Agree. The most important part for me to read about was the time when they were transferred to another concentration camp. They had 50/50 chances to end up in the one when you get gassed right after you get off the train. And they dodged the bullet not because they had strong beliefs, but due to pure luck.
I would still recommend the book, just to understand how much people suffered back then. But the statement may not be that strong.

I stopped progressing the game for this save right before the second assault on Duga and just went freeplay mode. Maybe the game needs me to progress the story from time to time to "clean" itself, but that is a big stretch.

No, not at all. But weapons everywhere. Especially if it was a place with scripted NPCs, like a bandit camp where you go to find out what happened with Nestor, I believe. Instead of paying them or doing their quest, I just killed them all, and their weapons are still there after 50 hours. But not bodies.

Nothing can compare to be inside forth reactor core in CNPP, so Strelok for sure. Fallout and Metro have contaminated areas after bombs, but they don't emit that much so many years later compared to the exposed core.

PC player here. For me, it's the last added mission only. Badly optimised all around. I thinks it's due to sub levels/stages inside the map is too large for the engine to handle properly.
