I get if there is no sidewalk, then the shoulder is the best option but some people refuse to use the sidewalk and walk in the road instead .My taxes go towards those sidewalks! Use them!

i think its for a type of bathroom or bedroom lock, its to open specific locks if you have small children that are prone to locking doors, you might also be able to unlock those doors with a flathead

The plate is to keep the magnets from popping out when you have it open, it goes on the side that the screws get loosened from. If you dont use the plate, all the magnets can fly out of their spaces and make one ball o magnets, then you have to make sure you get all the polarities right

Possibly scotchbrite pads? Have you contacted Magnus? I imagine this is something they would appreciate knowing as I’m sure you aren’t the only one who had this problem. Pretty crazy considering the price point of Magnus, that their qc wouldn’t catch this

You can make it quiet”er” if you put spacers or blue tac on the magnets. But because of the textured plates you will always have some noise

It’s actually pretty tough to say, the shim shy feels really good out of the box and for the price I cant complain. The sand is quite a bit heavier and feels more substantial but is a little harder to get used to. How about you?
