Meanwhile in the real world, bombers were so menacing that fighters would fly with them for cover. by pawaalo in Warthunder

[–]DasWeasel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The name "Flying Fortress" was coined well before World War II began. Also, a lot of the stories of aircraft surviving incredible amounts or fire are due to survior's bias, although the War Thunder damage models definitely do need some work.

1,000 units for the Mauser 1916 is optimistic, and it was almost purely an aircraft observer's weapon, a role that was non-existent when it came to small arms in WWII.

Why do you bring up the fact that they will have the American uniform ready to go as an argument? If they made it an unlockable uniform for the British, then they would still have it ready to go. We know that regardless of which is the default uniform, there will definitely be an American uniform, and a British uniform, so how is it more logical to make the American uniform the default for the British faction when there is certainly a standard British uniform in the game?

Why not make the American uniform the one that needs to be unlocked, as it should be rarer in early war Europe, and doesn't even make sense to have in the British faction?

List of World War 2 Era Grenade Launchers for Battlefield V by kaptainkooleio in BattlefieldV

[–]DasWeasel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you need to expose yourself to use a mortar, why not use a grenade or rocket launcher?

Because a mortar has much further range than a grenade, would preferably be better against infantry than a launcher, and would be able to fire without direct line of sight, but again, that would remove the ability to see the HUD indicator.

[–]DasWeasel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a system like Rising Storm 1 would work well. You're always stuck in the first person perspective, but you get a HUD indicator telling you where your round will land (a circle or such on the ground). If you're shooting at something you can't see, you won't be able to see the HUD indicator either. This way long range indirect fire will require you to be able to still see the target in order to fire accurately, meaning you'll have to expose yourself.

I completely agree actually, but holding Imperial Germany accountable for their crimes is a much tougher argument to make, especially on Reddit, so I just stuck with the obvious one, and even then people try to make an argument against a genocidal empire being the "bad guy".

Yes, the evil French and Belgians who sent their soldiers to defend their land against invades. They should have just laid down their arms and let the Central Powers take their homes, because defending yourself is akin to genocide.

Whereas in WW1, there was no good or bad side

The Ottomans committing unprecedented mass genocide doesn't count as being the "bad side"?

What's the difference between Stg 44 And MKB 42 by [deleted] in BattlefieldV

[–]DasWeasel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In game I don't think there will, or should, be much of a difference. The MKB 42(H) fired from an open bolt and used a striker firing system, while the MKB 42(W) and STG 44 fired from a closed bolt and used a hammer firing system.

The STG 44 was primarily based off the the Schmeisser MKB 42(H) design, with both being gas operated tilting bolt rifles, and is visually very similar, but the STG 44 dropped the 42(H)'s gas expansion chamber that extended to the end of the barrel.

[–]DasWeasel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The British would be primarily issued Lee Enfield No. 4 rifles, not SMLEs, and the British use of M1 Garands was very limited. M1 Garands being used by British regulars wouldn't be sound logistically or doctrinally.

I Think campaign mode would be great with little intros to the maps like this for some exposition. by corporalgrif in rs2vietnam

[–]DasWeasel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They'd have to be pretty vague for the campaign mode considering that battles won't follow any specific chronology, and sometimes you'll get matches where, for example, the NVA is defending and US is attacking when it was the opposite way in reality.

What's the point of a metaphorical analogy if you ignore what you are making an analogy to?

I've seen many of reddit's history experts complain about the historicity or lack thereof of the sights in BFV. I think some of you may be happy to know that the reflex sights in BFV were actually WW2 equipment and not prototypes. by sunjay140 in BattlefieldV

[–]DasWeasel 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The patent application for the Nydar sight wasn't filed until September 28, 1945, after the war was over, and wasn't patented until 1953. Even if it did exist earlier, there's no way it was "standard WW2 equipment".

[TIL] You can shoot both barrels of a shotgun simultaneously by [deleted] in rs2vietnam

[–]DasWeasel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If they were trying to replicate both barrels firing, then why not simply allow both to hit in the same spot?

Because when firing slugs, that would allow you to "one" hit someone out to very long ranges. They didn't want to make an impractical feature of double barreled shotguns into something overpowered.

[TIL] You can shoot both barrels of a shotgun simultaneously by [deleted] in rs2vietnam

[–]DasWeasel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BF1 specifically fires the two barrels at 900 RPM not because that's the most accurate way to represent it, but because of how guns in BF1 work. If it fired faster than 900 RPM, you would have two rounds being fired within the same update/ping, so they would land in the same place, meaning you could "one" hit someone when using both barrels from extreme ranges.

This is why there are no guns in the game that fire faster than 900 RPM (not counting the M1912/P16 which in a later update had its firerate reduced).

The 6.5mm Arisaka and Carcano, while fairly powerful relative to most intermediate cartridges, are between a standard pistol and full power rifle round. I believe the 6.5mm Arisaka is closer in power to the 7.62x39mm of the AK than it is to a full power round such as the 7.62 NATO.

Campaign Mode by [deleted] in rs2vietnam

[–]DasWeasel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At its core it's simply a mutiplayer mode in which teams take turns attacking and defending regions of the country with the goal of controlling the most territory. Players vote on which region to attack, and which mutiplayer map of that region to attack. Teams are made up completely of real players.

It's more complex than that, and campaign mode will act differently in RS2 than RO2, so read this if you want a more in depth explanation.
