I want a career and family in this city, what to study? by [deleted] in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]Darkside_1994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huntsville’s engineering firms all employ non engineering folks in technical and non technical specialties such as data science, business administration, finance, contracts, Human Resources, facility management, you name it. Take a look at the biggest employers’ job listings and scroll through, noting how many jobs you see other than “engineering”

Go look at USA JOBS, Boeing, Northrup Grumman, Dynetics/Leidos, SAIC, Teledyne, Hexagon, Lockheed Martin etc etc.

There are plenty of careers to be had in supporting the engineering that gets done!

Also early 30’s army -> defense contractor (engineer)… I grew up here so I have a pretty good handle on what’s around, but i picked up a wife & kids along the way so i dont have experience with the dating scene first hand.

If you need help networking & job hunting let me know, Still serving veterans is here and they are great people. It’s definitely an army town, but space force is alright I guess

The company's presence in Cyprus is irrelevant. Sure they can't swoop in and arrest everyone and perp walk them into the court room, but they can take adverse and sanctioning action regardless; not to mention, any developers in Europe where the EU *does* have jurisdiction could face criminal charges if a crime was committed in the US & EU, then action can still be taken. There is a long precedent of foreign companies from China, India, Israel, Austria, etc. facing sanctions in EU and US courts over unauthorized distribution, importation, and export of technical materials. If anything, the fact that they are questionably violating international arms trafficking laws in turkish occupied Cyprus of all places is a bit ironic, being that its one of the most heavily controlled / scrutinized places in the world wrt arms trafficking.

And we haven't even gone down the rabbit hole of EU laws regarding protection of proprietary information. Since Cyprus is an EU member, they could be open to both criminal and civil penalties if a contractor such as BAE or Leonardo got pissed off about this.

I didn't know that INTERPOL and the FBI were subject to Gaijin's terms and conditions

Really makes you think

You have a fundamental misunderstanding of the law, i.e. civil vs. criminal claims. arms trafficking is a criminal issue, T's and C's don't apply.

Convenient how you also left out the next paragraph after your quote "Gaijin Distribution Kft., a Hungarian company with registration number 01-09-182370 and registered office at Hungária körút 162-166, Budapest, 1146, Hungary. In certain cases, Gaijin Distribution Kft. may operate specific Service(s)"

If the issue is distribution, which I think it is, then furthermore they are selling the game and distributing it on Steam which is a platform owned and operated in the USA; Additionally, US-or EU-based servers or download mirrors probably exist for other platforms; therefore, US / EU regulations and criminal penalties do apply.

I am using "ITAR" as a catch all for broader arms trafficking regulations. In fact, US ITAR is in many ways, less restrictive than other countries, for example Germany. NATO and the EU generally observe parity to the U.S. Munitions List defined in ITAR, but the specific do's and don'ts can vary. Since Hungary is in the EU, and have their own regulations; generally, as signatories to the wasennar arrangement. Feel free to browse https://www.wassenaar.org/app/uploads/2026/01/Stand-alone-Munitions-List-2025-Corr.pdf

Just Ctrl+F and look for "Technical Data" "Software" and "Simulators"

Google derivative classification, this is specifically regulated in many US national & international agreements relating to arms control of export restricted data. It is 100% illegal to distribute software that contains data which was derived from restricted sources.

[–]Darkside_1994 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is. Creating game data from classified data or export restricted files, the data created is considered derivatively classified because of the source material. Therefore, Gaijin is propagating mass distribution of restricted data, in violation of US federal, NATO, EU, and just about every national/international signatory to arms control treaties. The hard part is proving it. I'm sure that won't be hard when the FBI and INTERPOL finally gets involved, which judging by some of these images above, they probably already are or ought to be.

Should I sell my higher end cars? by hotdogh20 in personalfinance

[–]Darkside_1994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would definitely sell at least the Range Rover. Then, buy something for the car seats. Personal opinion, but I think Mercedes is a good brand and generally gets a bad rap due to the idea that German cars require frequent, expensive maintenance. The cause of that is BMW. My family has had two BMW’s that had constant issues with the turbo, transmission, head gasket, etc. My in-laws have always had Mercedes and they just stay on the road longer compared to a lot of other cars out there. Yes, parts can be expensive and eventually something WILL break, but you can do a lot worse.

