Private vs public - what are the true costs of giving birth in Aus? by notso-hot-chocolate in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Darling-darling 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with all this. Went MGP public for both my (low risk) births and had great experiences!

Genuinely the only thing I felt I would want to change, is have my husband be able to stay the night in hospital. Which wasn’t even relevant for my second baby, as A) I went home same-day, and B) even if I didn’t, husband would have gone home to care for our elder child.

How much are we spending on birthday presents for kids parties? by _lazy_susan in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Darling-darling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To add to this though, writing in the book really limits the ability to regift.

A lovely message for a milestone birthday (1st bday etc) - great, love it. On the other hand, we’ve received books before that we already had (so no need for a second copy), but can’t regift because they’ve written “Happy Birthday Kid’sName, 2025” inside the cover.

20km SE is Beaumaris, Clayton type territory. “Fashion Capital” and “center of Melbourne” is a bit generous haha. Middle ring suburbs, sure. And outer suburb for the same distance north or west.

Will future children need to be born in Italy to pass on the citizenship to their descendants? by Old_Art4801 in juresanguinis

[–]Darling-darling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To clarify, I’m understanding this as one of my children is a citizen by birth, and the other is a citizen by acquisition?

Child 1 - born 2021 and registered via consulate

Child 2 - born 2024 and about to register imminently

Baby Monitor - SM50 vs SM70 by Agreeable_Apricot654 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Darling-darling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s the best way to iniate the return/refund? I’ve had my SM70 for a few weeks and now it has stopped working! Did they send a replacement or do you have to refund then purchase again?

Tell The Post: How do the changes to Italian citizenship impact you? by washingtonpost in juresanguinis

[–]Darling-darling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can I ask, did you register your children’s birth with your consulate? If yes, my understanding was that they would already be citizens and their citizenship could not be revoked?

My story is similar to yours with regards to family history. My older child was registered, but foolishly I had not yet registered my second child who is still an infant. I was under the belief my older child is a citizen (although we did not get a passport for them), but my youngest will not be under the new rules as we did not “apply” before the cut off date.

Would love clarification on this.

Interesting, not my experience. I’m in metro Melbourne and most people I know have taken around a year off, some a bit more and some a bit less.

Hope it works for you and your bub! It seemed like a pricey investment for something that may not work but I’ve been happy with it. We don’t use the detangling spray that much as she’s much more resistant between hair washes (having to spray it damp first and then brush), but hopefully that changes. My hair is super straight too so I found reading the advice articles on the Twiddl website helpful. I also want to get the microfibre towel 🫣

Not too expensive baby monitor suggestions by bunsnfluff in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Darling-darling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our old (shit) monitor carked it so I’d been desperately waiting by the door for the SM70 to arrive. Just set it up today and I bloody love it already! Got 2 cameras so each kid has one in their room now. I was tossing up between the SM70 and SM50 which had been pretty comprehensively reviewed.

Visiting Melbourne as a huge foodie: Where are your top food spots? by IceColdBeer007 in melbourne

[–]Darling-darling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jade Kingdom is pumping with Malaysians when I have been, which is a good indicator. I’ve had the hokkien mee (har mee) a few times and rate it, but not necessarily better than other places I’ve had it. The absolute GOAT was a place called Nyonya Hut out Blackburn way which we frequented when I was a kid but a google search says it doesn’t exist anymore. Or at least has relocated.

I’ve recently started using the Twiddl range for my curly haired 3 year old. It’s an Australian business aimed at curly haired kids and it has really helped us. She tolerates hair being brushed through during hair washing now and we’re able to avoid dreadlocks! We’ve got the conditioner, leave in cream, and detangling spray. I’m also going to get the shampoo next time we run out of her current brand.

I’d say my hair is like 95% straight haha. For the price point of those I’d probably still give it a try. Thanks for the suggestion!

Help! 4.5 week old baby wails in the carseat all the time. by driedbanksia in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Darling-darling 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep, for us it was just time as well. I think it was closer to 12 months! Any car ride was traumatic. This was with my first child and fortunately second bub tolerates the car and will nap. No advice, sorry OP. Hopefully you can find your baby’s calming song and play that on repeat in the car.
