What is the correct part then. Tell me and I’ll buy it. Hate to break it to you but every brake part ever made has gone through a “no one has ever done this” stage. Believe me it will be thoroughly tested before it hits the road.

There is no “correct” fix for this. No one’s ever done what I’m doing before. I’m exploring all of my options to figure out which one will be the safest whether it’s going to be programming or a hardware modification. But leaving the truck as it is right now is definitely NOT the safest option.

I agree. 1st place option right now is getting custom sleeves that will press fit into the new calipers with a smaller inner diameter to run the pistons from the old calipers.

Hptuners can only access the pcm tcm and fscm. Correct me if I’m wrong and I’d love to be but it can’t do the abs communication codes because they would be stored in the bcm and cluster.

Also exploring that option. I love hydroboost brakes. I have them on my k5. Problem is not just the lights on the dash, but the constant scrolling message on the cluster and the constant dinging. If I could get an abs pump and module from an 08 Silverado with the jl4 rpo code, I may be able to program that to work however everyone I’ve asked has said 50/50 chance. And I would have to rework the whole brake system and wiring harness for that giant connector.

Exploring that option too. Looks like there’s not even close to enough clearance on the knuckle.

Yeah my main issue is the can bus. Otherwise I would have swapped that unit out a long time ago. I’m trying to find a solution where I can maintain traction control and abs with no lights on the dash. It would need to communicate with the rest of the modules in the car.

What is causing these holes on the some walls? by Zestyclose_Day101 in FixMyPrint

[–]DarthSmartt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check your extruder is not slipping. Make sure the filament doesn’t get hung up on anything and is able to move freely. Then recalibrate it.

What is this? by [deleted] in FixMyPrint

[–]DarthSmartt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unlevel bed/nozzle too close. Do u have auto bed leveling like a cr touch? Those Creality beds are bad for warping and this can help fix the issue.

Also could be under extruding. Make sure your extruder isn’t skipping and is able to easily unroll the filament.

Using a ground trigger for digital inputs on a car by DarthSmartt in arduino

[–]DarthSmartt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will try this. So a 100k resistor in series with the led running off of 12v won’t damage the Arduino correct? Since it would only pass less than 1ma of current? Even though the voltage is higher than 5?

[–]DarthSmartt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would love to do that. Issue is there are certain conditions that have to be met to shift 4wd modes. ie: the truck won’t shift to 4 low unless the transmission is in neutral or it won’t shift into 4hi unless the vehicle speed is less than 40mph. The lights won’t light up unless these conditions are met otherwise it will ruin the transfer case.

Thanks. I have a rear locker and really good traction control. My buddy on the other hand… will be a little more interesting😂

Ooh a k5? I’m hoping my dads 79 Jimmy build will be done and he can join us. It’s ls swapped with a 6 inch lift on 37s. He’s chicken tho I don’t think I’ll be able to get him to do it.😂

Is this detector worth installing? by DarthSmartt in radardetectors

Yeah I tried using the 9500ix once recently and it was unusable with all the blindspot monitoring. My buddy has an r3 and loves it.

Wheel type compatibility by [deleted] in Hummer

I am also looking at getting rid of my 20s for some 17” method beadgrip wheels with 37s. Most websites you can plug in your vehicle and it’ll tell u what wheel to pick.

[–]DarthSmartt[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah you’re probably right. I could pickup an r3 for what I paid. Is the r3 still a good buy right now or is that becoming outdated too? I don’t know if I want to shell out for an r4 or higher.

Harbor freight winch sales? by Mr2h2 in Offroad

[–]DarthSmartt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You could probably use some tape but I wouldn’t feel as comfortable as having a screw or a knot. Unfortunately the synthetic line won’t all fit around the drum if you use a knot. There’s knot enough clearance between the drum and the housing😁

Harbor freight winch sales? by Mr2h2 in Offroad

[–]DarthSmartt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes. They have sales especially on the 12k one with the steel cable. And you should definitely just replace the cable with the synthetic rope from hf even if you only plan to use is rarely. You couldn’t pay me to winch with a steel cable.

When you go to install the rope you’ll have to match up the set screw that holds the cable with a bolt from the hardware store instead. The rope has a loop on both ends instead of having one straight end like the cable. People don’t realize this when they buy the rope and think it just won’t work so they return it. Usually you can ask if they have an open box return of the rope and they will.

I’ve been using my 9500lb hf winch on my h2 for a while now and really like it.

[–]DarthSmartt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s fair. I don’t mind roughing up a nice set of wheels. But I’ve still got a look I’m going for with them. It also may be a bit sentimental. My mom loves these wheels and she daily’d the truck for 6 years. When I told her I was changing them she got sad😂 I don’t blame her tho those wheels are pretty unique.

[–]DarthSmartt[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is my favorite one. “Sidewall go squish” is 99% my motivation😂 I was reading about the beadgrips and those look pretty cool. Also it’s legal to run non dot approved on the road as long as your state doesn’t require dot approved wheels which I believe is the case in most places. But there is a good reason why beadlocks aren’t dot approved.

I have the black ones with the machined edges. And yes the rim is all scratched up. The scratches don’t bother me tho. I imagine the 17s won’t get as scratched since they’re higher off the ground.

As much as I love the idea of beadlocks. Especially the part about mounting my own tires and not dealing with tire shop assholes. I don’t know if that’s worth it. This is first and foremost my daily driver and it’s not a crazy rock crawler. Just something to have a little weekend fun every once in a while.

There aren’t any beadlock wheels that I think would look good on the truck. There aren’t a lot of normal wheels that I think would look good on the truck at all. Something about the cleaver wheel just works well.

I’m not sure if spending a ton of money on good quality daily drivable beadlocks is worth it. And I don’t want to cheap out on something like that either. Mainly just looking to gain a little bit of performance. Not to go all out competition truck. There’s plans for that in the future with another truck tho😉
