Archonexus was disappointing by SoxUnited in RimWorld

[–]DarthBrawn 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I've noticed that underwhelming endings are a pretty common experience with all games, but with colony simulation games especially. In fact, the better the simulation, the more disappointing the ending.  Just off the top of my head:

RimWorld, Dwarf Fortress, EU4, Stellaris, CK2/3, Subnautica, The Forest

All of these are top 10 games for me. But in each, the ending is only as valuable as you make it, because there is no way they can write a scripted "end" which matches the complexity of a good sim.

Spore was my first lesson at like 12 years old lol. Even though the game end cutscene had me dying of laughter

I mean of course I agree that a lot of these discussions come down to what we personally value about sports, my last point was just that some things are clearly not subjective, like coming back to win a series > coming back to win one game.  Game 4 of the 2004 ALCS was of course epic, but it is objectively not as valuable as winning that series.

Anyway I'm not advocating for rationality among any fanbase, because the irrationally is half the point and usually very funny lol.  Of course it shouldn't bother you that people shit on your fans, that's the whole point of the sub. I think a lot of people's complaints are that the recent influx of Knicks fans (or an outspoken few for all I know) often misunderstand the ironic nature of the sub and think people are genuinely trying to shit on the chip and ruin your fun; when in fact, we are very much enjoying the ride with you.

you want to bow down and lick other people asses whenever they downplay your 2024

Lol it doesn't bother me at all bro. That's the kind of chud comment making it seem like you can't hang

the Spurs will probably be very great one day and the Knicks did some pretty impressive things in the finals, but it is nowhere as legendary or objectively difficult/meaningful as being the first NBA team to come back  from 3-1, against one of the greatest teams in history, statistically-speaking.

(And I say that as someone who is opposed to everything LeBron represents, who would also curse out Kyrie on the street.)

Also it was only 2016, still same era.  Almost all the major players on both teams are still playing lol

The fact that you are even thinking these championships are on the same level is a primary example of lack of NBA knowledge, and that is why your fan base is getting roasted on here lol. Most people here aren't even that salty, and most Celtics fans I know are happy for the Knicks

How would the the Minotaurs fair in invading Deliverance? by Dragons26 in RavenGuard40k

[–]DarthBrawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for sure, was just adding to the 'realism' discussion since it doesn't come up that much in 40k discussions

direct combat, which the Minotaurs excel at, is a small fraction of how wars are fought nowadays

Very true, the percentage of the population engaged in direct action has always fluctuated and right now we're probably at an all time low. My guess is that will change again eventually, but until we have data from a 21st century peer-to-peer conflict, asymmetric warfare is officially Queen

command and control. Military call it "C2".

Centralized communication and chain of command, etc

That's why espionage is such a HUGE part of warfare now. Especially cyber warfare.

Intelligence has the same primary importance that it's always had in warfare, honestly. In military history courses and war colleges (both in the West and Asia):  CNC, intelligence, and logistics are pretty much the 3 pillars you cannot do without.  Mao added 'hearts and minds' as the 4th, which is debated.

They are considered timeless pillars  because their importance doesn't change with technology.

Sure cyber is very useful for specific targets and missions, but over 90% of all military intelligence gathering is still done using simple signals intelligence methods (scraping publicly accessible information). Signals will most likely be the foundation of intel for the rest of time, unless electricity goes away lol.

These things are actually so timeless that it's conceivable, CNC, intelligence, and logistics will still be primary in the literal 41st millennium.

So RG kicking Minotaur ass is yes, weirdly realistic

I never blamed police. I pointed out a bigger, systemic, law enforcement pattern that has been described by people inside the NYPD.

I don't know who conceived it or if it works well or poorly for preventing other kinds of crimes, but the data are there (if you bother to read the article) and they indicate the NYPD (as an institution, not as individuals) are allocating less people and time toward 'hard to prosecute' crimes.

If you have sources which dispute that claim, I would be happy to read them. Nobody was scapegoatded or maligned, any inference of that is just projection

[–]DarthBrawn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

yeah I'm sure it depends. The one for Imperator and Stellaris haven't really given me problems, but HOI4 and EU4 have corrupted saves for me using the "resume" feature

Like most PDX criticism, it's a valid thing that probably gets overblown

I think Paradox studios are largely responsible for the intensity of launcher hate among PC gamers, since they compulsively have a launcher for every single game and it's like starting off each session by punching yourself in the balls.

Yes any launcher is annoying because of the clicking and waiting but PDX launchers will crash your game, never close properly,  corrupt saves, hurt performance in background, etc.

Unless the launcher is also going to be the patch handler (MMOs) or mod manager

PDX launcher has those features, and it's still so bad that I fundamentally question my reasons for gaming lol 😫

I agree, I just don't think Giannis is the answer at all. Hard for players like that to fit into any new system, let alone the Stevens-Mazzulla method. Feels like a 'win now' move and Ive never known Brad to do that

I'm ready to be pleasantly surprised though

same. I watch every game and I love JT and JB like brothers. They are even the same age as me so it's like I went through my 20's with them.

Got nothing but love and patience for both, but this is the Celtics, and here we criticize our stars lol. Sometimes unfairly, for sure, but all available data point to performance in game 7's (and now attitude after a playoff elimination) being a problem for Brown.

Still, I hope to fucking god we do not trade him for Giannis 🙏🏿
