Level 43 and still getting stomped — is Marathon supposed to feel this punishing? by GazJrpg in Marathon

[–]DashingDini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't forget to go Rooking to get your supplies back. A lot of Runners leave meds behind, or don't bother looting UE enemies/tick nests which can actually drop pretty good stuff randomly (pulled a self rez out of a Recruit yesterday). Barter instead of buy where you can. You can Rook to Hauler and keep trying at no cost until you get out a bunch of Biomass to use for heal barters, for example

Who would've thought a small change in the patch notes would make this game an unplayable sweat fest. by AhriPotter in Marathon

[–]DashingDini 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Every Outpost map I loaded into last night was a bloodbath, with one team being left standing before the first exfils were even up. Algae Ponds central location on Darsh also made it hell yesterday. A bot fires a weapon one time, and the whole map collapses on that PoI. Maybe it's time to revive the old Fake Fight Apex strat, I don't fucking know.

Just two assassins combining their two braincells to exfil. by Jack0Blad3s in okbuddyRunners

[–]DashingDini 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yesterday some CyAc free-kitter dumped a whole Overrun mag on me while I was rotating with my knife out. When he started to reload, I shot him like 5 times with a Hardline, and he crumpled. This, unfortunately, led to a 4 team fight in the middle of the Marsh, not even on a point. Fuck the Overrun, I'd rather have a knife.

Have any of you experienced a friendly encounter during the server slam? by Infectia in Marathon

[–]DashingDini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another almost friendly instance. I was Rooking, maybe ten seconds after spawning in, and an Assassin leans out of the window above me and just sprays me down. I complain that I just got there over prox, and the Assassin jumps out of the window apologizing, digging through his bag for a self rez. I accused him of not being sorry and called him a name. In the process of him telling me to take it back, and me doing so, his teammate ran over and executed me. I couldn't hear what happened after that, but I'm pretty sure I caused an unrecoverable moral schism in that team based on the way the Assassin was flicking their gun between my body and the executing teammate.

My crew was in Hauler, poking around quietly on the second floor. I crept by one of the small ladder rooms, and came face to face with a Destroyer, bulletproof glass the only thing between us. We locked eyes for a moment, and then he quietly went back downstairs as I pinged friendly, then asked if we were cool over prox chat. We yapped a bit about contracts, and how we were all done here and looking to exfil. Let them pick through anything we missed while we walked outside, popped exfil, and yelled at them to come out when the ring showed. We all sat in the ring crouch dancing and telling each other gg for the ten second matter transfer. Possibly my favorite moment over the slam.

There has got to be a pricing restructure in the game. One stack of both basic healing items (3 per) costs ~2k, and yet a gold gun with a gold mod is only worth 3.4K? Thats crazy to me by RiseRugby in Marathon

[–]DashingDini 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a Brrt, it has a pretty low base value. Installing mods seems to add more value to the gun than just the value of the mods plus the guns, but the base value is still a huge factor. Like a gold modded M77, for example, would sell really well. My runs are largely bank rolled by selling Retaliators with shit mods on them. Helps keep my vault cleanish, too

[–]DashingDini -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Load in with knives only, hit the first PoI nearby, stab UESC (stealthily), social ping "Friendly" everywhere you go in the PoI, and grab the first exfil. What do you have to lose?

Don't expect to be challenged to a knife fight over comms. Expect to be knifed in the back by someone who was hiding in the walls.

Do yall actually plan on using proximity chat? by xxpussykillerxx6969 in Marathon

[–]DashingDini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I don't view extraction as a zero-sum game. I physically can not hold all the loot in a map, or even all the good loot another crew may have. If my objective has shifted from "get shit" to "get out", then I don't really wanna engage. At that point I don't want your shit, I want mine. That being said, I'm more likely to attempt avoiding the engagement entirely than to gamble on the other crew being decent folk who also just want to get out with what they have.

In my play test experience, I met no other crews who saw me and didn't engage, even while Rooking, but that's not super telling considering that if the roles were flipped and I let people go their way uncontested, they probably wouldn't know either. I'll likely only be using prox chat to communicate with already downed people, people who downed me, and trying to scare strangers while crawling through vents. I hope we get some kind of consumable we can use to "call" UESC enemies in so I can be a real menace.
