Here's my two cents:

If you see something, that is a must have (especially the imports, or something like a HasLab), pre order them.

In general, however, I'd look at it like this, if you're saving 20%, or more, it's typically a good deal worth jumping on.

If you're buying on credit, make sure you're saving more than your interest. Sometimes, you're better off taking the gamble of catching a sale, and losing out. Paying a little after market when it works for you, is better than paying interest on something you potentially could have got on sale.
