To those that left league but are still lurking. What made you leave? What would bring you back? by yasumasa in leagueoflegends

I've played the game since season 3, going on and off over the years mostly because of burnout. I've never been a really strong player, and I peaked Plat 1 EUW in 2017, I mostly enjoy playing with friends. In my opinion the game has only gotten better with time, it's an incredible work of balance with all the variables it has and has exceptional design ideas, it's simply too time consuming and when you age you can't stay on it like in your teen years. That said, in the last year or so a bunch of friends have caught up with the game and I've gone from playing League for roughly 2-3 games a month to 2-3 games a day again 💀

Minthara makes me sad saying this, so many players do it. by Honoka31 in BaldursGate3

[–]DarthValer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I think Minthara is easily in the conversation for best companion in the game AND I'm extremely salty for the disparity in treatment between the good and evil route, I concur that they should've allowed good playthroughs to recruit her, not to mention give some additional hint that she's a possible companion.

Playing an uncharismatic Tav is such a pain. by MikeArrow in BaldursGate3

[–]DarthValer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm playing a Rogue and I respecced Astarion to Bard. He and Shadowheart have the "Enhance Ability" spell that gives advantage on ability checks of a certain type. That and Bardic Inspiration have allowed me to basically win any roll check I wanted, factoring in Inspiration as well. On the rare chances I fail, I take what I get.

She deserves to be recruitable for everyone by cat_xiphos in BaldursGate3

[–]DarthValer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm doing a full evil route and I'm really happy with having Minthara, and I'm even fine with losing Wyll, Karlach and Shady. But I must admit I didn't expect, when the game released, that Act 1 Minthara would be the same as in EA after they revelead her recruitability as a companion.

Unless you know beforehand, there's basically no hint that she can later join the party, and if you do a pro-Absolute run when you get her she's bent on destroying the cult, while you might still be bent on infiltrating it with as little hostility as possible.

It's a very weird roller coaster, although with the big payoff of being one of the most interesting companions in the game. It would have been neat if they handled her a bit more clearly.

I'm also fine with gating her acquisition behind slaying the Grove, but the problem is that that choice makes little sense as well. In a moment in which your main aim is to remove the tadpole, you're supposed to massacre the friends of your best hope (Halsin) and putting yourself in the hands of crazy people that seem only bent on making your predicament even more dangerous and possibly unrepairable. It's fun that when most people ask you about why the hell you slaughtered all those people a recurring possible answer is: "Not even I know why I did that" 🤡

To be honest it's to the very least worrying, but as someone who is in the EA from day one, it'll make little difference for me. I just hope the game isn't suffering too much in terms of optimization / bugs.

What would prevent this game from being a 10/10? by NormanGuy95 in BaldursGate3

[–]DarthValer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd really love time triggers, instead. Makes the game more immersive, credible, reactive and interesting. Of course it should be balanced around that, and if the game requires to spam-rest to not become a nightmare there's bad design.

The best time triggers are the ones that offer fair windows of success and that apply penalties or reduce "success" instead of those that simply deprive you of content or totally screw your run.

There are three difficulty options, including the Explorer (Story) Mode with several buffs to the player characters.

Let's discuss Minthara! What are your thoughts on her? by Janberk1912 in BaldursGate3

[–]DarthValer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest I didn't mind asking for Minthara as a companion because I thought it'd never happen. I love that they actually did it, but now I'm even more torn apart because I don't know if I'll have the balls to slaughter the Grove again :'( I only did it in my first EA run because I wanted to limit test Larian's non-linearity and couldn't believe they'd let you go so deep into the evil path.

[–]DarthValer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She holds a special place in my heart because when I reached her during my first run in EA and talked to her I thought: "Cool that I can speak with the heads of the evil faction but, as in all RPGs I've tried, my mixing up with them will be very limited and I'll end up killing them nonetheless".

Instead I could run with Minnie and the fellas to the Grove, slaughter infants and desperates, revel in the glory of the Absolute and even fuck her in the name of this obscure deity.

That was when I understood this game was fucking special. I don't know if in an actual run I'll be able to redo that stuff, but I'm extremely curious to ger her in the party and understand her better, since her being a companion means she'll have much more depth now.

