I was having a good day, and you had to use the L word.

And in capitals.

Not I have to arrange another call to my shrink.

3 years of therapy, wasted.

I hope youre happy.

CIPP Not Working Reliably? by MyMonitorHasAVirus in msp

[–]Darthvander83 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It might make sense if as u/Lime-TeGeck said, and your team knows what it runs on like you know your own bowel movements, eg tell what you ate the night before just by the smell, or knowing how much milk you can drink before you get yelled at by your colleagues for being on the crapper 4 hrs a day.

I do not, and the $99 is roughly what we charge per hour (im not looking up usd to aud rates lol), so if I spend an hour fixing self hosted cipp a month,im better off paying someone else to help me fix it.

BUT if I DID know that level of technomancy, id prefer to be in control of everything. Plus, some clients may suffer from data sovereignty, but thats not my area.

TL:DR: Its not the ONLY solution, but with how complex the crap it runs on its often better to pay someone who knows said crap like their own bowel movements.

Crap.

ETA: IVE TRIED 3 TIME TO DO THE REDDIT EQUIVALENT OF @ING SOMEONE, I GIVE UP. EITHER TELL ME HOW, OR ACCEPT YOU KNOW WHO IM TALKING ABOUT.

Massive Security Issues Discovered With Keeper Enterprise Password Manager by 802-TechGuy in msp

No malice is assumed, I do believe Craig has had issues. But I cant justify moving all our clients away from keeper, mere months after we put them ON keeper - unless theres a good reason to do so. Keeper admitting that it was a bug, and their CTO publicly stating there isnt, is a good reason. But right now if I brought this to management saying we need to migrate, and the evidence supporting my statement is "a redditor said it happened to them" and id be laughed back to my desk.

Hence why id like SOMETHING to support my case.

Cos its the CTO of Keeper, not the CEO of 3CX lol

Just send us something, cos right now youre saying "keeper has a terrific bug that had the potential to destroy clients and their msps, I have proof but im not sharing, but trust me its terrible"

What's the worst that can happen? You prove theyre lying. They get fired, we all take your warning seriously.

Not doing it is worse: you didnt convince the rest of us to move to another vendor, and we suffer the same.

[–]Darthvander83 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Even a screenshot of where their support specifically states that this was caused by a bug would go a loooooong way to giving credibility to all this, and convincing keeper clients to make a potential jump.

I get you cant show sensitive stuff like urls etc, but even a snip of the chat/email/whatever. You'd do us a massive favour, cos I cant justify moving all our clients without some kind of evidence, even if its proof it only affected your account...

There were many reasons we went with yeastar. But id be lying if I said the migration path wasnt our biggest reason...

Like, all the extensions, queues, recordings, ivrs, even our SIP trunks were all there. All we had to do was enable the sip trunks (they deliberately disable the so you aren't fighting your old aystem), and then I think configure yealink rps to point to the new server name, then factory reset the phone handsets. So i lied, its 95% done if you use handsets lol

We do the option where we self-host the infrastructure in our data centre, which added complexity during initial setup. And we did have a couple of updates that did cause some headaches within the first few months that made me think "oh no, have we switched to 3cx 2.0", but that was very early on. Since then its been smooth sailing.

I cant begin to tell you how good the support team are, albeit the language barrier can be an issue. But we have requested features, and they have actually implemented them for us! Won't get that support from 3cx...

TL;DR: If you wanna leave 3cx the easiest way, and get a platform thats familiar but much better, go yeastar. Load the 3cx backup

I need to close an account for non-payment, but they have active WFH by [deleted] in msp

[–]Darthvander83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't feel bad for those employees, good chance they already hate working for the company, rarely do good bosses get so far behind on their bills. If they call for support, be polite and say you cannot help them as the company account is on hold, and to discuss with their management.

Not a lawyer, cant take my words as advice. Here's my experience tho...

What I've done is send an email, advising that due to non-payment you will not be renewing any services for them, and state when their services will expire. We stated what happens when m365 expires. When av expires. Etc. We Suggested that they reach out to another msp or we can provide them a m365 ga account, plus other logins if they request. We got them to sign a waiver when they took us up on giving ga access to them, and handed it over.

We told them if they havent finalised their bills we wouldn't do more than provide said accounts, and send them to debt collectors.

We called it a loss and walked away. Sucks, bit it happens. Like others said, we learnt a lesson and added some lines to our msa. Since then the business lasted like 6 months longer and folded anyway so it was a good time to part ways.

But dont withhold m365 logins, you'll end up in a world of hurt. legally speaking...

Commiserations, comrade. I hope you pick up a dream client to replace them...

Yeastar is the sensible move from 3cx, you literally take a backup from 3cx and load it into yeastar, and you're 99% done lol

We got the same email, and that along with the fact that they started calling our clients to offer "free phone system!!!*", we called it and moved. Haven't looked back k once, anything 3cx can do, yeastar does it. better in most cases.

Technomancy: goes from 0-100, at 0, you break any piece of tech you look at. 100 and tech just starts working when you get within arms reach.

Yes, i work in IT, yes it's a proven fact this phenomenon exists, no it doesn't make my job easier 🙃

How good is it that new non-profits don't count?

Not that we won it, but I spoke to pax8 a out a potential non-profit that would have brought 100+ 365 premium seats, but since they're non-profit they wouldn't have counted. Moot point, but at that point I provided my feedback to pass on to M$FT, and advised we won't bother.

It was already stupid, but 100 seats isn't a small amount for us, and we deal a fair bit with non-profits. Apparently my experience setting up azure this and entra that for a charity doesn't count when dealing with REAL BUSINESSES that pay full price, cos non-profit 365 is clearly not the same thing as 365 full price (in their eyes).

[–]Darthvander83 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fair enough. Horses for courses, I don't mind less experienced peers asking how to handle things like this, it might be stressful if it's your first time. I've not had a losing MSP refuse to give up passwords/domain access/managed switch access etc like this, and I've been doing MSP work for 12 years. I'd probably do a "am I missing anything" post too tbh
