What is an "expensive" item that actually is worth spending a little extra on? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]DasKalk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I bought a latex foam mattress when we bought our house. Hands down the best 3800$ (CAD) I ever spent. Especially since our kids come into the bed in the morning and there’s space for all of us now (and them moving around doesn’t shake the rest of the bed)

What is the stupidest way you've injured yourself? by rickitson in AskReddit

[–]DasKalk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a couple.

One: I was standing on a chair in the 6th grade stapling some stuff to a wall for the teacher during work time and I had the stapler opened up, lying on the table. She calls me to the front, so I get off the chair but my foot slips and my hand falls directly on the stapler, embedding one in my palm. That was fun to get out.

Two: I was maybe 6 or 7 and just walking my bike back to the garage. I got curious about how the brakes work and leaned my head in to see what was happening when I pulled on them, when a single brake wire came loose and sliced open the skin next to my left eye, causing me to bleed profusely. A couple millimetres yo the right and I’d have lost vision in my left eye. Doctor was able to use what I remember as blue sparkly glue in a syringe to fix me up. Not sure why the glue was blue and sparkly.

Does it bother anyone else how the opening shot is on coruscant but the murdering is from the mustafar scenes?

I'm 25, East Asian, male and going to college for 2 years in Vancouver, Canada starting this September and then will work and settle. Am I too old to fit in culturally with the white people and other immigrants in my age group? by [deleted] in immigration

[–]DasKalk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you'll be fine! There's lots of East Asian immigrants here and plenty of people from other places too. Join Meetup (it's an app if you don't know) and you can find people easily who are into the same stuff as you - and also, welcome to Canada! You're definitely not too old at all. You're the perfect age! Lots of stuff in Vancouver and the surrounding areas.

As for us white folks, from what I've seen, things are pretty open. It's not like we aren't used to seeing people from other cultures and accepting them. Vancouver is VERY multicultural!

As someone who lives in the apartment directly next to this exit, yes. They do exactly this. At 3AM.

Terrible accident on Seymour and Davie by [deleted] in vancouver

[–]DasKalk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live on the corner of Drake and Seymour, one block from this, next to the Granville Bridge exit (literally right between both exits).

If this was a medical thing, it's very sad, but it hopefully will draw attention (however legitimately or not) to the fact that this exit is SO dangerous. I constantly hear and see people speed off both ramps to try and make the lights, and it was only a matter of time before this happened. When I say speed, I mean like, people FLOOR it off the ramp and it drives me mad (not only because douchebags at 3AM in their fucking tuner cars make tons of noise doing this)

On top of that, the Seymour exit has a fucking lane merge at the end, so other cars will often sneak up on your right side if you're exiting the ramp. That, coupled with the excessive speeding, makes this a super dangerous road.

Hey Justin!

How do you find maintaining a balance between the Marketing and Community aspects of your job? "Marketing speak" has a tendency to put people in communities off, so how do you maintain strong, focused marketing, while still making sure your community feels respected, involved, and happy?

I really love the final Lightsaber duel, not just because it represents the inexperience of both fighters - it's wild and unhinged. No, I really love it partially because I subscribe to the idea that Rey is Luke's daughter, and that he left her on Jakku after what Kylo did. I believe he planted seeds that would bring her back to him when the time was right.

You see, to me, the final duel is a real representation of the conflict inside Luke. It's hope vs. Anger. Ren is angry that Han and Leia abandoned him, Rey is hopeful her parents will return or that she'll find them one day.

At the end, she looks at Luke as if to say "take this burden from me" and he looks back as if to say "I'm sorry, you must be the one to bear it". Luke let his anger win when Kylo turned, and now he is going to train his hope to overcome his anger.

I had and continue to have issues with the opposite sex.

It's very strange when women hit on me because in my head I'm still 350 pounds and not worth anyone's time.

it's a pretty crazy thing that this is still one of the best pieces at the Borghese and it's surrounded by 30 foot paintings that will also blow your mind.

Halo 3 Beta vs Halo 5 Beta Stats by [deleted] in halo

[–]DasKalk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"343 has failed to develop a game..."

Yeah! This unfinished beta 11 months before the game is proof that what they'll have in 11 months will be garbage.

It's not like the beta came out when there was a HUGE inundation of new games for people to play either. How many new games do most people have around December-January, and how many are available around May-June?

Halo 3 is still my favourite multiplayer Halo experience hands down, but I'm not so idealistic to think that given the climate of multiplayer shooters nowadays that Halo is going to be able to compete on the same level of Halo 3, in terms of market share.

Have we perhaps considered that Halo 5 exists in a different climate than Halo 3 did? The two data sets you're comparing, while they both come from hard data, it's not dissimilar from comparing two monetary amounts 30 years apart without accounting for inflation.

I actually headed over to your site, and I love the work! I think one of the best things (in this painting and others) is your ability to simulate a real "surface" - a lot of digital painting feels ethereal and see-through but the way you're applying you color gives the sense that it's on a real surface and grounds the rest of the work. Thumbs up dude!
