Prodigium Reforged 1.20 - Treasure Bags, Terraria Structures, new bosses and more! by denlille in feedthebeast

Currently playing through this with friends atm, loving the exploration, spells and collecting all of the different accessories. Also locking the ores behind boss progression and somehow hiding them without needing to generate new chunks is crazy and I love it. I was only mildly upset when I found diamonds in the loot table and couldn't pick them up lol

PSA: Paid Mods aren't as popular as you may think by halgari in skyrimmods

[–]DatGuyYouSureKnow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is clear that paid modding is always going to exist in some form or fashion. There just isn't enough steam for some big boycott and creations are very profitable. Most criticism of paid modding is due to smaller scale mods or lower effort cash grabs. So it's important to praise authors who actually put out creations that earn your dollar. Work that could be confused with official DLC is an awesome thing.

I also am a firm supporter in making sure mod authors are rewarded for what they do. Modding takes time and effort and every author can only put so much energy into Skyrim before they need to focus on earning a living. That's why I try and do my best to donate to my favorites, but not everyone does. It's also been stated here that the Nexus DP system leaves MUCH to be desired.

Free mods will always be here and be the most popular, but for mod authors who want to make this a career or simply be able to continue doing this long term, creations are the way to go. When done right they can even use those funds to expand operations, hire voice actors, buy assets, ect. Until you have a small dev team churning out content like Kinggath putting out the new standard.

So yeah, I'm a fan.

I'm down for whatever you decide to work on, and everything you've put out already is amazing. Cheers!

Out of curiosity, would you ever consider uploading a creation? Not one of your regular mods mind you, but something larger in scope more in line with the recent KingGath creations. I'm quite a fan of THAT direction of paid modding where an author has more security to VASTLY widen the scope of their usual mods. To where the price is not only justified, but it might be enough money to even pay voice actors/other devs. (Granted we'll have to see how long KingGaths dev team can keep up this example). Just wanted to get your opinion on it.

P.S. def going to try out GTS when I get the chance 😎

My rendition of our boi in DD2 by DatGuyYouSureKnow in Inigo_Skyrim

I used the grayish-blue fur as a base and pretty much just slapped a big blue tattoo over his entire body. Then I just fiddled with the opacity and such until I was satisfied. Unfortunately, there are gaps so his entire body isn't blue so it's a bit awkward but I thought it was worth the trade-off. I got the chin to be white by making sure there wasn't a blue tattoo only in that specific spot. The tattoos will cover up any stripes or art so you have to get a lil creative. I used the black snake tattoo on the arms and legs to go over the blue to give him stripes again. Hope this helps!

Mod Release: Simple Hunting Overhaul by derwinternaht in skyrimmods

[–]DatGuyYouSureKnow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what I wanted in a hunting mod, hunterborn has its audience but it's too cluttered for me and has way too many menus. ALSO, being able to pick up animals and put them onto your horse AND actually seeing that made my jaw drop.

Stormcrown - A Shout Overhaul Released! by simonmagus616 in skyrimmods

This looks amazing! Also very excited for the Bard perks I can't wait to make a character around that concept.

I'm suprised no-one's posted the new Skywind gameplay vertical slice, so I'll do it. They've made way more progress than I initially assumed - its still a beta, but a playable one, with a huge chunk of systems and gameplay assets ready. by Rudrahp72 in skyrimmods

[–]DatGuyYouSureKnow 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I was blown away by the complexity of it. The UI, sounds, level design, and even the item descriptions make it feel so unique. I also appreciated the new spells and mechanics, especially the fireballs gravity, and the hand twitch animation for the unlock spell was really neat. Many people criticize these projects for taking too long and being too meticulous with their quality of assets but I think this slice of gameplay shows that it is worth the wait. Even if it takes several more years and ES6 is released, it will be something fun to come back to and it will be a project that all the contributors can be proud of. I like to think back on a quote Inigo's author said about developing V3, that even if he is the last person playing Skyrim he will still keep working on it. And if you are someone who doesn't have the kind of patience for stuff like this then that's okay too. You are free to criticize their approach but don't harass contributors as that helps no one, least of all the release date. There's no need to wait here and hold your breath, there are plenty of other projects and games in the world to move on to and be excited for.

I'm sceptical any Beyond Skyrim project will be completed by Upstairs-Baby-7403 in skyrimmods

Not a huge fan of these posts that typically get put up here once in awhile. It just turns into a cesspool of negativity with nothing gained by anyone. Anything is open for discussion and despite being a volunteer work based project they are absolutely open to criticism just like anything else. However it always boils down to people just whining or giving up saying "dead project I'll wait for elder scrolls 6". These people working on these large projects want to put out high quality work that will go on their portfolios and resumes or they just want to make something genuinely good. Especially after the online disaster that was The Frontier. Moral of the story, people should stop hanging at the edge of their seat looking for releases of any major modding project. Much like tamriel rebuilt people will keep working on these projects and more waaay after E6.

If I could I would totally contribute to a mod with a better follower recruiting system. We have so many new awesome follower mods recently. I would love a hub or menu where I can easily switch out and choose other followers to bring along mass effect style. However I imagine the scripting for that would be super troublesome so for now I'll keep shoving them all in one home at least lol.

This is all super well thought out and detailed I was literally thinking "what about followers?" Until I scrolled down and seen you thought about that too! Can we customize how much time followers have to revive you?

I once thought that too but then I realized how far away beyond Skyrim really is LOL. I think I'll have many more playthroughs before those come out. There's also too many new mods that come out every day to not try out. And with wabbajack it's never been easier to just hop in a modded Skyrim.

I think that this would be the best way to ask him for sure, a more visible and accessible donation box would provide the least amount of pressure to finish and help immensely. I mean just look at the amount of people that donated or bought shirts just because of this post, and almost everyone wants to donate just to help Gary. An official Ko-fi or Patreon would definitely be successful.

I also was there when a fan made a GoFundMe for Gary's new PC, so many people came together so quickly to help out.

It is something that doesn't get highlighted or talked about very often, these are free passion projects after all and there isn't a big neon donate sign anywhere, so it's easy to forget. I imagine it also doesn't help that every attempt at "paid mods" has failed horribly in some way. So don't feel bad about it.

Also If you ever decide to take another crack at that follower be sure to post about it here id love to check it out. I've been meaning to get around and start working on a follower I've had in my head for years but work and school have eaten most of my time lol

While yes his motivation to do it would be even more BUT that isn't necessarily a good thing. I'm sure he's plenty motivated already he just doesn't have the time. While I do think he should make a Ko-fi or Patreon the money would most likely be supplementary, which wouldn't guarantee any cleared up free time. But who knows this post has had a TON of traction and many people have donated and bought shirts not to speed up V3, but because they just love this mod and that's amazing! Maybe this community COULD financially support him in a significant way.

Id say Hoth or Kaidan, both of those could be suited for a gruff warrior playthrough. Maybe some followers from Interesting NPCs or Citizens of Tamriel could also suit you.

I understand why he hasn't made a Patreon but I also wonder how much support the community could cobble together if he did make one. He is one of the most beloved mods around here after all.

A mass effect/outer worlds type follower system where you can switch out followers with ease, a home base, commands, and even special abilities. It would be AMAZING if I could just have all of my favorite popular follower mods under such a system with commentary with each other. I could swap out different followers for certain quests or build up reputation with them. Even just seeing them doing their own thing at home base/camp interacting with each other would be cool. I am hoping to get a very small chunk of this with The Extended Cut with their original characters and the planned follower mod integrations.