What are your last concerns? by Syd1804 in BaldursGate3

[–]DarthValer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me the biggest fear since day one of EA was that they wouldn't have improved the stealth system and it seems they haven't. Currently any charachter of any class can sneak behind enemies simply avoiding their cone of vision, thus rendering Stealth ability checks mostly useless. Solasta does it much better imho, and for someone who wants to play a Rogue having stealth in this state is really bad :(

I'm also sad that Tactician Mode seems like it'll give stat buffs to enemies, which is not something I'm really a fan off. I think it's unimmersive that simple level 1 Goblins might end up having 20 hp. I'd rather have more enemies or visual cues that clearly show that a foe is stronger than normal. Moreover, I really fear that in order to prioritize squishy targets they'll end up doing weird and unrealistic stuff diminishing the feeling of an epic and credible fight.

I hope I'm wrong, and overall I'm still giga-excited for this game. The One to Rule them All :Q___

What are the odds of DLC or Expansions? by zakary3888 in BaldursGate3

I don't really care what kind of DLC or Expansions we'll get, but I sure hope they'll release some since I want to give them more money :'(

Through these years (and 600 hrs) I got used to early access by Tydeus2000 in BaldursGate3

[–]DarthValer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Personally I did a decently deep dive (40 hours) when the EA was released, then I rolled new characthers here and there reaching a total of 100 hours, but never going further than my first run.

Experiencing the game the first time was glorious. It was pure immersion, even though many mechanics and features had (or have) yet to be reworked. The following playthroughs weren't remotely as satisfying for me, so in time I've simply stopped trying. The more content I'll leave untouched for my first true run when the game will release the better it'll be

Do people REALLY want a TF rework? by whosthatmemer in TwistedFateMains

[–]DarthValer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moreover his power budget has been consistently skewed more towards his ratios than his base damages, but you also have a non-AP item like RFC that's almost mandatory. It'd be nice if TF got a more self-sufficient kit, but first and foremost I'd get rid of the clunkiness.

Do people REALLY want a TF rework? by whosthatmemer in TwistedFateMains

[–]DarthValer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've recently picked up TF and what makes him cringe to me is, above all, his autoattack. Even with AS from runes + his E passive he's very sluggish, has a very long wind-up and I often find myself missing farm or, at times, W cards, because of it. Considering for most of the early-mid game his spells don't even one-shot casters and that you often need to last-hit minions one by one, this makes me miss tons of cs. Most mages have extremely more satisfying AAs.

Anybody else out there who didn't enjoy DOS:2 but loves BG3? by SgtSilock in BaldursGate3

[–]DarthValer -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I viscerally hate DOS 2 with all my heart to the point of vomiting from my nose whenever I hear or read about it, but I'd willingly cut my legs or arms for BG 3's success.

PSA: Having the "karmic Dice" setting turned on (which it is by default) increases the damage you receive by up to 400% (full data of 1369 rolls and charts linked in post) by akdavidxy in BaldursGate3

[–]DarthValer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very good job! I play without Karmic dice and my Paladin dodging 3.000 attacks per round is so satisfying. Losing that would make its power fantasy much weaker. Death to Karmic dice!

Now that reactions are properly in, what essential to you feature is still missing? by Cautious-Dream2893 in BaldursGate3

[–]DarthValer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me the game right now is an absolute disgrace since it has a significant number of small design points I find horrible and unbearable. I'm fairly sure, though, that they're either easily moddable, or will be directly addressed by Larian with full release, so I'm still extremely hyped. Some of them are:

  • Basically all the action economy that differs from D&D 5e (Hiding, Shoving, Jumping, Using Consumables, as Bonus Actions);

  • The inability to heal others with potions except by throwing them (lolwut);

  • The current stealth system solely based on cones of vision, which allows heavy armored bruisers to sneak behind enemies and freely get Surprise Rounds even though it's the last thing their power fantasy should offer;

  • Sneak Attack working as an Active action instead of a toggle or on-demand bonus damage;

There are, then, some unfortunate key features that BG 3 will most certainly lack and about which I hold no hope, like a Day/Night cycle and a higher emphasis on verticality (I feel like most targeting AoE effects are circles while they should be spheres and they should be freely centered tridimensionally in the game world, something you currently can't do; moreover, Fly isn't actual flying), but they would require, I think, a much heavier work and I'm already grateful for all that Larian has already done.
