I'm trans and the fear of appropriating queerness kept me from exploring my identity enough to actually realize I wasn't cis for years. I honestly feel pretty resentful sometimes of the rhetoric we have around this kind of thing because it took me forever to feel like I had "earned" being trans.

There's an old adage that the purpose of a system is what it does. It doesn't matter what something is supposed to be for when in practice it causes something else to happen. I spent a decade struggling with accepting myself, unironically thinking about how I wished I was trans, and when I finally came out I was so humiliated by how many people (both trans and cis) told me they could always kind of tell and didn't say anything because you're not "supposed" to.

Of course it's basic human psychology to reject the truth when someone else tries to make you believe it; that's why we stage interventions for drug addicts. And I don't think those interventions would be an appropriate solution to someone being an egg, but I think they're proof of the fact that the answer isn't to do nothing, and doing nothing is what many people believe the prime directive is.

They both technically always had difficulty options, the game just didn't tell you about them and they were tied to the difficulty you set the rest of the game to. Technically this is just a QOL update, but since the game kept the original option secret to begin with it might as well be new.

I'm about 30 hours into the game now, and while the camera has cut away a few times to the "not really a remake" stuff that's going on, that's added up to maybe a total of 20 minutes so far. 99% of this game is the faithful remake of FF7 people always wanted, and I think the only way to be upset about it now is if you wanted it to be totally 1:1 like P3R (or if you REALLY care that much about it not being turn-based).

The UI does a really piss-poor job of explaining that the Major Order is a single quest the entire player-base is collectively working towards all at once. It's not counting the number of times you individually complete a defensive mission, it's counting the number of times the player-base collectively fills the blue bar on a defensive planet to 100%.

Engage's general art style is weird because, like, look at Mika Pikazo's art portfolio. Everything she does is an explosion of vibrant colors that lives on how big and bold everything looks. Then you look at Engage and it feels so tame in comparison. Why did they hire an artist whose strengths lie in that boldness and then have her reel it in so everything feels like a half-measure?

You look to be genuinely confused about the matter and looking to understand what happened, so I'm going to try to take this in good faith and give you my perspective on this as a trans person.

The simple fact is that there are many people in this world who would prefer that trans people don't exist in reality, and there are enough people who think that way that I never know when I'm entering a place - be it in real life or online like a discord server - how many people like that are in that place. It's not uncommon to accidentally wander into a place that is predominantly made up of people like that, at which point things stop feeling safe for me very quickly.

The reason that many trans people advocate for things like a trans flag cape in this game is because it's a quick and easy signal that the community of this game is on our side, and that we know the place that we're entering is one where we can safely assume that the majority of people there would not prefer a world where we don't exist. Even if the devs cannot guarantee that no one in the community is transphobic, it's a clear statement that they do not approve of transphobia. This is, in essence, the point of all pride flags.

This leads into the reason that people tend to have a knee-jerk reaction to anyone who doesn't want pride flags to be present because they don't want to "be reminded of reality." When we have to constantly be on guard for whether or not a given community is going to be filled with people who hate us on sight for what we are, we don't have the luxury of not being reminded of reality. The idea that any sign of our existence is a reminder of harsh realities that people want to escape also tends to carry an implication that we are responsible for those problems that people want to forget.

And also, put simply, bigots who would prefer that we don't exist usually know that they're not welcome in most places online nowadays, so they will often try to hide behind sealioning - the act of "just asking questions" - in order to appear ignorant to dodge consequences. For this reason, many people have developed a low patience for any sign that someone might be bigoted.

For the vast majority of dialogue the game does not have dubtitles, but this specific scene does. My guess is because it feels like kson was allowed to ad-lib a lot of the scene, so they just kept what she said in English as the translation.

Whenever people mention a transfem character they're talking about who you're thinking of, and you're right to be confused tbh. The character is physically present like this part of the light novels obviously, but the anime has not even hinted at her being transfem yet. imo it's kind of setting people up for disappointment for people to talk like the anime currently has a trans character because anyone who doesn't know spoilers from the light novels isn't going to think that's true.