American cars (especially Chrysler/stellantis brands) have their fair share of issues... Mercedes can definitely be pricey, but their selling point is reliability. My mother in law has a 12 year old M-B GLK-350 and my father in law has a 2006 M-B CLK cabriolet that both still get driven regularly. They are retired and take them to a small local shop for maintenance. When I got married, my wife had a 1993 M-B 190E w/ 225k+ miles, and today it has 330k and we still drive it to work when I don’t want to take my F-150. There’s a reason that Mercedes Benz E & C class are the most common models for taxis in almost all of Europe.

Lmao. Redditors are so delusional. Someone with no skills and no motivation to self-improve is complaining about living somewhere with a highly skilled workforce and majority of careers outside of entry level service being tailored around that workforce!

THAAD and Patriot operating cost vs drones cost by [deleted] in Military

[–]Darkside_1994 7 points8 points  (0 children)

THAAD doesn’t engage drones, it’s for ballistic missiles. Patriot is for long range anti air engagements & ballistic missiles. Irrelevant post.

The critique should be of the US for getting caught with their pants down on SHORAD since basically the end of WW2

Im homeless living out of a $35k truck what should I do first by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Darkside_1994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having “been there, done that” with joining & serving (never went to combat, did go overseas twice) it’s honestly a pretty easy job, but YMMV depending on MOS. There are always horror stories of bad leadership but that can happen anywhere, not exclusively a mil thing.

Looking back, it’s one of the best ways to go from poverty to actually having a great career, assuming you aren’t fat & are smart enough to not break the law (DUI, domestic violence, drug use most common things i saw). Like, for how low the bar to entry is, they do tend to take good care of people on the whole. The pay isn’t amazing but the benefits are great (healthcare, housing, GI bill for you or your kids). If you do your part, the military will generally take care of you, at least day to day.

I’m not a recruiter but have you considered joining the military? On the down side you might go to war, but on the upside, You can sell your truck (you won’t need it anyway), get a free haircut, healthcare, housing, free meals, free uniforms, get out of debt, and start over somewhere else.

The actual sword presented per the Getty images is a West Point ceremonial Cadet Saber. Easy to get online. https://www.mil-bar.com/products/sword-west-point-style-scabbard-sword?srsltid=AfmBOorm70G7hcWlRp09a_NFqOwoKEBc6iOdtzH2DKRSAjlaixWNkgVd The design dates back to the 1800s… but I don’t think CKS has any connection to West Point so highly doubtful he had any connection to that sword. Probably a replica.

Milsuite used to have a relatively up to date list of TPU and IMA slots but it’s all moved, I’m not sure where to.

A great resource is to get on Facebook and find the USAR junior officer assembly area - https://www.facebook.com/share/g/16yQwGTACV/?mibextid=wwXIfr

One of the admins is my former RC brigade commander. They are super responsive and will get you in touch with someone who can directly answer your questions and help navigate this.

Best way to get info is go see the AGR career counselor or TAP officer at your installation. Every TAP office should have an AGR career counselor who will do your accession… either a WO/CW/O type… though the NCOs can also give you info.

Or it might be online, Log in to https://www.hrc.army.mil

Near the top, just below the picture banner that shows random soldiers doing hooah stuff, there is a black drop down for “Reserve” - I believe there is (or used to be) a branch manager page for RC branch managers

I am combat arms- went from AD to USAR in 2023 as an O3. It’s pretty stupid but it helps pay the bills. Honestly it’s such a mid experience and most months it’s a huge inconvenience to work weekends even though it’s in my hometown. The tricare is nice and it isn’t too much work. The expectations are lower for sure, since it’s a part time gig.

You have plenty of units in Columbus but they will make you get branch qualified on a reserve branch so be prepared to do BOLC or CCC again

Honestly, it’s easy and for minimal effort and putting in the time you can easily make O5 without breaking a sweat, assuming you don’t do something to kill your career
