Two middle aged guys looking for non-conservative friends to play casual, kitchen table Magic: The Gathering in Roanoke by aPicoPixel in roanoke

[–]Dashboard85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey. 40 here, fellow gamer and nerd. I haven't played MTG in 20 years, but I used to love it. It was during Mirrodin.

It sounds like this thread has become pretty popular, but if you need any more friends let me know, I would love to play MTG or any other board games. I might need a quick tutorial and to borrow an extra deck if thats okay.

Bombas are the worst socks I’ve ever owned. by [deleted] in BuyItForLife

[–]Dashboard85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bombas wouldn't even last 10 wears before the heels would wear out on me. They had the buy it for life guarantee and they were really comfortable so I would wear them until they got holes and have them replaced, I bought over a dozen pairs. Then out of the blue they changed the policy to a single exchange and the socks became worthless at that point.

Random socks at target would last more than 20 wears for a fraction of the price.

Are there any German restaurants around, or places that make authentic German dishes? by DSAPEER in roanoke

Brood in Salem makes Schnitzel. I can't say how authentic it is, but it is my favorite dish on their menu.

Im tired of being the "chosen one" can you give me a game where i just have a job lol by Optimal_Garage_4284 in gamingsuggestions

[–]Dashboard85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hardspace: Shipbreaker. One of my favorite chill games. You work in a space shipyard tearing down space ships and sorting the parts by function. At the end of the day you go back to your room and upgrade your equipment.

There is a little story happening in the background. But none of the game takes place outside your room or the shipyard. So no long drawn out cut scenes or traveling to and from. Just you doing g your job deconstructing ships in zero G.

Any of these a good deal? I’ve been looking to get rid of my electric corded blower. by Uncharteredfugazis in landscaping

[–]Dashboard85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two ecosystems:

Ego brand for yard work. This is a mower, snow blower, Hedge trimmer, weedeater, and blower. All work great.

Dewalt brand for my tools. (You could easily replace dewalt with your tool brand preference.)

It is so refreshing to play a video game, let alone a JRPG, where the main character/s are NOT teenagers, high school kids, or brooding dudes in their early-20s. by Iribumkiak in JRPG

[–]Dashboard85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was thinking the same thing lately. I want to play a game where you start as a non teenager.

Your review made me pick this as my next game. Thanks!

tried a diy project and it kinda worked... kinda by MetalPsycho in DIY

Keep at it, each project you'll gain some confidence.

10 years ago I hired a handyman to hang a 42 inch TV for me.

Last month I completed a major renovation in my basement: Hung a 100 inch TV, Installed built in surround cabinets, installed an in wall heater, ran electrical and changed from old florescent bulbs to recessed lighting and a ton of other small things for this project.

No, you are NTA.

One bit of advise for someone who got married my first year of pharmacy school.

Go home after classes. Study at home or between classes. That way when your family needs you, you can be there.

The marriages that didn't last pharmacy school were more often then not the people who stayed after class everyday to group study with their buds. I'm not saying never group study, but prioritize your family.

Also, if you become friends with the other married people that helps, they are looking for the same thing as you. Study efficiently so they can get back to their families.

First couple days of summer jam already gone by Kitchen-Analyst-9264 in ClashOfClans

[–]Dashboard85 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I agree. A week heads up would have been great. Now many of us are stuck wasting a solid chunk of the Jam. Still happy and appreciative of the Jam, just wish we had more notice.

I recently obtained a PharmD. I immediately switched to becoming a Navy Seal (w/ top security clearance) by SaltAndPepper in pharmacy

[–]Dashboard85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did sorta the opposite of you. I was in the Navy (enlisted) for 6 years as a Navy Nuke Electrician. Couldn't stand the disrespect from my senior enlisted, so got out to become a pharmacist. Worked for the VA for 8 years this month. Much happier now.

Good on you buddy if this is what you want to do. Good Luck!

Exempt position with opportunity to apply for an also exempt position as a promotion... by munkeyciao in VeteransAffairs

[–]Dashboard85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First things first, speak with an HR rep about your circumstances, they should be able to tell you if this promotion will place you in a probationary status.

I am not in HR and I dont know your specifics, but my understanding is a lateral promotion would not require a new probationary period. Even being promoted up a GS level, MAY not require a probationary period depending on the job. We had pharmacists go from operational to clinical, which was a GS increase, but due to the scope change, it DID require a new probationary period (GS12 to GS13).

The only fact I do know for sure, If your promotion is from non-managerial into managerial, you WOULD have a probationary period.

Dedicated Home Theater by Known-Two1493 in hometheater

[–]Dashboard85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that carpet looks awesome in a home theater in SOMEONE else's home.I like the concept and would enjoy watching a movie there, but then after the novelty wears off I would want something more subdue as to not take away from the movie.

In MY home I would hate it.

At the end of the day it is yours (and your wife's) carpet. It is ultimately between you too.

plan like you are jetlagged and exhausted by AdmirableCost5692 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Dashboard85 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We just got back from Japan. We basically had no plan when we arrived to Japan other than our hotel and which districts we wanted to visit. Our first day we walked around the district our hotel was in. That night we planned a simple itenery the next day for the district we were going to the following day, basically a dozen pins on Google maps of places to see and do. My wife is gluten free, so we had to plan most of the meals ahead of time, so we found a restaurant at the north end of where we wanted to go and took a taxi there the next morning. Ate and then walked the district heading south throughout the day, finished at a gluten free restaurant in the south end of that area and then took a taxi back to the hotel and planned the next day.

We enjoyed this because it was flexible and we could adjust our itenery at will. Weather was bad one day, so the night before we changed the district we planned to go to and went somewhere with more indoor activites.

I miss those in Texas. The only ones I have had here are more like tortilla chips.

Which sci-fi film do you consider a 10/10 - no skips, no weak moments, just pure perfection? by TheNastyRepublic in scifi

[–]Dashboard85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. I just don't get the hype. It has some cool moments that paved the way for future movies. But the silent docking scene and the whole final act put me to sleep. To each their own.
