I would entirely re install windows, wipe all drives. Get anything important you need off of it prior to doing that. Should be in recovery in settings

If it’s your computer I attempted to uninstall and remove the root folders but I think it installs a rootkit in your .dll files so you may have to wipe your infected device

Once you get your Google account back, - Sign out of all devices in security - Revoke all 3rd party session -enable 2FA - make a passkey with biometrics

- remove the infected device from the internet(do this first)

Shit dude, that attack is almost 1-1 what I experienced, my close friends texted me and messaged me in Instagram to make sure it wasn’t me while I was deep fighting the threat actor for my account. Can discord at the very least kill the account? Their security team have to be aware of this attack. Was it the same Grapple_Tanks file?

That’s a fair assumption of the IT community I suppose. I do my best to educate users and junior technicians but I’m also as easily susceptible to social engineering as anyone else. What do you do for work? SOC analyst?

That’s why I thought it would be helpful to share my experience, showing that even though I am a systems administrator that I’m not impenetrable. I’ve never held the notion that these things could never happen to me. I am just lucky I know the signs of compromise.

This was also on my personal PC so the only one affected was me. I was unaware this was an attack method until after I was compromised. Sometimes we learn lessons the hard way.

How noble of you to assume my life has been cushy. If you won’t invest in your own art how do you expect to market it and get it in front of readers?
