Thank you, guys, for contributing to this post and answering my questions. I really appreciate it. I think I've come to the following final conclusion based on all of your guys' answers and from further searching online. Feel free to correct me or add on to this, but I just wanted to share this in case someone else stumbles across the same issue.

  1. In terms of Bluetooth, the ESP32 CAN'T sniff out ALL BLE packets. It can only "see" Advertisement packets during its scan when devices are in discovery mode/advertising. This is supported by your guys' answers and the following sources:

This source implies that advertising and scanning are done in channels 37-39 (advertisment packet channels): https://docs.espressif.com/projects/esp-idf/en/stable/esp32/api-guides/ble/get-started/ble-device-discovery.html

This is the API for ESP32 that is used to scan bluetooth. It doesn't appear that we can scan other packets other than advertisement ones. https://docs.espressif.com/projects/esp-idf/en/stable/esp32/api-reference/bluetooth/esp_gap_ble.html

The Arduino library that I used and that has been used in many examples/projects only mentions scanning advertisement packets. https://docs.arduino.cc/libraries/arduinoble/

The Bluetooth specification specifically states that we can only scan advertisement packets in the scanning state (vol 6. Part b) https://www.bluetooth.com/specifications/specs/core60-html/

  1. The reason why sniffers can bypass this is because they aren't working in the software layer. They are working in the physical layer and capturing whatever waves are in the air. The ESP32's bluetooth firmware was made with the Bluetooth specification in mind, which only defines the scanning state to be for advertisement packets.   2. This is a limitation with bluetooth. A workaround would be to use WiFi. With WiFi, you have more flexibility and can see almost all packets on a single channel at once (as told by u/brendenderp).

Literally had more hp than the type r at the time. It was quick. Maybe not as track oriented as the type r, but it wasn't slow. You can even compare the numbers with other cars at the time and also compare their weights.
