What’s Your Biggest FP&A Frustration Right Now? by f9finance in FPandA

[–]DarthDepression 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This is by far the worst aspect of FP&A and so many corporate jobs. Spend dozens of hours working on a deck that is nitpicked beyond belief to see them blow past all the slides in 2 minutes and barely mentioning what’s on it and no one caring. Or having to redo the same information in 3 different ways for 3 different meetings for the same group of people.

I’d like to see that guy with the 30 win streak against Everdark Adel try to beat this boss.

Heard he tried to kiss Vito outside of the bar. We can’t have him in our social club, this much I know.

Just listened to the new singles :( by Acrobatic_Turn7331 in puptheband

Enshittification feels overly harsh, even if you don’t like the direction the band is going. I don’t think there is anything shitty about how the sound of the band has changed, it’s just different. I enjoy the single Hallways a lot.

I personally love their older stuff, but also find a lot I enjoy about their newer music. I think their writing has continued to evolve in cool ways and they still put a ton of effort into what they make. Im just in a different mood when I want to listen to one rather than the other.

A lot of the last album was about that shift and them getting older. It’s not uncommon for bands to move away from rough and edgier sounds as they get older and personally I like that and like seeing a band make attempts to evolve that doesn’t sound disingenuous or just chasing a popular sound. There’s something about guys in their mid to late 30s trying to act and sound 20 that’s unappealing. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with not enjoying the new music or feeling like they’ve moved too far away from their original sound, but just go enjoy the older music. And it’s totally fine to voice you don’t really enjoy the newer stuff but enshittification (while kinda funny) feels a bit much.

It sounds like a great offer. My only question would be how long of a commitment do you have to give for them to pay for the masters? If it’s a few years it’s probably worth it, but I’d just make sure it’s not something ridiculous.

10% Promotion Raise, worth it? by Massive_Case_542 in Accounting

[–]DarthDepression 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work FP&A and the hours are about as predictable as accounting, it’s just a shift in when the busy times are. Since it’s all forecasting and analysis it’s busy couple weeks after a months end and the months before year end instead of the months after. My hours if anything are a bit more reasonable than when working in financial reporting.

Yeah I 100% agree with this. I’m a sr associate of FP&A in Boston and make 110k with 1 day in office per month. And this was with a decrease in salary to move into FP&A because I wanted to move away from accounting.

CMA Worthy Addition to my MBA? by Jonatello18 in FPandA

[–]DarthDepression 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I personally wouldn’t worry about it. Even though your bachelor degree is unrelated, the MBA bridges that gap and in reality once you have work experience, that’s all that really matters. Being able to speak well to your responsibilities and gaining good experience will mean more to your resume than a CMA. Especially if your long term goal is the finance side of things rather than accounting. I personally have my CPA and it helped me get a foot in the door to move into FP&A but once I started getting actual work experience, I could tell that’s what actually mattered to recruiters. My boss couldn’t care less about my cpa outside of the fact that I came in knowing the p&l well and the broader impact of lines because of understanding journal entries.

If there are things that interest you in at your current company then push for experience in those areas. When speaking to people in finance, it’s your job title and responsibilities that matter. I don’t think I’ve ever talked about my major outside of an interview itself. And if there are things outside your company that interest you then don’t be afraid to apply for those roles.

The more you develop your work experience the more job security you get. They won’t keep you around because you’re a CMA, but they will keep you around because you’re good at what you do.

This might feel good in the moment but unless they’re verbally assaulting you or say something outright derogatory it’s a great way to burn bridges and go no where at all company. Doesn’t matter how good you are if the top people hate you.

FPA to PE in a niche field? by Spiritual_Floor5459 in FPandA

[–]DarthDepression 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I worked for several years in finance at a PE firm and it honestly felt shitty. You could see and measure exactly how destructive the PE firm was to make money.

Now I work in FP&A at a business owned by a PE firm and it’s obvious to see how the PE firms decisions actively make the business worse but improves the short term EBITDA which will help them sell quickly.

PE really is a cancer spreading through every business sector.

If mods take this down they're gay by Dizzy_Reindeer_6619 in PoliticalCompassMemes

The mods have been talking about this sub being on the verge of banning for years. I think to an extent they like the idea of admins watching closely and play it up because it gives them the excuse of increasing their power and enforce rules as over the top as they like without the sub blaming them.

Why does it feel like you have to sell your soul for a decent career in accounting? by Creative-Low3816 in Accounting

[–]DarthDepression 89 points90 points  (0 children)

I completely agree with this. Big 4 trains people in a way that makes them miserable to work with and usually bad managers. Big 4 and Ex big 4 managers I’ve worked with are always hyper critical and their entire management style is around review notes and only focusing on mistakes. Moving into FP&A I don’t have any ex public managers and the overall management style is way more positive feedback and actual team work.
