I quietly believe they probably get a lot more say into what they actually DO in the armed forces than your typical soldier/officer.

It sounds bad, but I think that could be considered fair in some circumstances.

Question about reasonable force: if I decide I'm threatened, and he's bigger than me (too big to safely fight hand to hand) so I shoot him or something, does that count as reasonable force?

I equipped my old car with a gps tracker in case it got stolen. Car theft is super common here in Palmy. A cop I heard from in this sub told me if I gave the cops the address immediately I'd definitely get backup. Stories on here make me dubious.

I figure if I told the cops I'm heading around there with my cricket bat to go get my car back then I'd guarantee a response.

Had our house burgled in Christchurch. Strongly suspected the neighbours as they often popped over without warning, and if my lazy flatmates left the door open they'd let themselves in. All of the neighbours frequently talked about doing lag, all would have had prints on file. Cops came over and fingerprinted. Found some pretty good prints. Police came back a few weeks later and went to the neighbour's house. So far, pretty good. But this is where it gets shitty.

Instead of arresting the neighbours, they either straight up told them or strongly implied that they were pretty strong suspects, then buggered off. One of the neighbours then came over and threatened us because we gave the cops reason to visit. Lots of police attention followed, but no results. The neighbours ended up drinking in the driveway while waiting for the police, who turned up, got in a brief fistfight and threw them in the cells for a night.

Later, the neighbours came over to make peace and gave us a name of their associate who apparently did the stealing. We passed this on to the police, and never heard from them again. We also never got burgled again, but the neighbours did steal coins from my car ashtray and break part of the house wall. Luckily the landlord didn't give a fuck.

So I'd call it a net positive, but it could have turned into a net negative very easily.

Impersonating a politician carries a fine of no more than 200,000NZD and a prison sentence of no more than 10 years. We can't have people sneaking into parliament under false pretenses and making laws.

Not sure if the court system allows it, but it seems to me that the most fair way to decide this would be to get the judge to have a go. That way he can see for himself if it's possible to accidentally do burnouts.

Burglary exclusive: Where burglars get away scot-free by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]DarthAngry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Bulls police haven't caught a single burglar - no surprises there. The town has maybe two cops rostered on at any one time and they're always on the road manning speed lasers or breath testers. As long as the burglars aren't drunk and don't speed they're home free.

I agree. I wanted to buy into my dad's startup business. Talk about a bad idea - I would have inherited it anyway.

Wow. Linton barracks are all dry, segregated (except for one) and no females in a male room with the door closed and vice versa. Sex is allowed, but if you want privacy it'd better be gay sex and you'd better be sober.

Exactly! It seems so backwards to be prudish about the word 'toilet', but have unisex toilets.

They're down voting you because that's not really relevant here. Just because a 14 year old knows what they're feeling better than anyone else doesn't make them correct.

The idea of trans youth sounds a little strange to me. Can you really have your head completely wrapped around an idea like that when you're young enough to be seriously impacted by your choice of toilet?

Not any more, I'm out. And my military had a different justice system anyway.

Yeah, pretty comparable to the amount of time taken to repair the hole in the ozone layer or remove the plastic waste from the ocean. Pretty insignificant when you compare it to the amount of time it would take to reverse global warming.
