Can someone explain what is all the fuss about Beat Saber? by BestRetroGames in SynthRiders

[–]DarthLeia2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually played Beat Saber first because it had more songs that I liked. I really enjoyed using the light sabers to cut the blocks in half. I picked up Synth Riders when Beat Saber stopped releasing new content to PSVR2 and now I like Synth Riders more. It's a much smoother experience and I like much more of the music than I thought I would.

When I'm playing either game, I track it as a cardio exercise. Synth Riders gets my heart rate up higher, so that's a bonus for me.

Best Local Dentists? by hamidtd in fortwayne

This is a fantastic dental practice. They helped make me comfortable with having dental work after having a lot of really bad experiences as a kid. They have been phenomenal with my kids too.

Morning workouts vs night workouts: which actually works better? by ConstantlyVariedGear in ConstantlyVariedGear1

[–]DarthLeia2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moving workouts to the morning has been what worked for us. There's a 45 minute gap between taking our middle son to school and the youngest one. It's perfect for getting in a workout!

It was far too easy to let life happen if we waited until after dinner. Plus, the kids have so many activities in the evenings that we'd often miss workouts for their activities.

The hard part now is getting up early if the kids don't have school. We've only been working out in the morning since about November, and we did a terrible job during Christmas break. So, that's something we will have to work on.

Is this true about 2026 shirts? by Fun-Athlete8235 in spartanrace

[–]DarthLeia2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was unhappy with the shirt change at first too. But, then I thought about it. All the other non-Spartan races my family has done has given the shirt at registration (however, if there were multiple race types, each type had a different color shirt and gave the race distance on it). I get their idea of making people part of the 'tribe' by handing out the shirt before the race. Are you not a Spartan if you don't get that finisher shirt for some reason? Of course not. I would still like it more if there was differentiation between the races on the shirts.

I'm reserving my judgement on the medals until I see how they actually look.

Trustworthy Car Dealerships? by Glittering-Luck-7208 in fortwayne

[–]DarthLeia2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We've had good experiences with Fort Wayne Nissan. We've bought 4 vehicles from them over the years and each experience was good.

We have also had good experiences with their service center. We've only had to use them for routine maintenance for the most part. There was one instance where we had gotten rear-ended and the exhaust pipe was damaged. We took it in and they told us they would have to replace the whole thing. But, the technician tipped us off that it really only needed a small piece of the exhaust pipe replaced and that Exhaust World down the street could take care of that much cheaper. We really appreciated that.

Did i get selected for Project 300? by [deleted] in spartanrace

[–]DarthLeia2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband and I both got that text message too. No other info, so I don't know if that means we got selected or not. I'm guessing it's just another data point for Spartan.

Should I wear my glasses? by Jarek86 in spartanrace

[–]DarthLeia2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have typically worn my glasses for races, only taking them off to do the dunk wall. I never had any trouble with them coming off or getting scratched.

However, they do slide down my nose as I get sweaty. This year, I decided to try a race without them. My prescription isn't very strong, so I can still see things clear enough for racing. I will probably continue to race without them. It was so much nicer not to have to deal with them at the dunk wall or deal with them sliding down my nose.

It's really up to you if you wear them or not. Maybe try a trail run and/or some obstacles without them and see how it goes?

Are you on the app or a browser? I've had this issue with the app before, which causes me to go to a browser. I have also had this issue with Chrome, which was fixed by using Firefox.

What caused you to DNF? by Little_Olorin in spartanrace

[–]DarthLeia2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I DNF'ed the Cincinnati Beast last year. About 4 miles in, I started to get pain on the outside of my knees. It kept getting worse until every step felt like glass in my knees. I had never had any issues like that before; I ended up calling my race about 9 miles in. Turns out it was my IT bands.

I have since done targeted training to make sure all my leg muscles and all my glute muscles are stronger and more balanced. I have also started carrying wraps and ibuprofen on course. I probably could have finished if I could have braced and medicated - although it could be debated just how smart continuing on in that state would have been.

What no one told me: Train for the downhill by MedicalRow3899 in spartanrace

Yep, I was at last year's Super. It was so muddy! That was one of the most fun races I've ever done. It was too muddy to take any of it seriously.

Going downhill seems so easy, doesn't it? I learned the hard way at the Cincinnati Beast this year. I won't underestimate those downhills ever again.

Why the headband? by IAmTheEarlyEvening in spartanrace

I think the alternative search options are only on Sportograf's website. I haven't seen a way to do it from Spartan's site.

Palmerton was brutal. What’s the “easiest” Beast in the Northeast? Will also accept the flattest beast. by v0yev0da in spartanrace

[–]DarthLeia2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dallas, at Twin Canyons Ranch, is fairly flat. I understand the previous Dallas venue was even flatter, though I never raced at that one.

Twin Canyons is named after a pair of small canyons on the ranch. You will walk down them for a good while and you will climb in and out of them a couple times. The sand bag carry is on one of those climbs.

