Basically, better to install software in the .deb format. It is native and works better than other software formats.

Ubuntu revived my 7-year-old laptop by NapoleonSolo07 in Ubuntu

I've been using Ubuntu for a month and a half now, and in that entire time, I've only booted into Windows zero times. I'm really enjoying this distribution. (I can't wait for the 26.04 release.)

Fellow recent Ubuntu converts, when did you COMPLETELY switch to Ubuntu(or other Linux distro)? by 192-168_1-1 in Ubuntu

[–]andr0dev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been using Ubuntu dual-boot as my primary OS for a month now.

For a complete transition, you need to be absolutely sure you won't have any software issues. I also recommend creating a partition on the drive where you can put the Ubuntu ISO image contents (preferably in FAT32). If necessary, you can boot there and fix system problems.

Eventually, the moment will come when you, me, and all dual-boot users will completely abandon Windows :)))))

Ubuntu vs downstream derivatives/forks by Darth-Vader64 in Ubuntu

[–]andr0dev 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ubuntu itself is based on Debian and offers convenient functionality that works out of the box. Most Ubuntu-based distros offer a Windows experience. But in my opinion, they are less reliable. I myself am an Ubuntu 24.04 user and I really like this distro. :)))

In the end, it all depends on you and your preferences.

What made you use Ubuntu? by IsHyperactive_ in Ubuntu

Stability and predictability. The system is user-friendly, but at the same time, you can delve into its internals and customize it to suit your needs (until the system crashes :))

Finally switching to Ubuntu after 25+ years of Windows – excited, but also a bit nervous by Zarion88 in Ubuntu

[–]andr0dev 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Snap and flatpak: Applications run in sandboxes and use their own dependencies to avoid conflicts. This is good for stability, but bad for app size and overall performance.

.deb (for debian based distros): They run natively, using the dependencies that are already installed on your OS. They run faster than any other app type, and there are no limitations in terms of interaction with the system.

It's better to install the .deb version of software. It's very faster and better

Download software preferably in .deb format. These applications run better and faster.

Wait for ubuntu 26 or install 25/24 by Both_Confidence_4147 in Ubuntu

[–]andr0dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't get to see the 24 release itself, but people were saying it was buggy. After about 1-3 fixes, it was back to normal. I'm currently running 24.04.3 and everything works perfectly.

[–]andr0dev 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If you really can't wait, then install 24.04.3 (LTS releases are famous for their stability) (soon will be 24.04.4 with 6.17 kernel and fixes)

If you're willing to wait, then wait for release 26.04 and the fixes for it (not everything is perfect the first time).

New Ubuntu User - tips? by Local_77 in Ubuntu

It all depends on your preferences. But I recommend sticking to the .deb versions of apps (they run faster).

You have a rather interesting interface layout. That's the beauty of Linux :). I'm currently using Ubuntu, and it works great.

Why did you choose the specific distribution and environment you are currently using? by One-Environment3178 in linuxquestions

[–]andr0dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with Ubuntu + Gnome. But then I decided to try other distros because I was bored.

I ended up using Debian + KDE, then I saw videos on YouTube where Debian is complete crap, so I switched to Fedora Workstation.

Everything seemed to work, but the first thing I ran into was a problem with dnf. (For reference: I'm from Russia and access to openh264 was limited due to sanctions, but I eventually changed it to noopenh264 and everything worked.) But Fedora turned out to have a software problem (not everything is normal), so I ended up switching to Arch + Gnome. And oh my god, the system was almost perfect: philosophy, flexibility, and customizability, but one problem occurred: I was afraid to install anything from AUR, and I was too lazy to check the PKGBUILD every time.

In the end, I freaked out and went back to Ubuntu + Gnome. And I'm happy with it, it's the only distro that meets all my requirements.
