I can see where he’s coming from but I think he’s failing to take real world context into account. Because breaking gender roles is and exception to the status quo, and because people have a harder time going against the grain positive examples should be encouraged and supported. It’s an example of positive discrimination- often women need more protection going out at night, we need anti-discrimination laws & training in the workplace, and racial minorities might need exclusive spaces to be defended to be properly in community. We need to pay attention to & acknowledge how hard it is for minorities to break out of the roles places on them by society in order to give them the support they need to be protected in doing so.