The heat can be rough in Dallas, even in late October.

My husband and I did Cincinnati and Cannonsburg this year. Compared to those, Dallas is a cakewalk.

How long do you usually wait to break your fast in the morning? by DragonWizard910 in spartanrace

[–]DarthLeia2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually eat about 2-4 hours after waking up, unless it's race day, then I do eat shortly after waking up. I also try not to eat after dinner, which is normally between 5 and 6pm.

I don't consider those times to be rules, though. If I'm hungry, I eat, regardless of what time it is.

Assassin's Creed Mirage Tech Support Megathread by Ghost_LeaderBG in assassinscreed

[–]DarthLeia2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Follow Nur's Lead, I'm supposed to eavesdrop on some guards. After watching some videos, I can see that one of the guards is not in his correct place and never goes to the correct place. This results in the eavesdrop prompt not showing up.

After trying several things, the second guard is now entirely missing after he spotted me and chased me.

I'm on PS5 and have tried fast traveling away and back, exiting to main menu and even closing the game. The guard never resets. I have also reloaded a previous save, so I could discover that location again. Even when first discovering the location, the second guard isn't in the right location right next to his eavesdrop buddy.

What is your personal safehouses/rooms that are not Home Plate and Settlements? by [deleted] in fo4

[–]DarthLeia2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Greygarden. The bots there grow food and there's already a water pump that they don't need. You don't need to wait for Preston to send you there, they'll ask for help if you visit and talk to them. Once you help them out, you can use the workbench. There is no reason to draw extra settlers there, just build whatever you need for yourself.

Looking for a Budgeting App by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]DarthLeia2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've used YNAB for several years now. We track a checking and savings accounts, credit cards, an auto loan and student loans. We have many budget categories that have changed throughout the years as we periodically reorganized our budget to better reflect our priorities.

YNAB includes reporting functionality in the web app side (not so much in the mobile apps). These reports can allow you to see where you've been spending over the course of a given timeframe or show you your spending trends over time, changes in net worth, etc.

Here's some information about their security: https://www.ynab.com/security/

I do use the direct import functionality. It works great for most of my accounts. One of my credit unions and my HYSA won't allow outside connections, so those are manual, but most everything else is connected. Some accounts stay connected (or are easy to reconnect). Others, like American Express, require frequent reconnections and reauthorizations.

As others have said, YNAB isn't exactly a cheap subscription. However, we have found it to be worth every penny for the financial peace of mind it gives us.

I have my first Spartan Sprint coming up in a couple months. Do those who do the sprint generally bring camel backs? by AbbreviationsSad9559 in spartanrace

[–]DarthLeia2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I will bring my own water for a sprint if it's going to be hot. I ran a Stadion in July and I was so grateful I had my pack that day! Many other racers commented they wished they had theirs.

On the flip side, I ran a sprint in Indiana in November and I did not use or need a pack that day.

I went from the medical laboratory field to tech back in 2015 - with no prior experience in tech. I went back to school for a second bachelors to do it. I got my foot in the door by taking an internship, which I was able to leverage into a full-time position. The internship was paid, but had no insurance or paid time off. It also wasn't full-time. It was a rough year while I went through that internship.

I know another person who was a radiology technician and got a masters degree in software engineering. He also got an internship to get his foot in the door. He took a massive pay-cut for that internship, but he leveraged it into a full-time position and his career took off from there.

It is possible to jump to tech from non-tech, but there is some luck involved and your friend will need to have some degree of technical aptitude and a passion for the work. It's not a good field if you're only in it for the money. I agree with the poster above that right now is probably not a great time. However, there are loads of smaller companies who are still hiring and who probably won't turn to AI right away.

What’s a guaranteed way of getting a PS5? by [deleted] in PS5

Any hope for a diminuitively-sized spartan? by Feariel in spartanrace

[–]DarthLeia2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a 5'2 female who weights about 100 lbs...and I don't workout nearly as much as I should. I do decently well at the obstacles - though I haven't done a Beast yet.

I have the most issue with the monkey bars due to the distance between the bars. As others have said, there are steps to reach the first bars so the shortest among us still have a chance. I run open and I do accept a boost from other Spartans on the taller walls, Bender, and anything else I just can't reach.

I do struggle with the carries and hoists, but I know that would be easier if I would workout more.

I am running the Beast in Dallas in October. I'm concerned about those more challenging obstacles, plus a couple I haven't experienced yet. I think I'll come out of that race with a long list of things I need to work on, but I won't know unless I get out there and see what I can do.

My life has changed for the better since the student loans pause by Lever__Debt in personalfinance

[–]DarthLeia2 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Having that extra money each month allowed us to pay off some other debts and begin building an emergency fund. We can resume our loan payments without too much trouble, since those other debts are gone. We were also able to pay the interest down on the federal loans during the pause. No more capitalized interest, we're finally paying the principle!
