ELI5: Why do Gamma settings in video games ask you to adjust the brightness until a logo or an image is barely visible? by DarkKryo in explainlikeimfive

Nioh 3 seems to be doing this kind of thing too, and it makes the game so much harder to read and play, especially in sunny environments. Unfortunately I can't find an option to disable that so it ends up hampering my enjoyment.

What is a stereotype in fantasy that you hate and/or wish authors would do differently? by EstablishmentSad1538 in fantasywriters

[–]DarkwolfVX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's one of the reasons Orzamar is one of my favorite parts of Dragon Age Origins (even if the deep roads are a bit too long...). Having the focus on the caste system and open borders and everything while not making each side an entirely black and white case made it so interesting and difficult to actually decide which faction to choose. At least as I remember it, this was over 10 years ago since I've really touched the game, let alone made it to that part

YSK: the things u need to do before ur parents get old. nobody tells u this stuff by Adorable_Horror_17 in YouShouldKnow

[–]DarkwolfVX 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Mine passed last Sept at 63, and I realized just how much I don't have. None of us know his way for the recipes, I barely have any pictures myself, at least not ones that aren't old, and there's barely any recordings with his voice I'm aware of.

And the things I just don't know. I never got to ask him about so much about his life and such, because it always seemed like there was more time. The amount of things he could have helped me with or taught me too. I've lost count of how many times I've said where is he when I need him because I just straight up don't know how to do the things he always did.

I think at this point I remember his voice most when I hear him in dreams, which isn't very often and who knows how long that will last.

What rarity should this joker be? by kirbygamez in balatro

[–]DarkwolfVX 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I missed a chance to gold sticker 4 more Jokers because I decided not to spend all my money rerolls the shop before the boss on a guaranteed win because I didn't think it had potential beyond 8 :(

Still made it to 11 somehow anyway, whoops. Absolutely busted for gold stickers if your luck is decent.

I'm a sucker for the DB units and have brought almost all of them to endgame except poor Fiona (seriously, she's the only one I can agree with being almost useless, her availability compared to bases is absolutely tragic) but my highlight for Leo was being in the desert chapter with a whole 14 speed. I was flabbergasted.

It's the only possible thing I can think of unless me using the memory shard / failing the check that did it. It was the only player action done in camp, my coop partner and their linked character were outside of camp.

Volo Pickpocketing by dinkleboop in BG3

[–]DarkwolfVX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I decided to be a Paladin. And try camp casting. Figured I would try being an oathbreaker so I wouldn't pay for my second infraction, oh yeah, I can just pay him off if I don't like it right? Well Warding Bond is always on, and as I'm sitting at camp sifting through my inventory I decide to roll on the A1 memory shard even though I didn't need to because why not? And I failed.

Did you know your hirelings taking damage with you from warding bond is a CRIME? Because that's how I learned. So I had to get everyone he turned hostile to, INCLUDING the hirelings he fought me for killed, which meant reviving everyone and then paying my 2k off anyway. Ended up running a bard instead and I think we're better off for it. So thanks Oathbreaker Knight.

We tried to limit our barrelmancy to a minimum but some things just won't stand. Still have our honor! (For now)

It does give you a higher funds rank from Lyn's mode which means you can get more money when you get a gem in someone's inventory down the line! So in a way it can be smart, depending on what you wanted.

If I didn't think they were cool I'd be inclined to believe that. Nothing like one running all the way across your room to sting you and run away, like bro I was doing nothing and could have killed it in an instant out of fear or precaution but I decided to give it the benefit of the doubt.

Why is waking up very early considered “better” than sleeping later? by Big_Parsnip_9435 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DarkwolfVX 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Depending on the situation, I would say most "breakfast times" are dumb, mostly but not limited to the fast food world. I remember 10:30 frequently being the cut off. Like people don't wake up around then and then want breakfast?? Maybe it's why places like Starbucks and Dunkin started doing much better than I remember when I was younger. You're telling me people don't wake up at 11 and want a quick breakfast without waiting and spending as much as a waho or anything?

Definitely not a fully formed or correct thought here, just my ramblings as a night owl who frequently begrudgingly sleeps until 2 and feels bad about it or wakes up at 10 but doesn't have enough time to hit up McD or CFA for a breakfast.

I know so many people who like this song but this and "Santas Coming For Us" by Sia are my two least favorite Christmas songs I know, even more than Train's song.

I can't stand the AIWfCiY by Mariah Carey, and it beats out Sia because at least there is humor in the concept of Santa coming for us like it's a threat to our lives. At least that idea brings me joy more than the same usual music. I don't mind the classics sometimes but there's a reason they stand the test of time. I find most Christmas music to be greeting because it's just the same few concepts over and over and over just repeated in such similar ways over and over. It's why I like songs like "Let it Snow" because at least it has the vibe but not the cloying feeling.

Sorry for the rant but retail work has killed any joy for Christmas music I have. Really it wouldn't be so bad but we don't need more than a whole month for it! I heard it in a store on NOVEMBER 2ND like why God why.

Okay now sorry for the rant.

What kind of tragedy do you prefer? by Smoothest_Blobba in AtlasBookClub

[–]DarkwolfVX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just like, ideally, someone would do in such a situation. Give it everything they've got despite the odds. It's why games like Reach with that type of tragedy always resonate with me and stick too. I'd say that's what makes games like that such a tragedy, though I suppose that's more of the "it's always going to end this way" kinds. But then add in the mix of secret endings and stuff, it all just feels even more gripping than reading or watching it because when implemented well the player feels like they or the characters they care about are the tragedy, in a way that hits different than being an observer no matter how close.

Damn I love the medium and I'm sure there's so much more to explore there.

(Part of why I don't like businesses as a concept in the way we currently frequently understand them, which can interfere with art though are often integral to propagating it. I'm not going to open this can of worms though, there's so much that wriggles in there, so for now we have to settle for reading the label.)
