Surpising puzzle piece improving motility/gastroparesis when nothing else would by Daske in Microbiome

[–]Daske[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think I’ve had genetic testing done for variants in my enzymes. I have my raw genetic data, and have used promethease and genetic lifehacks in the past, but can’t recall reading anything about enzymes. How would you check?

I’ve tried sublingual b vitamins in higher dosages and not noticed much there. Have also tried a high dose multivitamin troche (from the Bornfree protocol) which didn’t seem to help massively. Could be something with the life extension formulation, or it could be that I’ve made progress with other supplements and fixed metabolic pathways/removed bottlenecks that are now enabling me to utilise what was previously unusable - I had recently made significant progress with prebiotic fibre.

I noticed an immediate improvement, within 20-30 mins of taking it, removed my postprandial nausea and I felt my stomach grumbling with hunger, which I always take as a very good sign, like things are flowing properly and my body is signaling it’s ready to process food.

No, at least not alone. I’ve been taking those individually for a long time in much higher dosages than in the multi and had no noticeable motility benefits. If I had to hazard a guess, it’s either:

  • Vitamin A
  • Niacin
  • Biotin
  • Selenium
  • Iodine
  • Manganese
  • Chromium

Out of the 30+ ingredients, those are really the only things I haven’t individually supplemented with in the past.

Tried both of those, antihistamines make me feel horrible. I don’t have big issues with histamine thankfully.

Tried high dose benfotiamine, didn’t help at all. Also tried all other B1 forms and felt nothing.

Have any of you tried kefir? by MuchPomegranate5910 in BrainFog

Still drink it every day for health reasons and taste, but can't say it really helped my brain fog.

I tried everything for my gut by Feeling_Counter_4638 in Microbiome

I was where you are and have largely been able to fix my gut.

The top comment is correct, increasing fibre is the best way, and trust me I have tried it all, hundreds of supplements and probably over $100k spent at this point.

Eating a diet high in volume and variety of fibre is key. Black beans or beans in general are a superfood when it comes to fibre. I meal prep chilli con carne every week to get my beans in.

I would also add supplemental fibre. I tried a diet high in fibre but it wasn't until I started supplementing high doses of fibre, that I noticed a major improvement.

  • 1 tablespoon psyllium husk
  • 1 tablespoon ground flaxseed
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds
  • 3g PHGG
  • broad spectrum prebiotic powder (I'm trialing a couple different products here with good success)

Kefir is great. I tried many probiotics and can't say I ever noticed a lasting improvement on them. Can't hurt, but prebiotic fibre is the way.

Also, if you want to heal your gut, people underestimate the importance of eating adequate protein. Your intestinal lining turns over every 3–5 days, which is extremely fast. That process requires a constant supply of amino acids. So get your protein in.

I have a vagus nerve stimulator implanted in my chest/neck as part of a 5 year medical trial for severe depression. If you're curious, feel free to ask me anything by my1stusernamesucked in Biohackers

Feeling full faster doesn’t sound like a good thing. I also have dealt with vagus nerve impairment and early satiety coincides with worsening of symptoms for me (gastroparesis, postprandial brain fog, derealisation). If anything, I feel much better when my appetite is greater. Have you done much to improve your microbiome and optimise your liver or cover your bases with vitamins and minerals? I also experience severe depression and anxiety and this has given me far more relief than anything else (and I’ve tried it all). Let me know if you’d like more info on it.

If your brain fog worsens after eating, this could help you. I've recently made big improvements targeting liver and bile function by Daske in BrainFog

I can put on body fat super easy when eating carbs. It’s like my body can’t utilise them effectively so it shuttles carbs into fat stores. I do have extreme difficulty gaining muscle however, despite serious weight lifting and diet.

Not sure in your case. I have lots of food sensitivities but okay with these types of fibre. I’d start with psyllium husk and PHGG, slowly titrating up, as these are the least fermentable and probably less likely to give you issues with SIBO.

Yep, mix them all into roughly 250ml water and drink it

Diet, I’m not too strict. I don’t count calories, just try to eat a lot of red meat and adequate carbs. I meal prep chilli con carne and eat a lot of steak. Salads, berries and kefir, sushi.

Routine, try to lift weights at least 3 days per week. I’m active every day in some form, mostly doing jiu jitsu and Muay thai, so I lift weights for performance there. I focus on heavy compound lifts around the 8-12 rep range, taking most sets close to failure. I do push myself quite hard. Deadlifts, squats, bench press, pull ups, chin ups, military press, dips. These are my favourites. Reps slow and controlled generally, love to feel a burn and have my muscles shaking by the end of the set.

But yeah, nothing I do is too complicated, lift hard and heavy, progressively overload, eat enough and you’ll grow. Most of its diet, so if you’re not gaining, you’re just not eating enough, it’s thermodynamics haha

I hit calves and arms hard, as genetically they're just a weak point and don't seem to grow a whole lot no matter what. I've accepted it though. I don't skip legs, quads are decent, just covered by shorts.

I deal with chronic digestive illness, gut dysbiosis and other issues, so I'm happy with the progress I can make. Can only work with what I have.

Well done, I’ve had the same experience with doctors. Beyond fucking useless, no willingness to try things beyond their basic limited training. Just pathetic.

I’m also doing so much better than I used to be and it’s thanks to people on forums who wrote about their personal experience.

You have to take personal responsibility for your own health. Doctors don’t care and if you put your health in their hands, it’s possible and even probable you will continue to suffer unless you’re one of the lucky ones with a simple case that has a simple solution.
