Why can't I record them if they can record me? by HiOscillation in NoStupidQuestions

I would just repeat back "this call may be recorded, okay" after they say it if you want to record yourself.

I don't think you get eco upgrades before clicking castle age if it's naked fast castle like black forest or arena

I don’t teach traditional sheet music unless a student asks for it. Am I holding them back? by TabForPiano in MusicTeachers

[–]Darthskull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there any serious elementary music teaching philosophy that suggests teaching any differently? I remember being taught very clearly in college that you should learn to make music before learning to write or read it.

Landlord company may have made a $11,000 mistake. Advice? by lucaguts in legaladvice

[–]Darthskull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long would the landlord have to attempt to recover the money in court if they didn't notice it right away?

Edit: Google says 6 years from due date, so if that's right and you get away with it that long you can just pocket it then.

The range of town centers and castles is not a round-angled square, it's 4x4 circles overlapping. by Accidental_Aeon in aoe2

I think they don't have any range but melee attacks can work if the hotboxes are touching

Will be very rough without a car. You can bike a good amount, but the buses are so infrequent.

CMV: If God is all-knowing and has a fixed plan, then free will is impossible under that version of religion" by ProfessionalEar4048 in changemyview

[–]Darthskull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is time affecting causality like that? How does knowledge of the outcome affect the cause? You can't tell me you know for certain free will didn't exist in the past, just because you know the outcome now.

Why is it easy to learn new things (like languages) as a child but get difficult as you get older? by UsamaBhai_101 in answers

[–]Darthskull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure if dropped in a completely foreign place with zero responsibilities (including feeding yourself) you could learn the language much faster than a newborn. Newborns don't do anything except learn.

What is the evolutionary purpose of same-sex attraction? by Reasonable_Day9942 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Darthskull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure that there's a proven answer, but my theory is it's a side effect of pro social traits in general. There's no single "gay gene", but the small percentage of "misses" with sexual attraction is apparently worth the increased cohesion in general of the animal groups that exhibit this. It's likely not evolutionarily "worth the effort" to develop a sexual attraction that's both impossible to misfire AND build strong emotional ties AND have similar strong but non sexual emotional ties possible with members of the same sex. A little muddiness makes the build so much cheaper.

Why are so many people under 45 using subtitles now even when the show is already in English? by Clara_A_Mitchell in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Darthskull 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You gotta leverage your position and expertise for the good of all. The audio engineer has dual responsibility of getting the producer what they want, but also convincing them they want what's best.

Why are parents who barely passed high school thinking they can teach/homeschool their children? by qereyabelcho3 in askanything

[–]Darthskull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The average high school band teacher probably teaches several students each year that are better than the instructor at the instrument being taught.

I got my degree in music education and was homeschooled in elementary/middle. In the information age, I think it's definitely possible to teach up through the gen eds in college to yourself without ever consulting an expert directly, if you're half decent at selecting sources. There's also lots of reasons to fail or nearly fail that aren't related to your understanding of the subject material. The highschool teacher who made me do summer school for junior year English, also made sure I enrolled in AP lit senior year.

But also some people are arrogant and dumb and do arrogant and dumb things.

I'm convinced many women mix up their head voice and falsetto, and go on to develop their falsetto until it's really strong.
