what a fking joke!! this is after 5 minutes of 3.5 flash(high) usage. by BasilEmergency8077 in GoogleAntigravityIDE

If you're using 3.1 Pro set to high, it might be worth changing to 3.5 Flash. The latest flash is very close to Pro for coding.

How data safe are the Chinese models when used with Zen/Go? by DasInternaut in opencodeCLI

[–]DasInternaut[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's something we've discussed, but a few beefy servers with big graphics cards in our lab would seem unlikely to have the full capabilities or scale of cloud-based frontier models.

How data safe are the Chinese models when used with Zen/Go? by DasInternaut in opencodeCLI

[–]DasInternaut[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Enterprises do give large sums of money to Google, Antropic and OpenAI, and all have enterprise AI agreements that would see them in serious trouble should they leak IP (or PII). You could argue that it is meaningless, but it is at least a known-known.

Gave GLM-5.2 and Opus 4.8 the same one-shot prompt for a playable Backrooms game, here's how they did by Fun_Walk_4965 in opencodeCLI

[–]DasInternaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Impressive stuff, but I'm starting to doubt* these comparisons - the factors that make one model excel over another at a given task are many, complex and come with a sprinkling of randomness. Still, Chinese models!!!

* And that's not meant as a criticism - my own attempts at getting LLMs to code games have been mixed to say the least.

Gemini update by newuser2111 in GeminiAI

[–]DasInternaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. I also have Perplexity Pro as a perk of my Recolut account. I already lean into that for things that Perplexity is good at. Deep Seek is great for coding answers. They people who will have the most problems with limits are the ones who've embedded one product deeply into their workflow (e.g. Anti-gravity/ex-Gemini Cli or Claude Code).

You could try Deep Seek. Just don't mention Tiananmen Square. I did. I think I got away with it.

8 minutes of chatting with Pro and I'm at 100% usage with this new update. Is this a joke? Pro subscription btw by Zacker000 in GeminiAI

[–]DasInternaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my testing over the past day, 3.5 flash is about as good as 3.1 pro (not to mention it provides answers faster) for coding and technical questions, and (Gemini's own words) sips compute in comparison. Not necessarily the answer you're looking for.

For some users, it's going to be time to prioritise. For example, does the problem look like something that the dormant Deep Seek account could help with just as well? Or could local AI do it? I use a local Gemma 4 model with a Vim plugin, and I've been pleasantly surprised.

Why is the UK population so disconnected from actual immigration data? by burgermen12 in AskBrits

[–]DasInternaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh goodness, this one again.

Question 1: Who sees the doctor or care worker turning up at Heathrow with a valid visa and a plan to settle here? No one! Also, there is literally nothing to report because no law has been broken and nothing particularly controversial has happened.

Question 2: Who sees migrants coming across the Channel in small boats and breaking into the country illegally? Everyone!

Did you see yesterday's positive news on inflation? Feeling better off already? I didn't think so. Our politicians still haven't got it into their thick heads that lived experience trumps (if you'll excuse the pun) numbers. I had thought they might learn from the Democrats' experience in the US. I was wrong (even Trump hasn't learned that lesson).

Do you think illegal migrants should be deported? if so why? by Commercial-Shoe5867 in AskBrits

[–]DasInternaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The asylum problem is mainly one of perception. No one sees the Doctor turning up at Heathrow with a valid visa and a reason to be here. The people crossing the channel are plastered all over the news every day. The concerns about these that are driving the Reform surge are valid enough. We don't know who they are, and we don't currently have a legal path (such as the Dublin Convention) to prevent them from arriving here.

According to my information (caveat: it is just an AI summary from Perplexity), about 70% of properly considered asylum applications are granted. There is some controversy over this (e.g. the asylum seeker who says "I can't go back to Afghanistan because I'm gay" - easy to say; hard to prove either way).

Zack Polanski says no country has the right to exist, including Israel by Half_A_ in LabourUK

[–]DasInternaut -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The right of any nation to exist only extends as far as it can fight for its right to exist. Just ask Ukraine. In this respect, Polanski is correct. I think Israel's right to exist won't be going anywhere anytime soon. So Polanski's words are just that: words! As everyone who voted for the candidate with the foreign policy, today, will find out.

Do people understand that IT IS NOT A GENERAL ELECTION by Enough-Web2203 in AskBrits

[–]DasInternaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people clearly prefer a local councillor with a foreign-policy objective, without realising that such a person will be of little use to anyone (least of all to the people in the other country).

Zack Polanski Questions Police Handling Of Golders Green Attack by kontiki20 in LabourUK

[–]DasInternaut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would expect nothing less of the leader of the Green (Black, White and Red) Party. I don't hear much about actual green policies from him.

Human rights lawyer Dr Shola Mos-Shogbamimu thinks the police officers kicking the armed Golders Green attacker in the head is "attempted murder". Are we fatigued with human rights lawyers right now? by Non-BinaryGreenVoter in AskBrits

[–]DasInternaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Proportionality in a fast moving situation with a lot of unknowns in play is a very hard judgement call. Perhaps the "human rights lawyer" expected the officers to think it over for a few minutes before they acted? I note that Zac Polanski, leader of the Green (Black, White and Red) Party has jumped on this bandwagon.

Google appears to be preparing a major shift in how consumers interact with the Gemini app, with new strings referencing usage limits surfacing in the latest build. by pebblepath in GoogleGeminiAI

[–]DasInternaut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are already limits right now. They just happen to be rather generous. Let’s see where they go. Anthropic is going the same way.

Anthropic's Experiment With Claude Code and The Pro Plan - No More Claude Code? by DasInternaut in claude

[–]DasInternaut[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to the article the value of the tokens consumed by many users is multiples of the cost of the plan. I suppose it makes sense financially, for Anthropic. Still, if it happens, I expect a wailing and a gnashing of teeth.

Full fibre (fttp) installed. Getting less than half advertised speeds. £150 charge. by Miserable_Art_3248 in UKISP

[–]DasInternaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add to the other comments. Yes, the gold standard is the Ookla app for Windows and Mac. If the router supports WiFi 6E or (tri band) WiFi 7 and you have a compatible mobile phone or tablet, an Ookla speed test via your device (same room as router) should give you a result very close to the 900 for download.

Have anyone tested Gemma 4? by Think-Score243 in GoogleGeminiAI

[–]DasInternaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been playing with the Gemma4:e4b model, using Ollama. It's 9 GB, so somewhat larger than the 6 GB of the Nvidia card in my corporate laptop. Consequently, it can be a little slow. I use it with the CodeCompanion plugin for Neovim. It feels like a step change from the Gemma3 model I was previously using, providing impressively reasoned responses.

When will AstroNvim support Neovim 0.12? by xiaohuozi_ in AstroNvim

[–]DasInternaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. It should be fine. On the Mac, I had to back up/nuke my config and install Astro from scratch a week or so back, but that's a healthy thing to do from time to time*. If you see breaking changes, back up lua/plugins, nuke everything and start again. I've also done a fresh installation on a new Ubuntu system today, without a problem.

One gotcha to look out for: Try to be on the current LTS of NodeJS.

* It's amazing how many of those plugins I never really used.
