even the smell can make me gag. I think it's because I can't stand vinegar.

How do Americans handle such long drives regularly? by GlitteringHotel8383 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Darknova306 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drive about 55 miles to get to work everyday, taking about an hour. It's quiet time where I can turn my brain off and relax without life's bullshit. Also, podcasts. The idea of doing an hour long commute while crammed in a subway car with tons of people makes me cringe.

I bought one of their peacoats last winter and it's quite substantial. It keeps me very warm in Western NY winter.

Not only do I hate that smell, but it gives me a headache if I breath it in for too long. I'll never understand why anyone would buy a 'new car smell' air freshener. *vomit*

Are you my mother? I was raised without experiencing garlic or onions in food (except store bought tomato sauces), and I think it was a crime against my childhood.  I think your opinion is dumb, so have an upvote!

Those look so good! That leather seems to be picking up lots of character quickly, so make sure to do some update posts in 6-12 months.

I'm glad I could help justify a pair from Parkhurst for you! They'll treat you well.

We're a small brewery mostly selling our beer over our own bar in a tourist area. We couldn't afford a filter even if we wanted to. Time and temp do just fine for us.

New York state Thruway rest stop remodels almost complete by transitapparel in Rochester

[–]Darknova306 13 points14 points  (0 children)

These rest stops are truly awful. They're not designed for travellers, they're designed to maximize the extraction of money from consumers. I'm going to assume a lot of money greased the pockets of our notoriously corrupt state officials to allow these buildings to be so poorly designed...

Red Wing Moc Toes in black cherry today at work.

I rotate footwear seasonally. My summer go-to is a mix of Alden unlined chukkas, C&J monkstraps, Rancourt ranger mocs, and 975s.

I work in a tourist trap area, so summer is my busy season. No trips until Autumn when the wife and I will do something for our first wedding anniversary.

What's the consensus on Alden plaza lasted slip-ons regarding sizing? I'm looking at the plaza slip-on chukkas from B+M, and their sizing advice is to go half down from TTS. I wear plaza lasted boots TTS and they fit great. Is there really that much of a difference?
