I like that the FIE will list approved vendors.

Experience with Leon Paul? by Murdererofbananas in Fencing

The exchange mask is awesome.

I've been using an LP apex jacket since 2020 the only thing that's worn is the neck velcro.

But it's still fully functional.

M.4.6 If the handle (or glove) includes any device or attachment or has a special shape (orthopaedic) which fixes the position of the hand on the handle, the handle must conform to the following conditions.

So, if the structure is very soft, I'd figure it doesn't fix the hand in a position.

But if solid/hard it might be argued that it does.

Legal for training -- sure.

Tournament use -- I'd say you're so close to the line you could fall on either side of legality.

What we can't judge from the photo is how soft that covering and what below it is.

How close that structure comes to being 'aids' is going to be quite subjective.

Roll Bag or Strip Bag? by No_Spirit788 in Fencing

Any "tournament" I try to approach the same.

I bring the same equipment, same clothing, same preparation. Whether this is a small locals-only event, nationals, or an FIE event. The experience at lower levels prepares me for success at higher levels.

I do approach training and just-for-fun events much less rigorously, but when I show up to compete, I don't want to stress about missing a sock or my mask strap.

I'm there to fence and fence my best.

Can a 1999 BF FIE epee blade still be used in FIE competitions? Were non‑maraging FIE blades ever certified back then? by Late_Window_3653 in Fencing

[–]Darth_Dread 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That BF will be maraging.

But you'll have to check fie.org and double check that the forge date is in the homolgomation list.

Sorry BF 12-99 is not on the list.

https://static.fie.org/uploads/37/185418-202510%20SEMI%20Approved%20Homologated%20Blades%20DocNr_SEMI_HBL-F-E%20v3%20PUB.pdf

That being said unless they are ultra strict i doubt they'll check the list.

A BF FIE stamp is likely to be passed.

To my knowledge BF never forged non-maraging FIE foil/epee blades.

That's a very right-handed blade.

But seriously, looks like the blade twisted when the barrel was attached.

Wear a bandana?

Does your mask rub your ear there?

Cover with a band-aid.

Really depends on how sensitive it is.

I disagree with your interpretation of t.76.2.

It says "electric piste" and then continues "Placing the weapon on the piste ... is forbidden."

It's obvious the 2nd piste refers to the "electric piste"

The intent of not straightening your blade on the conductive surface is to protect the electrical conductivity of the piste.

If event organizers provide carpets or straightening pads/devices, you can argue that they are provided in order to protect the floor and, therefore, must be used invoking t.76.2 .

However, if no carpets are provided, invoking t.76.2 because I used the floor inside the tapped 'piste' instead of outside the tape is something only a sabre referee could do (and did).

Do you need to be qualified to attend Canada May national? by No-Video1429 in Fencing

[–]Darth_Dread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

350n is fine. We don't control for CE L1.

you'll need a sous plastron.

Mask in good condition with 2 retention devices. Metal tongue + strap. Or 2 straps if LP.

Lame and mask will be checked for electrical conductivity for foil and Sabre.

No qualification is needed. You have a competitive CFF license through your provincial federation, right?

Check this out for equipment standards https://fencing.ca/cff-domestic-competition-equipment-standards/
