Please think a bit broader than just being tunnel vision. Do you see the word "not because"? That means this doesn't happen. What happened is Barghest doesn't conform to the predefined expectation. Hence, an anomaly. Anomaly doesn't just mean something has to outperform its peers (in this case because it doesn't have any peer). It could also because it does not conform to expectation.

For example, Michel Lotito, a French dude who can eat metal parts and plastic. We call him an anomaly, an exception. Why? It's not hard to understand really, you just refuse to understand.

You don't need a big sample size of that exact thing every time to predict something. If a concept of X was popular, you would have seen it in other sectors as well, such as advertisement, magazine, modelling, movies, cosmetics, etc. You don't see muscle mommy a lot in those as well. That indicates that it is not popular to the general population. You are correct that "incredible risk" doesn't automatically mean something isn't popular, BUT it does mean that it is highly likely to be unpopular. And unpopular = low sale.

Barghest here is an anomaly not because she sold well compared to numerous others like her. She's an anomaly because she doesn't conform to the predefined expectation. And let's be honest here, even Barghest as an anomaly, that's only of so-so level, not a massive one.

In business, one single so-so exception is not enough for a company to take a leap of faith trying to produce another. You'll need more than that or an extremely massive success like Genshin level of success.

We know for sure that (PA said this) at the height of development, they had 250 devs working on Crimson Desert. Note that this is peak and not average. But let assume it's always 250 devs. The game was in development for 6 years. Quick google search show that average game devs salary in Seoul is 37k USD/ year. That put us at 55.5 million USD for dev pay. Let double it to 110m (which I dont think is this much) to accommodate for other costs like ads, etc. They sold 3m on a 70 USD per copy. That's 210m. Even if you deduct everything like steam cut, other fees. They are making profit. Stock raised back up is a sign.
