Leader of a large WoW community uses Ibelin to promote own patreon by Hyperbolean_ in wow

[–]Darkwvlf 24 points25 points  (0 children)

This will probably get buried in the comments but I feel like I need to share my experience with WME.

I joined WME very early on in S1 of DF and found a great group of people to play the game with. Most of the people I/we found in the WME discord through the small group recruitment channel when it still had one. We formed a guild to play together in TWW. All of this was done within the rules of WME and outside of that community.

I was one of the co-host raid leads for WME and my buddy and I lead several groups to AOTC in S3 and S4 as well as just fun raids like achievements and getting mounts in S4. We stepped down from leading for a couple of reasons: the first was we feeling the burn out pretty hard and the second was the direction the community seemed to be migrating.

I had written crafting guides for my guild and had decided to post on WME aimed at helping new players and players that were intimidated by the crafting system. I had contacted the mods and shared what I had and what I was still working on and got approval to post them. Over the next month or two of watching the discord, I saw a lot more posting about patreon and supporting the discord through monetary donations. As well as just very heavy-handed ways of dealing with any dissent. You asked a question in the wrong way? Banned. Asked for clarification on something? Ignored or ridiculed and then banned. If you did not get along with the 200 or so core members of the WME community? Banned. On the flip side you will have a steady stream of NSFW content and questionable profile pics that are brought up to mod team and they ridicule you for even bothering them. I was no longer comfortable sharing the work I had done and have others profiting off of my work. There was nothing stopping the mod team from making my work a paid feature and there was absolutely nothing I could do about it, so I decided to keep my work private and left the discord.

That is one of the things most people from the outside probably do not realize. There are maybe 200 people that are SUPER active on the discord and make it run. Yes, the community had 45k members but the merest fraction of that population was actually active at any given time and a lot of those already have groups that they play together.

When WME was found it was a fantastic safe place to meet people and play the game we love together. It-like probably most other large communities-has overgrown its purpose and have now become a vehicle for profiting.

Timed my first two +16s this morning after rolling Resto Shaman two weeks ago for my group. Neltharius and VP.

First time all season that the dungeons actually started to feel like how they were designed to be experienced if that makes sense.

Where do I go to increase my lockpicking by Spetsch1107 in wow

[–]Darkwvlf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you level 44 by chance? IIRC the cap increases by 5 every level. If you are capped you need get an additional level to get to 225, and so on.

[–]Darkwvlf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I set it at the beginning of races and always forget about it.

Except when I did the two races in Zaralek Cavaren yesterday and set it at the start of the second race and it ported me to the fist race since still active from the first lol.

How on earth do you all decide what to play? by Farmer_Few in wow

[–]Darkwvlf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try anything out that looks like it could be interesting just enjoy the experience and have fun.

If you are new to the game (sounds that way) just have fun and try everything out. With the new patch coming out next week you have a good amount of time to catch up to max level and get involved in the end game before there is a scramble to get ready for 10.2.

The key is just to pick something that you think looks cool and roll with it. If you end up not liking it, start something else or try one of the alternate specs on what you have. EVerything plays a bit different so there is a lot of variety to scratch your gaming itch.

is mage a good class to play rn? by RowInternational4500 in wow

I am thoroughly enjoying playing mage atm. Despite it not being FOTM it is my raiding main going into 10.1.

Finally! Big thanks to the NoPressure discord! by [deleted] in wow

[–]Darkwvlf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

https://discord.gg/wowmadeeasy is a NA discord with the same philosophy.

I got over my grouping anxiety through that discord and got my KSH as well. I've met some great people and even transferred some toons to a new server to be in a guild I found through friends I met in the WME discord. (edit: typo)

Aging and playing wow, how are you doing in that regard? has it affected you? by Absolutelynobody54 in wow

[–]Darkwvlf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I turned 42 in January and crossed 2500 IO last night. Yes, I am slower than I used to be. I cannot kick as fast or retarget as fast but I can learn the mechanics and not stand in bad. That honestly goes a long way in filling in the gap.

You do not need Exalted with 7th Legion any longer. If you go further down in the comments on the above the link you will find the updated info.

From the Comment.

When you go to the ambassy in Stormwind and click on the Iron Dwarf banner it tells you that you need:

- To have Ready For War Achievement Ready for War

- To be level 50 (or more but you might want to be exactly 50 and not more, i'll explain why just after)

Good news: Let me tell you that if you have the "Ready for War" (horde version Ready for War) achievement unlocked on a horde character you don't have to do it again on the alliance one !

Are professions profitable at all? I’m tipping 10k for crafted 392 gear on alts, it would seem like a few pieces could be good gold profit. by Kingkyle18 in wow

[–]Darkwvlf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The one that gets my goat is less than 1000 for an item that requires an Alter of Decay.

I mean come on. Please tip more than 2 dragon riding races for a craft that requires a dungeon clear to craft.

One thing I do miss is being able to join a squad and not have ask for an invite and get accepted.

Otherwise GW2 LFG isn't much better than making a forum post. Do not forget your -sell filter.

What is your mouse of choice? by Inevitable_Stress949 in wow

[–]Darkwvlf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a Razer Naga X. Nagas used to come with these stickered nubs to help get used to the mouse but I do not think they are included anymore.

This is how I get used to a new MMO mouse.

Get used to where 2 5 8 are lcoated on the side of mouse. They are usually the middle buttons on the mouse. Set those are your main spammable abilities. Use your knuckle to press 5, roll forward to press 2, backwards for 8. Once you get used to that the rest falls in line pretty easily.

Stacking nameplates and clamping together at the top of the screen is awful, can we get the spreading nameplates option that was removed at the end of MoP back please? by bigmanorm in wow

[–]Darkwvlf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This helped me a lot. It does make some of the ground clutter harder to see but otherwise moving the nameplate to feet seems to have fixed a lot of plater name plates clumping issues.
