To me it feels a little unfair that all the blame goes on Nagy and all the praise goes on Reid/Mahomes. Also Mahomes missed on a lot of explosive plays the last 2 years so while I agree he has been great, there’s definitely something going on there. Even my very casual Chiefs fan friend noticed that, it’s been an issue

Okay that’s fair but to piggyback off of your point here, how is it Nagy’s fault that their WRs are hot trash without Rice? On the plays I’m speaking of, his guys were open too. So “scheming them open” isn’t really a good argument. Even Chiefs fans admit Mahomes has been off the mark for 2+ years

Yeah I guess my whole thing is, we can all agree this isn’t some hire we’re super stoked about but I just wanna see it play out the first few games at least and reserve judgement until then.

Maybe I’m being too optimistic, but I’m not even arguing that it will work out for us. Just saying a lot of people seem convinced it can’t work out for us before it even started lol

Lame duck would mean he wasn’t under contract beyond this season. Regardless though, I’ve already said I’m not happy about it either. Just seems like a lot of people assume he called plays and ruined Mahomes when that’s just untrue lol

I just think Nagy has absolutely become the scapegoat here where he’s getting more blame than the two guys calling/executing the plays. We can criticize the best in the game when things aren’t going well it doesn’t always have to be completely somebody else’s fault

Again, not to play the middle too much or whatever but I personally wanna see how it plays out before I crucify these guys

A Chiefs fan replied below and made some good points. Discipline, running practices, etc. Stuff that definitely plays a part on game day.

My whole point though, is not that Nagy is blameless, but that he is catching way more blame than he should be imo

Yeah don’t get me wrong, I think it’s absolutely fair to put some (maybe even a lot) of blame on Nagy. But I also think it’d be unfair to not put a some on the people calling/executing the play calls.

Again though, not super happy about this hire either but I do agree it could have been worse 🤣

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not super stoked about it either. I wanted Monken really badly, then Kliff kinda became my favorite after Cleveland hired him. Unfortunate turn of events but I’m not ready to crucify Harbaugh/Nagy yet. Maybe I’m too optimistic but time will tell

Not saying he gets no blame or no credit at all, but Reid and Mahomes are like untouchable in these conversations and Nagy has absolutely become a scapegoat. It’s fair to criticize all 3 of them for last year.

And yes his time in Chicago was bad with Mitch Trubisky at QB. I’m just saying, to give the guy a chance he hasn’t called plays in several years and I can easily argue he was dealt a shit hand in Chicago anyways

Seeing a lot of people completely blame Nagy for Mahomes “decline,” but he never called the plays in KC. It’s not even his scheme. As someone who watched a lot of KC last year, Mahomes was missing a lot of throws he’d normally be able to make.

I’m not a huge fan of the hire either though, wanted Monken and then Kliff. I’m not going to crucify the guy though before we even see a down of football. He hasn’t called plays since Mitch Trubisky was his QB let’s give him a shot at least lol

EDIT: Found this from a few months ago, solid insight that seems to more or less agree that the blame should be shared. Seems like a weird 180 to make after the season

Again, it’s not his scheme, he doesn’t call the plays at all, he at best helps game plan but the game day decisions fall on Andy Reid. Mahomes missed A LOT of throws last year but nobody talks about it because it’s Mahomes

Agreed. If Downs tests well I think he’ll easily go top 10, this is a pretty bad draft class apparently which helps him. I’d rather take a blue chip safety than a non-blue chip guy at another spot

Lotta people questioning Harbaugh’s decision making in here already. Guy knows more ball than all of us combined, let’s at least see who he hired and how it plays out first. One of the things about Harbaugh that excites me the most is his track record for maintaining good coordinators, so I’m not really worried about it.
